Not a mistake in my book. Wedged frames cost more than grooved frames. It may only be a few cents per, but add that up over 100 or 1000 frames and it adds up fast. It's a simple modification you can make and batch out in no time. If you are trying to find that line between breaking even or going in the hole with bees, little things like that can make the difference. Especially if trying to convince the wife that you really need to get more gear for your "hobby" that takes so much of your time and money.
