  • Line ups & Delays At Toronto Pearson Airport! Here's What We Experienced At Check In and Departure First time flying in 36 years.
    We wasted a lot of time waiting in line at the baggage tag kiosk that weren't printing out the tags. People would try printing their tags then after 15 min to 30 min would walk away and not say anything. Then the next person in line would try to print their ticket then the same thing. We lined up at two machines that didn't work before finding a third one that was working. The lineup for security was the biggest line of the day. So many people we saw were panicking that they were late and scared they would miss their flight! Luckily our flight wasn't canceled, and we made it out.

    Drove 2 hours to Buffalo to fly to Tampa. Would do it again in a heart beat to avoid the Pearson Gong Show.

    I was flying last week with AA from Terminal 3 at 6 am. I arrived at the airport at 3:30 am. Lines for security check and border check were so long I barely had enough time to board. I ran to boarding at 5:40, and boarding was finishing at 5:45am. Unbelievable stress!! And I didn't have any luggage to check in, just my backpack. 😕

    Im a flight attendant for AC and I can't express enough don't bring your luggage at all. Send your things to your destination by FedEx or another shipping company and take a back pack. At least you'll be able to track your things and it'll probably get there before you do. You'll thank me later!

    We just flew out of Pearson on July 15. We flew domestic (terminal 1) with Air North to Whitehorse then later to Vancouver and returned on West Jet. We did not encounter ANY problems at any of the airports. We arrived a little more than 2 hours before each flight but nothing excessive.

    Yes, alot has changed with airports, check in, and delays. Great that your kids know what to do. One time, we had a gate change and there was no announcement - Lex had to notify the airlines and then they made an announcement on the PA. Sheesh!

    Just got back from Cuba on July 15th with sunwing terminal 3 at Toronto Pearson. We waited a bit to go thru customs going, but on r way back from Cuba it was super quick at 4am going through customs within a couple of minutes, grabbing our luggages quickly and headed back home. I guess everyone’s experiences are all different. But it definitely was worth it to travel after all these years stuck at home! ✈️☀️ glad you made your flight 😊

    I had a similar experience at Pearson a week ago, international flight to Athens, Sun. 7 pm. I observed the bottlenecks and lineups were due to two factors: many non-functioning machines (both check-in/bag tag type and the automated baggage turn-in kiosks) and the tendency of people to join a line with no purpose. A difference between this man’s experience and my own was the presence of multiple AC staff. I was able to ask if I had to join the first long line in my checkin area. The attendant said, no, just go and find a bag tag machine and use it. So, I did. I bypassed it and went into the busy bagtag area: lots of machines not being used, but not all of them were working. The 5th machine worked. Then, I selected a baggage checkin line, trying to avoid the broken machines. Problem was, by the time I got to the front of the line, both machines of a pair had quit working. Went to a new line. Same thing happened. In both lines, I pressed the call button and attendants came. None were able to get the machines working. Finally, an attendant took about 20 of us to the area where people process your bag and put it through. Maybe Thats the best line to get in from the start! I think over-reliance on unreliable technology, which is not easily fixed/reset, is a key factor in the problems at Pearson. The number and location of bagtag machines could be improved. Signage to instruct flow would help. On the other hand, people need to learn that they have to distinguish between a mandatory lineup, like for security check into the Gated area vs. lineups for bagtag kiosks. PS The flight was only 20 minutes late in departure. My husband and his suitcase arrived at his destination. (I assisted him thru process as he’s hearing impaired). We were in the terminal 4 hours before flight time and started the process right away. It took 1 1/2 hours to get his bagtags and get his suitcase onto the conveyor belt. Another 30 minutes to get through security into the Passengers only area. If we’d arrived only 3 hours ahead, I wonder if his suitcase would have made it onto the flight. Must be chaos for the workers trying to sort bags that come off those carriers as they can be for different flights. EG. people behind me in baggage line were on an earlier flight than his to a different location. In the past, baggage was loaded by flight - so much more efficient! Also, wearing a mask or not had nothing to do with the problems at Pearson.

    • @LetsGoOut
      @LetsGoOut  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank You for sharing your experience. I've been hearing it's a hit and miss whether there are line ups. My brother in-law flew and met us a few days later with no problems like us. Yes we had the same problems at the automated kiosk. They must have hired more people now. Unfortunately when we went they had hardly anybody there. LOL yes masks have nothing to do with the problems there!

    I work at Toronto Pearson airport, recently travelled couple days ago. Travelling is a choice and a privilege. Not everyone can do it! Furthermore, if you choose to travel out of YYZ this summer. Set your expectations to absolutely nothing. You will either have a seamless experience or the worst travel nightmare of your life. For example I just returned from Nassau with zero issues had a lovely experience. I was supposed to fly to EWR then MEM this morning and was totally stopped in my tracks bc flight to EWR was cancelled. Didn’t cry about it or make any angry videos… as that was a real possibility. If you’re flying thru Pearson do not take your anger out on airport workers. We are trying to travel and enjoy this summer the same as you. The only difference is we listen to the news about how bad it is. If something goes wrong… sadly you’re not the only one! in fact everyone else is experiencing the same thing! Fair warning for those travellers thru Pearson, or any intl airport for that manner. Bar of expectation really has to be nothing. Hope you had a nice trip.

      I can understand about the long queue but some officers from Pearson Airport made mistakes to travellers. I think Pearson airport need to hire more staff for the sake of travellers and officers. Both sides look exhausted but the upper management just watched them suffering.

      Having a business is a choice and a privilege. If they are not capable, they need to shutdown operations and let someone else takeover that spot. Too little competition is what causes this screwups. They are there to make money. Especially selling those $10 snacks.

    • @brettearhart5742
      @brettearhart5742 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chocopie7890 you’re right us workers are suffering at Pearson. For the most part though, it’s the federal govt. Canada border services agency (CBSA) and Canadian air transportation security authority (CATSA) are both federal and woefully understaffed. I work for an airline at terminal 1 and every day I’m running around from flight to flight. It actually takes about 6 months to get a restricted access identity card (RAIC) which also hinders getting more bodies gateside. Really is a perfect storm. Not to mention greater Toronto airports authority (GTAA) is a federal company which runs the place. Meaning people losing it over checked baggage not coming really only have the federal govt to blame. The airlines are only responsible for loading and unloading the bags but getting from bag drop to apron is on GTAA

    • @brettearhart5742
      @brettearhart5742 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markwatney8641 I don’t disagree they are trying to make a profit. I’ve never seen it this bad in terminal 1 before. I can tell you from an airline worker perspective I try my best to make sure every flight I work leaves on time. Sadly they never leave on time due to crew getting stuck in customs/metering holds, or no ramp crew or bags. There is no perfect solution. The abuse from passengers is intolerable these days. My colleagues have been physically assaulted in these past weeks. Some have even been threatened to be killed. Nobody enjoys the airport right now.

    Toronto Pearson airport put my mom, me, and a bunch of other passengers in a room for 9 hours with no food, water, and we were NOT ALLOWED to use the bathroom. Kids were crying, people were trying not to pee themselves, luggage was missing, flights were missed, and more cuz of this bullshit and the reason we were all there in the first place is cuz the airport staff caused us all to miss our flights!!!! Not to mention the lady that was “helping” kept saying that every possible solution was impossible, not my words, HERS. IMPOSSIBLE. hotel vouchers? Impossible. Food and water? Impossible. Any flight out? Impossible. Bathroom? You’ll get kicked out. They literally locked us out of the bathroom. The lady tried to leave and one guy literally blocked her from leaving. A true hero actually, this big Irish guy was blocking her like someone trying to block someone from throwing a basketball. He genuinely would have tackled her and I do not blame him. It took hours for more employees to arrive to help, which ended up being more employees just telling us the same shit. IT TOOK A JANITOR TO TELL MY MOM THAT IF WE CAN FIND ANOTHER FLIGHT TO OUR DESTINATION THE AIRPORT WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT!!!! They lost our luggage, and because of them when we got to our destination, 2 days late mind you, we had to spend almost all our money on clothes, toiletries, underwear, hairbrushes, shoes, luggage, etc. We arrived with the clothes on our backs literally. Fuck you Air Canada

    You're lucky it was a domestic flight and not US bound, you could easily have spent another two hours waiting in the US preclearance line up after going through security. Torontonians are getting rinsed - paying the highest airport fees in the world and getting the worse airport experience in the world. I thank Mr. Trudeau and the federal Liberals for this mess.

    • @betsyj59
      @betsyj59 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is exactly right. I'm convinced of this too and the agenda states outright that they don't want people flying in their bright, shiny, "utopian" future. After having 3 trips abroad (from the US) canceled on me during the summer of 2020, I finally managed to make it to Istanbul in January 2021. My cousin dropped out due to his covid fears but I went ahead on my own because I wanted to make one last trip and then stop traveling internationally of my own free will. (That was so important to me for some reason.). I had a totally wonderful time despite Turkish lockdowns that went into effect not long before I went - met so many nice people and managed to eat great food indoors, hang out with locals without masks, etc., by frequently stopping by Kurdish rug shops! I realize that by deciding to no longer travel abroad, I'm playing into their agenda but this looks ghastly. Not only standing in all those Kafka-esque lines but after all that, being forced to sit, packed like sardines into economy, with a mask cutting down your free flow of oxygen for the duration. Truly dystopian.

    We all know how chaotic Pearson is. I'm tired of all the horror stories. I'm a retired flight attendant and talking to my colleagues who are still working and apparently the boarding process is a worse nightmare than it was before I retired, and that has ALWAYS been a nightmare. You haven't flown in 36 years?? Your experience is not even close to the way things were 36 years ago or even 5 years ago! Not a goid representation of air travel. You picked the worst time to fly! 😆

    Most things about a good Canada are not true, Including clean cities - beaches, and forests. It's a big lie. The first time I arrived in Vancouver in 2018, I was shocked. As soon as I left the airport door, I saw tissue, disposable glasses, and other garbage left in the city. The further I went, the more I saw them. Before I moved to Canada, I lived in Georgia, Armenia, Turkey, Serbia, The United States, and for a short time in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Netherlands, Germany, and England, but I have never seen the amount of garbage that people leave in different Canadian cities. Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Quebec are no less than Vancouver. Canadian and Canada Governments don't care about this tragedy. I think everything that says about Canada as a clean and powerful culture is not true. You don't need to travel to Canada to see this. Just watch some videos about walking in downtown Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Quebec. You will find the truth. Impossible for you to walk in a Canadian city and you don't see the dark side of that. Everywhere you will see garbage. You will never see this in Europe, Australia, the United States, Japan, and Korea. This amount of waste is not even seen in Malaysian, Indonesian, or Thailand cities. It is impossible for you to use public transport and not see a lot of garbage at stations or on the route. You will be surprised to find a lot of garbage even in the woods - by the rivers and on the beaches in Canada. I wish the Canadians woke up and had no enmity with their country.
    To be fair, I randomly looked at videos from downtown Manchester and Concord in New Hampshire - Philadelphia - Detroit - Chicago - New York - Baltimore - Denver - Nashville, and Knoxville in the United States, and Toronto - Quebec - Montreal - Winnipeg - Calgary - Vancouver - Victoria - Ottawa and Thunder Bay in Canada. we should be fair. The bitter truth must be accepted. Without any exaggeration. Completely impartial. I have to say that I didn't see a single piece of garbage in any of the US videos to convince myself. Without exaggeration, in all Canadian cities, there must have been a piece of garbage on the ground less than every hundred meters. It must have an important reason. I do not know. But this is a bitter truth. You can try. This country should be brought closer to its exaggerated claim. the truth is bitter. Certainly, some Asian countries such as Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and even Malaysia are much cleaner compared to Canada. Of course, we should not forget that Canada claims to be one of the 10 cleanest countries in the world. And Vancouver claims to be one of the 5 cleanest cities in the world. Please go to East Hastings or Victoria Drive or Commercial Drive or West Georgia or Broadway or Main Street and judge for yourself. I am 50 years old and have traveled to 26 countries. Canada is far from its claims. I saw, homeless people, pooping and peeing everywhere and it's so common. nobody cares. I was shocked again. I endured for 3 years but every day going worst. late in 2022, I decided to move to the east because I thought that place has a stronger culture. I chose Montreal. I had heard it is the capital of art and civilization in Canada. it was absolutely wrong. Canada is Canada. I was shocked again, again, and again. the wave of homelessness, graffiti, vandalism, bad smell, terrible infrastructure especially roads in or out of the city, and above all, you can see trash everywhere. plastic bags, tissues, water bottles, and disposable cups. You cannot see any street or park or public place without these. This is impossible. surprisingly nobody cares. neither the people nor the government!!!!!!! please, don't be fooled by the advertisement about a good Canada. please, be careful. most of the things about a good Canada are deception This country is disappointing. Please, Please, Please, don't immigrate to Canada you would regret it absolutely. this is not a developed country, Canada is a developing country with huge serious problems.
