  • It's worst than I thought, but not that bad. One little patch to fix, but it takes me a while and it's bloody freezing out.

You did a great job making up that repair panel, I'm sure the finished product will be perfect. 👍

Well done, never tried welding. Really enjoying your videos, thanks for taking the time to film them

Really enjoyed this one. Hats off to you for starting from sheet metal. Give yourself a pat on the back.

Thanks buddy, I enjoyed it too... apart from the cold. Just got to grind it back now and see if it stays in place. 🙂

Another great video. Your DIY skills are impressive --way superior to mine. This is a useful video as sill repairs are probably the most common body corrosion on the TF (I'm sure most TFs still on the road have had a sill repair by now). That particular spot at the end of the sill seems to be an especially rust-prone section. I've had that done, as well as another hole mid-way down the sill, but both times I left it into the professionals. Good luck with the painting -- always a very tricky job.

Give yourself a big pat on the back, nice fabrication of panel. Difficult to weld outside in the wind, especially as you are learning as you go and commentating. Looking forward to next video.

Cheers..... I just hope it stays attached when I grind off all the pigeon shit. 😀😀😀

Hi Craig, great to see the TF being saved, already subscribed and following with interest, keep it up! Nice job on the repair panel manufacture, have you considered weld through primer? I also follow Dave’s Garage and he is a big exponent of Halfords weld through primer and it seems to have excellent anti corrosion qualities too. He’s also full of tips and ideas on repair panel making and is restoring a Mk1 Escort and a Manta. He used gasless flux welding wire outside and got some respectable results. Really enjoying the channel, keep the content coming!

Nice work making that patch! The Mike Satur ones are very solid but not too cheap.
By the way your air intake pipe is looking a bit chewed up!

Nice panel, it might be easier if you put some wind breaker in position the MIG welders don't like even a small breeze, I'm a welder by trade and have struggled to weld outside, you could use flux cored wire but I like the finish better with gas. Good job though, it wasn't as rusty as I thought from the last video.

Thanks Mark, if a welder thinks I did OK that'll do for me. 👍👍👍

I've been enjoying watching these progress videos over the last few months. Great to watch in the background on my second monitor while i work. I had a similar spec MGTF 5 years ago, It was a fun car for the money! Raw, quirky and eventful.

I think it's great to do it all yourself. Can't beat a good project car to spend time on! Love watching your vids. Thanks so much for spending the time making them for us all. It's giving me the idea to film doing some stuff on my TF. I got a few jobs to do - engine SS coolant pipes, timing belt/tensioner/w-pump, and some rust treatment underneath. Oh, and a new bracket for my front anti-roll bar. A local garage welded it together after messing up some work, which I'm not happy about...
May I ask what welder you use? I'm thinking about finding a cheap-ish one for small jobs (although not bodywork yet). Cheers, Jim.

Another great video. I dont know if this is helpful. I bolted my vice to a bit of 2x4. When i need the vice i clamp the 2x4 in the workmate.

Thanks, I'm amazed how well it fits. Let's see if it stays in place once I grind off the excess welding. 😀

Wow that is very quick work if you've done it all in one day! Looks like you did a nice job of fabricating the patch, that is the most important part. The welds can be dressed back no problem. Did you have to take any of the interior out or did you get away with it in (I always worry about setting it on fire!)?

    • @Exhausted-autos
      @Exhausted-autos  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yeah pretty much a day, I've dressed back already and done a bit more welding. It's far enough away I didn't need to take anything out...
