This tune sounds more like Soulful House from the 2000's rather than Garage from the 1990's. This is the best version of this tune in my opinion. It gives me goose bumps and makes my heart beat fast.
Fell in love with UK Garage after listening to this track on a mix CD called "Tuff Jams - Underground Sound of London." My life literally changed forever after that when I learned to DJ and brought some goodies home from London to the USA. I will always love this remix.
I remember meeting Matt at Winter Music Conference in 99 and talking to him for like an half hour. He hooked me up with a stack of vinyl the size of Texas. Such a cool dude and one of those moments you never forget and especially as a super young DJ.
This tune takes me right back to the 90s all the good times , summer time what a blast all round the manor .pure love and respect to my beautiful wife danielle for standing by my side and being the best .i love you girl .hold tight all the old skool NEWHAM BOYS AND GIRLS LOL LOL
This was considered "Garage" not because of the kicks but because of the swinging hi-hats. If you listen closely you can hear that the hits aren't singles but paired doubles. With early Garage records, you could mix tunes in on the swinging hi-hats with the low end cut off. Also, is this version different from the Tuff Jam Vocal Mix ? Is the Classic Vocal Mix just longer or on vinyl?
Early Garage was US Garage House from New York. Named are the Gay Club, the Paradise Garage. It was what Ministry of Sound was Based on. Paradise Garage resident DJ was the Late Larry Levan. He did one gig only in the UK. That was at MOS just after it opened in Sept 1991, Just before he died.
I heard this on the Artful Dodger Rewind cd I got in Ibiza in 2000. Didn't know this was considered 'UK Garage". I thought it was just some good ole House music. This is my jam thou.
Nice to hear some of your old TuffJam tracks. 95-98 best ukg years no doubt. I remember 'Tuff Enuff' playing a track at Sun City '97, sampling Tina Moore's 'never let u go' chorus only. I think it may have been you production, as it sounded like your 'sound'. Any idea what I'm on about!???
Ps I think strictly speaking whether it it a garage track is based on the beat pattern. Where the emphasis of the beat it is. Does it matter though? Funk emphasis was on the first note and garage has grown out of funk. Do you have to assign a genre?
Big up!! Loved that rave!! Also: Exposure, La Cosa Nostra, Underground Explosion, Freek'N You and many other special nights. The London rave scene was epic!! We were spoilt for choice. Glad to have lived that era!!!
what are the comments about it being a garage jam about? was this considered a garage track? the vox are have a u.k garage feel but a housey track. the beats shuffle is bang on trend now with the garage house stuff.
+Eric Cookson it's got the bumpy garage groove but i recon it's more about who produced it - tuff jam are garage producers. if, say roger sanchez produced it, and it was a few bpm slower it would be prob be considered a house tune. but garage originally referred to soulful gospelly house - bah, it's all semantics.
Check recordings from stations like London Underground FM and Freek FM particularly the years 1995-1998 before the Garage sound changed. We have those recordings of Tuff Jam were also DJs, DJKarl Tuff Enuff Brown and Matt Jam Lamont. Also The Dreem Team (DJ Spoony, Mikee B & Timmi Magic), M.J. Cole, DJ Jason Kaye, DJ Richie Fingers, DJ EZ, DJ Mystic Matt (Bubbling Crew), Jason H, Jazzy D, Maddness KMA, DJ Bullet, DJ Hermit, Ramsey & Fen and many others.
This song is the cure for depression

I love this Remix-this is one of the reasons I love House.
100% agree we used to listen this in Holland 2001😉😉
Back then I got the Tuff Jam CD because of this song
In terms of music style I think its a mixture of both

One of my favourites

Agreed
This is the one I always played back then but now I play the Todd Edwards vocal remix more... Such a great tune.
One of my Favourites .
One of the greatest records ever, this and MJ Cole Sincere are the best two garage records ever made!
Such a shame that UK Garage appeared to have fallen off the face of the Earth. Where did all this talent go?
+importedmusic i really want to know!
It turned into grime
who knows bro. like the jungle ting in the early to mid 90s. it was an era thing i guess
Yea but garage is by far the mlst bubbly genre to come out of the uk
importedmusic i

This doesn't even really sound like uk garage though.
Love this, takes me back 20+ years. Wow.
Indeed!! Good music is timeless, sprinkled with nostalgia it's too damn powerful!!
I was 19 and I was buying MOS compilations every month. This was a sweet tune included on it. So commercial but sounds great anyway!
Eric Morillo..Ministry of Sound.. Think I had it on tape! Everytime I hear this track it reminds me of it too... love it
This is where I heard it as well. 😍👍

I caught onto that but I thought I was just wrong lol
This version just seems to be extended that’s rly the only diff

There are so many views - how are they not all loves for this tune? Hey hey hey hey! Beautiful!
Tuff Jam... Pair played garage as was meant to be... Cassette tapes then, and soulful dance music... With feeling! 😁 Yes.. ✌️
Also found there's a tune called 'Love Shy' by 'Subjoi'. It's basically a deep house instrumental version of this tune.
It's the same shit with a low bypass filter and slower

Tuff Jam 4 x 4 is forever!!

my bad try this one. th-cam.com/video/hZjK0wSM_xs/w-d-xo.html
wonderful!
i would say this is rather more house music than uk garage
House was always close to garage
Ya garage was rooted in house.
Although i agree with you that this song is more close to the source (i.e House) than other garage songs ive heard
The song sounds the same however you classify it so who gives a shit
My garage is attached to the side of my house
so dope wow
YAAAAAAAAASSSSSSS!!!!!!!
Classic beautiful 🔊♥️💘💖💋🔥🧨
I'm sure I've had this mix on a head kandi CD..

True, but my sixth sense is saying it's UK Garage. It's the chords, the vocal style, something is slightly different.
People! It was a garage remix, done by garage producers and arguably the best ones at that. It is a garage track so stop arguing over it.
Boom !!!
YES!
THATS DA CHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON YES !
For real!!!!!!!
subjoi should be rewarded for bringing us here - heehee. But nevertheless this has its own style. Good one!!
I'm eager for recommendations of music that sound like this. Thinking garage with the same energy. Am a garage newbie.
