Oh Boy did you guys get this all wrong. Apparently, you seem to believe that the key to understanding these teachings was to interpret the lessons as teachings of modern-day psychology. The self-importance issue for instance wasn't about learning to embrace other "worldviews" and not feel yours is the best or only right one. It was rather that you must disconnect yourself from ALL limiting beliefs about - well - Anything. You got the seeing thing all wrong as well. it isn't HOW you see things, or how you need to find their deeper meaning. It was about an ability to use the second sight to "see" the energy systems, dismissions, and fields of those energy structures that ACTUALLY define this world. It was to see past our corporeal dimensions to realms where other beings exist. Ones that could "help" a man of knowledge by teaching him things and giving him personal power. That power is actually non corporeal energy that can be used to shape our very reality. It does in fact "run things" in realms our scientist doesn't even know exist yet. ALL of these things that are brought up in the books very closely mimic teachings from others who came before these books but are a totally unique way of teaching about nonphysical reality. The Art of dreaming is essentially Lucid dreaming and it's practical use. It WORKS, just as described in these books. Seeing allows one not only to "see" in a third eye manner the energy fields, but to understand what they represent as a culmination of all that person's personal beliefs. Other teachings such as Being impeccable with ones will is the KEY to changing your reality to anything you want and being able to manipulate these underlying energy sources (as the sorcerers did) and entities. Unbending intent is one minded focus, without conflicting beliefs. Stopping the world is to literally disconnect from the thought steams that are "hooking us to reality" and thus exposing the underlying struture of our world. I could go on and on, because everything in these books is clear to me because of years of previous work understanding these same principles - and it's not at all what you are saying.
Your comment was enlightening. I feel at my age of 61 that the only things that come before me are there for a reason, usually to teach a more grounded life. Sometimes so blatant that i have to laugh at the bad script writing. But to try and manipulate and gain value in the real world, the universe says no.
Even castaneda view is only partial because it tends to limit one of being a" warrior". But what is a warrior ? Basically a destroyer. At the end of day why not being a " creator " . For sure to build you must first destroy, but if you get stuck in the " warrior mindset" , you will not move higher : being an artist and a creator of realities. 💚
I think Don Juan had a different idea about an impeccable warrior. As reiterated recently by Dr. Jordan Peterson, a warrior remains impeccable by training in every way to be an aggressive, destructive, monster. Then through internal strength and character, he learns to control that inner fury at all times. The result is a better man to walk next to through life or hire to help build a business.
@@Wayinsworld Well that is again a very limited way to see for being a better man is not the goal. Tô be better by which standard? The society? Your friends ? An artist does not care to be integrated in the society or to be a better person : he is himself always what Ýver society accept him or not !
Classic straw man logical fallacy. Attribute to your opponent something that they didn't say, then attack that. In this case, your definition of a warrior is not Castanedas'/Don Juan's.

To be a warrior is not identity based, as all masks are false and illusory, such as I am this or that. Rather a warrior is a process, a function of mind, in how the phenomenal reality is to be approached. It is about developing freedom and expansion in mind, by establishing the quality of non-resistance, by acquiring the courage to face the demons of both the inner and outer life. There are many layers to the warrior mind, non-resistance is only one of them. Ask the question what does warrior mind mean to you?
Dissolve your ego without a superego to operate within and you become a tool of whoever dupes you first. Keep your ego, rationalize the best future for all, and only then dissolve your ego in its service.
Carlos's real lesson wasn't "act like a warrior" but "act like a new age cult leader". As one who enjoyed his books when they came out in my teenage years there was no real wisdom ever revealed. They all implied that the next book in the series would do that and never did. Carlos even told his followers many times it was all BS but his followers always saw this as a test or another lesson in their apprenticeship. He was a smart cult leader because he kept everything small, low key, and out of the public eye which allowed him to reap most of the benefits without being publicly exposed or shamed on a large scale.

Don Juan teaches us what it means to be fully alive and there is nothing more important than this. Thanks for sharing this beautiful video!

Is the act of accepting that we have no free will an example that we do have the freedom to choose ?
We do have have Free Will.. inside Destinys parameters...
In any situation, there are options we can choose from. It's about being able to choose and have no regrets.

there was nothing specific in this, just verbiage that tugs at the emotions, not really very helpful
when I read Don Juan some years ago, what I remembered was that "nothing really matters but we must choose a path and act as if it does"

Feel-good drivel. Nothing of substance. I can see this being appealing to people who are too lazy to read actual philosophy.
Most all modern "philosophy" is useless pointless drivel.
