Very nice surprise to stumble upon ERB"s The Chessmen of Mars. I was eleven or twelve years old when I discovered the Barsoom series. I immersed myself in these books and in everything else that Burroughs wrote. More than sixty years have passed since those times and listening now to The Chessmen rattled my brain with the familiarity of the characters, cultures, cities and landscapes of the dying martial world These stories have remained with me through my lifetime.
How old is tara that with her half earthling strength she can be overtaken by an old man with so little a fight her protector heard nothing? Im used to the fail to escape seeming out of nowhere style of writing by now so this didn’t bother me nearly as much as warlord. I really liked how the head guy was used when they were first imprisoned. Had me laughing.
yeah, that was a bit jarring. Didn't care for it. Been listening and reading to these tales lately, and just finished "Chessmen" only to find out that Calvarion doesn't have the next book or anything past Chessmen. Bummed as I got used to listening to him these last few weeks. His readings have been helping me get through a tough time.

💯💯💯💯Same. It’s a good book
There are far, far worst narrations than this. I am grateful and enjoyed this. Thanks for the upload.

Funny how he gives John Carter a southern accent in this reading and not the others
Tara could just jump away, shes half human like Carthoris
