    Well done Andrew for letting Alan use his ramp. Digging an inspection pit in the front garden may well have attracted attention and negative comments from the wife!

      Yes, I am indebted to Andrew and lads for their help. So lucky to have the facility so close by.

    I guess the wire couldn't have gone thru the small hole and back out the larger hole? Well done for keeping the RM going. Respect. Keep meaning to travel up north to get chips - bit of a way from Berkshire but the kind of crazy journeys I make.

    Great to see you back in the Routemaster again Alan. It’s good that you got the use of the facilities to sort out the problem with the gears. I enjoyed this latest video.

    Hello Alan, been a while since you posted a video, I am sure we are all concerned and hope all is well, I live in Wisbech and came through your village a week ago and saw your RM parked at home , hope you are well. Dave.

    Choc blocks with insulation tape aren’t the best under a motor vehicle. It will let moisture in over time and corrode the wires. Some amalgamating tape would help stop the moisture if you want to keep that type of connector. Good that you found the fault and fixed it though.

      @alanandhisbus3416  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, I'm aware that type of connector and insulation isn't ideal but had to fix the problem fairly smartish! I plan to do a better job in a while.

    Hi Alan, great video. STOP USING FIRST GEAR!!

      I am aware of the advise not to use first gear - got in a bit of a habit. Though 1st. is often necessary, particularly for slow starts.

    Fascinating seeing this system. The toothed wheel is similar to modern day ABS braking systems but this is decades before. Probably high tech in those days, the impulses must have been read electro mechanically I presume as it is before the days of electronics as we know them.

    • @alanandhisbus3416
      @alanandhisbus3416  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think this system was added in the 1990's refurbishment program as the original system had a sensor in the actual gearbox. There is an electronic control panel (CAV551) in the cab.

      It felt slow as the traffic built up behind me. I even had a tractor overtake!!

    I loved your remark about how they used aluminum wiring to cut down the weight of the vehicle. You're standing under an 8 ton vehicle, for heavens sake. Anyone who's ever done wiring knows you don't use aluminum when you can find copper.

    • @alanandhisbus3416
      @alanandhisbus3416  ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. Going over the top to save a few kilos - which was short lived, anyway.
