When I first heard this song I was driving with my new kitten. He'd been keeping me up for days so I took him for a drive and we listened to this and he finally fell asleep.
When I first heard this years ago, I was completely transfixed in place & could not stop the flow of tears at one point. The family around me listened so intently. They held back their tears but I let mine flow in complete bliss at this celestial magnificence! I called the Canadian radio station to learn who this composer was and they said they had been flooded with calls, and even reports of many ppl pulling over in their cars because it was too much to bear. We have in our midst people one of the composers who will make history, one of the legends of our time!!!
The first snow of the year, perfectly calm outside. I couldn’t believe the size of the snowflakes and intensity. I grabbed my phone and started filming at the window while this beautiful music was playing on CBC radio... i turned the volume up high and watched, mesmerized and deeply moved. Requiem to life and it’s precious beauty. Celebration of love and loss. I understand your tears.
this piece takes me through the entire range of emotions in relationships, from the first highs to the devastating endings, and i , now alone, in my life, remember , and feel all the feelings again thru this piece of music . magic
A brilliant piece of music. The first time I heard it, I was in tears by the end of the first movement. I wish my fellow Canadians were more aware of this amazing composer.
with you...fell down twice in 10 days...feel bruised and beaten by life...November is always intense...just when i think i have put behind me, a pregnancy, and subsequent abortion, on Christmas Eve, 40 yrs ago now, it catches me off guard every year.
When I first heard this, I was driving back to work from lunch for 1:00, listening to CBC. I was already a couple of minutes late, but when I heard this I had to pull over in front of my work and just sit there. I was a half hour late to work from lunch.
A chance flip to cbc just as this began.. A very fortunate slip that has provided a rare canadian treasure that I will share with everyone I can. Thank you Marjan and the wonderful musicians who made this a magical slice of my life
Minute 7:20 just amazes me how the violin goes from playing that really fast scale with the bow still sliding on each note and then suddenly it BOUNCES each individual note in the last scale at minute 7:30....crazy skills. I also got lucky and heard this song on the radio many years ago...had to pull over. Happy to hear many had the same experience.
just discovered this violin concerto today - helps restore my faith in modern classical music - i haven't felt so deeply moved by a modern concert work since listening to James Horner's double concerto for violin and cello composed in 2014 - Marjan's violin concerto is absolutely sublime - but in a way it also makes one sad to think how few modern classical works we have which actually touch the human heart and soul in such a profoundly personal way - it's a cautionary tale for all modern composers - you don't get into the audience's heart (or your own heart for that matter) by screams, protestations, showmanship, scholarship or clanging jarring knocks on the door - as an old song once said: "Try a Little Tenderness"
Beautiful violin concerto!!!! Wow...Spellbound!!! Working at the office and I had to stop and look at the sky from my window and listen. Enjoyed it to the core!
I heard first heard this twice on In Performance (The program that used to be on in the evening between 7 or 8 and 10) years apart. I have a feeling the first time might have been the premiere played at a (the Winnipeg?) new music festival and recorded for the program, and didn't catch the name of it either time. It took me YEARS to figure out what it was, and track down the CD. Remember those good ol' days of CBC, but before the internet made it easy to figure out what it was you heard? Every time I hear the closing theme of that show, Pavane Pour une Infante Defunte, it brings back great memories of childhood, and the voice of the host, Eric Friesen.
Is there a greater piece of Canadian music ! I saw strangers stop to listen and smile...cars stopping in the street. not since Glenn Gould maybe such an universal impact ..... have shared with many Eropean friends and all love it too !!
An absolute stunning piece that does take control of quite everything that music can do for us . A power to be experienced for sure , I love this , and , its composer Marjan Mozetich is Canadian to top it all off!
You're welcome back any time. We're just nice like that....Ask anyone. :) I first heard this on the CBC only Two years ago, and I swear it sent chills vibrating through me. Truely haunting.
+Ggirl Lifestyle Nutrition & Reiki yes it was on CBC Tempo that morning, .did you also hear it that morning? There is so much emotion in this song. The 2:00 to 3:00 minute mark especially for me....Nice to meet you.. we also share Reiki..,,, master attunement :)
+Ggirl Lifestyle Nutrition & Reiki Hi Sandy, this piece is definitely complex and perfect for the imagination to get lost in its beauty...I have listened to it several times since.
This is so beautiful! I had to keep listening before I started my next job while working. The best thing about working alone is that there is no one to complain about CBC2
Thank you so much for sharing Marjan Mozetich's music. This continues to be one of my favourite violin concertos since I first heard it on CBC Radio back in the 90s. Regrettably it has currently fallen into obscurity for the most part but obviously it resonates rather strongly with so many that I know we can continue to keep it alive and give Marjan Mozetich the credit he deserves as the fantastic composer he should to be recognized as.
Just heard this on the radio earlier today. I had to chock back tears as I was on the road. And a frantic search online has led me here. This is beautiful, thank you.
Caught this midway thru, on cbc2 last friday. I thought, what is this? I was amazed at where it seemed to be pulling from, the violin soloist is a marvel! I agree with the hosts comments, this was one of those pieces/performances that so enthrall and astound, you know you can never forget it. thank you!
Muchas gracias por compatir esta gran pieza de musica del grandioso Marjan Mozetich, en lo particular es lo mejor que he escuchado en toda mi vida. Buena vida.
how bizarre.. when I first heard this ...song?...I had to pull into a supermarket parking lot..it was impossible to drive..I was simply poleaxed... tears streaming down my face...there is something so magnificent going on here...and i'm not sure what it is..but it's very strong
That's so weird! I had exactly the same experience, I was in the parking lot of a freaking Tim Hortons literally bawling my eyes out, completely transfixing, mystical music
Spellbound. Had to literally stop n listen. Went from one intensity to another. Beautiful music. Might be related to my husband’s family. Darlene P Mozetich.
Very interesting, attractive and well assembled music but definitely does not move me to tears. To say it is the best violin concerto is highly subjective, a matter of personal taste. Reminds me Phillip Glass
Was driving home from exercise class when this came on CBC. Had to wait in the garage for a few minutes to listen to all of it. Lovely!
I heard when I was driving......I arrived to my destination in tears , sooo beautiful it's breathtaking....!!!!! Thank you CBC Radio 2
Today it played on CBC and Julie actually said it had the driveway effect, meaning you reach your destination and stay in the car to the end.
Same thing happened to me..had to pull off the road and listen
my maiden name is Beres and thank you Agnes, I agree..
I was driving when I heard it also, in like 2011 or so. I had to sit in it and listen to the end. It just entranced me.
When I first heard this song I was driving with my new kitten. He'd been keeping me up for days so I took him for a drive and we listened to this and he finally fell asleep.
A guy came in and played this for us at my school…it was so beautiful and I’m so happy to find this song again

Always a pleasure to hear this again; it's an honour to be able to say that I was a student of Dr.Marjan Mozetich!
Me too. Queen's?
Wow...love his music. That's awesome.
Hey there is the only one
I broke down in tears today in the car while listening to this. Reading through the comments, it seems I'm not the only one to have that experience
I see teeming shoals of fish in the ocean really vividly
Listening to this for the first time today.... was one of the most beautiful experiences.... god bless this piece.

Breathtaking everytime I hear it, Year after year.
this is celestial, I am lost somewhere between the clouds
this piece takes me through the entire range of emotions in relationships, from the first highs to the devastating endings, and i , now alone, in my life, remember , and feel all the feelings again thru this piece of music . magic

Agreed, an underrated master of our time :D
Every second is breathtaking.
this is one of the most beautiful piece of music I have ever heard
Genuinely having one of the worst mental breakdowns of my life, but this soothing piece is helping me greatly.

First Cd I've bought in over a decade.
It's so heart-rendingly beautiful, I cry every time I hear it.

I'm not sure exactly why or how but this is a really special kind of emotional impact. I can't listen without crying for real.
Takes me places where I wish I could stay. Beautiful and magical.
A chance flip to cbc just as this began.. A very fortunate slip that has provided a rare canadian treasure that I will share with everyone I can. Thank you Marjan and the wonderful musicians who made this a magical slice of my life

I Canadian genius. He should be celebrated as a national treasure. Bravo!
Just heard it on CBC Radio 2 Tonic. Ugh, so moving.
I too stopped the car and sat to listen to it in complete silence.
Same the first time I heard it!
This is the most incredible music. Imagine dancing freeflow to it. I just can't believe how it makes me feel. It's the most incredible music!
Just heard this in Winnipeg on classic 107... And I just sat in my car and felt it. So beautiful.

By listening, we relive the inexpressibly moving experience of which it sings ...
This has been a favourite of mine for years. One of those rare works of art that tells a story from beginning to end - a lovely dream.
Tempo has opened my mind to so much amazing music!
This is so stunning--I was so captivated the first time I heard it, there is nothing like it. God bless Marjan!!!
I first heard Marjan on the CBC in Vancouver in the 90's, it touched my heart then, and still does, now live in Austria.

Vernon Last you can always come back
You're welcome back any time.
We're just nice like that....Ask anyone. :)
I first heard this on the CBC only Two years ago, and I swear it sent chills vibrating through me.
Truely haunting.
Midnight, pour a glass, and sit back and go to a good place. It's all there is in this world.
Love this piece, so nostalgic and intricate in moods, simply addictive.
I heard this beautiful piece of music new years day morning while driving to work crossing the bridge...amazing moment

A Canadian masterpiece played masterfully by Canadian musicians; an affair of the heart !
Found this song on NPR starting about 18:50 and it had me hooked.
The most beautiful sound ever created...
If I had a car I too w'd've stopped and listened.... as it happened I was transfixed where I stood as I let the beauty flow over and thru me.
Потрясающе прекрасная музыка!!!Спасибо.
Myself as well; they played it again a few days ago and I was stunned at how beautiful this piece is. Love it.
LOVE YOU CANADA!
If you are blown away by this music, try Ralph Vaughan Williams "The Lark Ascending"
That was very intense. Next time I listen to this, I am going to lie down for my own safety.
This is so beautiful! I had to keep listening before I started my next job while working. The best thing about working alone is that there is no one to complain about CBC2

What a beautiful piece of music. So great to listen to and enjoy, let the notes flow over you. I can't help but be moved by it.

I always come back to this beautiful piece of music for the last 5 years. He is better than Vivaldi here …yah I said it.
It's such a pure emotion. I come back to this too, really magical music
I'm stopping other people's cars, just so they can hear this!
Lovely piece if a little more romantic in some ways - but I quite like it!
❤❤❤❤❤
Very interesting, attractive and well assembled music but definitely does not move me to tears. To say it is the best violin concerto is highly subjective, a matter of personal taste. Reminds me Phillip Glass
It is a piece or composition. Songs have words.
Have you ever hummed or whistled a song to yourself ?
GO CANADA!
The part that starts at 19:03 reminds me of Martin Denny - Firecracker / Yellow Magic Orchestra - Firecracker
@Xiabalba - exactly.
Rapturous
what a great word.
thank you
