    I think you guys found your niche by covering various Asian murders and cases. True crime is saturated for American and even European cases, so it's great to have a channel like you guys for Asian cases that I've never heard of.

    • @TheMiseryMachine
      @TheMiseryMachine  3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Thank you for saying so! And here we thought we were walking the line of doing too many. I agree, American/European cases do tend to be oversaturated, and while we do requests of more popular cases if requested enough, I very much prefer doing cases that never got the attention they deserved. I really enjoy these Asian cases, but I can't help but feel like we're underqualified to be exclusively an Asian true crime channel without at least living in those areas and having first hand experience with society and the people there. Either way, there's going to be plenty more Asian cases in the future. There are a couple in mind I'm already preparing for. Appreciate the comment - Drewby

      @@TheMiseryMachine thanks for getting back Drewby. Please don't consider yourselves under qualified based on cultural differences. I've heard some great pods like Last Podcast on the Left discuss German, Australian, and various other European killers even without living there. Your research and script writing will take your further than living somewhere.
      Besides, you both do great by disclaiming lack of cultural understanding. I've never once found myself thinking "these people don't know what they're talking about because they haven't lived in Thailand".
      I also love that you guys take the extra step of using Google translate on native articles. Most American pods are lazy about that and only use sources that were formally translated and that's frustratingly limited.
      Keep doing what you're doing. I'll find you on patron :)

      The last line of the diary is tad bit blurry. I do think it say "koroshitaikuraisuki" but the "ro" looks like "u" or "ra" so I can't be sure 🙁 if it says what I thought it is, it literally translates as "until i want to kill u, kind of "like/love".

    The fan art. 😩 My best friend was murdered by a stalker, I can't imagine how upsetting seeing fan art of her killer would be. Just repulsive. The idea of the host/hostess clubs is intriguing. I've worked in topless bars, it's more about that charm than about the body if you want to be successful.

    I remember when this was on tv. But it was soooo quickly brushed under the rug, I think it was only a hot topic on media for about 2 days before disappearing into obscurity. It was really weird considering how graphic and unusual (female attacking male) the case was. On Japanese tv they did say they were bf/gf that had started as a sugar momma/sugar baby relationship.
    I live about 15 mins from Shinjuku so despite the news not talking about it (probably because all eyes were on the govt at that time due to final designs/organizations for the Olympics games), it was not the case for regular peeps eating at the restaurants and cafes at hangouts downtown lol
    I do remember reading on Japanese twitter that the man didn't want to press charges and were in talks to get back together after her sentencing.
    Quick note: As for Kabuki-cho, yes it is absolutely the red-light district. It's not safe in the wee hours but there's worse areas in Tokyo IMHO and for Japan I'd venture to say Nishinari in Osaka is worse. Kabuki-cho is controlled by the yakuza and many of the clubs/brothels/soaplands/massage parlors are actually *not* opened to foreigners/tourists. Japanese only or invite-only. Many of the crimes that happen are behind closed doors so you wouldn't see it as a visitor. There's a grossly naive misconception that Japan is crime-free-- true it is not the same page as other 1st world countries BUT it is a place people live. And people are people no matter nationality. Of course stuff goes down! But it is kept behind the curtain, under reported (or not at all) or ignored all together in hopes to keep the image squeaky clean for the general populace.

      @@TheMiseryMachine Finding one that is foreigner friendly can actually be a bit tricky.
      There are like three "types" of host bars/clubs. One is a straight up hostess club. Really high-end, incredibly expensive and the girls are like trained conversationalists. These are the ones in and near the Ginza area. They're quite lavish.
      Then there are the Kybakura's that are in Shinjuku ..these are toned down, Less classy but i guess a bit more of "you can pay to bring her back to a hotel" type vibe. They're darker and kind of stand-off-ish IMO.
      You should check out a "snack bar". These are no touching or sexy stuff, just pay for a 30 minute or 1 hours all you can drink combo and then you can chitchat with the girls. Bar - seating type set-up.
      There's one in Shibuya that are really friendly to foreigners (guys and girls), called 10SION. Just google map 10SION Shibuya and it'll pop up. It looks like a little hole-in-the-wall type bar a floor or two up above the noise of shibuya but people there are super friendly. It'll give you a fun insight into the hostess type culture that is hard to get unless you're super rich or a celebrity.
      I Host-bars, Snack Bars and Kybakura's are all TYPES of hostbars and there is a lot of grey-zone between them.
      Also, i'm not sure where you guys live but there are a few legit japanese owned hostess bars (similar to shinjuku's Kybakura's) in North America.
      They usually advertise as a karaoke place but to customers "in-the-know) they include a hostess girl or two to cuddle up with you while you sing away, pour your drinks, compliment you and light your cigaretts. The only cities that i know for a fact to have them are LA, Vancouver, Toronto, NYC and Hawaii.

    Question:
    Has she been released yet???
    If so, can we trust her being a civilized, humane, conscience, and sane person???

    • @thomascircle245
      @thomascircle245 หลายเดือนก่อน

      She has now and occasionally streams.
      As to whether we can trust her to be such, well, from what I've seen she doesn't seem distressed by what she did but she doesn't seem proud of it either. Mostly she seems like she's just trying not to think of it and to move past it. The one time I noticed her mention it she said (assuming TH-cam's auto-translate was correct) that she's not trying to get anyone to forgive her because she considers what she did unforgivable. I haven't noticed her say anything that sounds delusional and her onscreen behavior seems friendly enough, though it's hard to say how much that means.
      As was the case in the aftermath of her trying to kill Luna, she's got a lot of people simping for her in the comments. Fortunately, since her release most of them don't reference that and the ones that do seem either critical or satirical, but I do get the feeling a lot of the people fawning over her physical attractiveness and general nerdy hobbies became aware of her BECAUSE of her crime. The most alarming thing that's happened is someone made a comment thanking her for "striking a blow against the patriarchy" or something like that, which is altogether moronic, and she liked that comment. According to some, she has also liked other comments that make her seem remorseless but I haven't seen that. (And I'm sure not in the mood to dive down a rabbit hole of cringey comments to look for it!)
      Then again, maybe these simps are the closest she has to friends as it's quite likely a lot of sane people want nothing to do with her, so maybe she thinks any potential friends she can get are gift horse's she can't afford to look in the mouth. I only hope that mental health workers are also getting involved to watch for any alarming behavior and actually encouraging her to be her best self and not her worst.

    Yuka was (still is?) dangerously psychotic. I agree that what she *caused* was disgusting, but *why* she did it clearly was due to her disturbingly deranged mind. Mental illness is a very real thing. Confusing it with moral turpitude isn't right. By no means do I condone what she did, which was horrible. But to regard her as some sort of moral degenerate misses the fact that she was obviously deeply disturbed and should have been getting therapy from a trained mental health professional. As for punishment, either confining her in a mental hospital until (if ever) she is truly cured or in the psychiatric ward of a prison, ditto, would be appropriate. I fell far sorrier for the victim than for Yuka, but Yuka really wasn't in her right mind when she did what she did. Earlier generations might have felt she was possessed by demons, you know,

    If you ever need translation help- I am not a native speaker, but I did begin learning Japanese at quite a young age (I'm 30 now) due to its huge/majority usage in several areas of Hawaii (my dad worked there, so it's like a second home.) My partner also speaks. Both of us are quite familiar with many areas of Japanese culture, both in Japan itself and elements of it found elsewhere. Bonus note: My partner is a native Korean speaker, and I have been working on learning this language as well if you ever need help there!
    PS: The letter read at the end, where she keeps repeating "I'm sorry"- that's mostly google translate being weird because of grammar. Certain phrases like "please", "thank you", "I'm sorry" are *usually* placed at the end of the sentence. English is a Subject-Verb-Object structure, Japanese is Subject-Object-Verb. This makes direct translations really clumsy unless you understand how to identify the role each word/phrase plays in the sentence of Japanese, and then rearrange them into a sensical sentence in English, and vice versa. Anyways, as I was saying in this case of things like apologies, the sentence structure in languages like Korean and Japanese usually preface the sentence with the "supporting" information. As in, you lay out all the things you did wrong and then say "I'm sorry" at the end. Normally we'd reverse that order in English. Same for requests (make the whole request, then add please onto the end), etc. Hope that helps, and thank you for all the work you put into your videos and your passion for making the world a better place 💕

    She wouldn't be considered a Yandere for attacking the very person she loved for i was curious cause there is actually multiple terms such as Tsundere plus others that tend to get mashed together into what a Yandere is but a Yandere is someone who is highly obsessed & love struck that will attack, harm or even kill anyone either it be other males or other females that dare get too close or show too much interest in the person the Yandere loves. I learned this by literally googling this information you guys give reading MULTIPLE websites & found this information plus it would give examples of anime that is Yandere themed of which every single 1 involves the Yandere attacking others not their own love interest btw.

    Zero Two isn't a yandere or a MPDG. Basically, she doesn't conform to gender roles and it makes her a baddie.
    Anyway, she probably identified with the yandere characters bc she knows she's intense like that.

    She clearly had some sort of emptiness or some mental Illness maybe delusion and she really thought she could not be happy without him. I kinda feel sorry for both of them tbh. I’m not very versed in the themes but a certain darkness/energy kinda seemed like it would be present in the very places they first met. Maybe she saw him as everything she wanted to be and couldn’t.
