    Nice video. I appreciate you showing the later stages, not the first, like the others. I'd like to wait for another video about another genre.

    Whenever I see Ruff N Tumble, I think to myself, how on earth could this AMAZING game run on an Amiga 500?.
    The devs were wizards of dark magic.

    • @mattx5499
      @mattx5499 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Ruff n' Tumble was just a game that used Amiga capabillities unlike many ported games that were converted from less capable platforms without improving anything. Many of games that were converted to Amiga were just badly made ports. The games that were first on the Amiga or were exclusive for the platform looked and sounded the best at the time.

      @danyoutube7491 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mattx5499 Lionheart and Bubba 'n' Stix are two other games in this list which highlight just how gorgeous and colourful OCS/ECS games could be. There were so many ports from consoles that looked anaemic in comparison to the originals or lacked features such as parallax scrolling. Perhaps in some instances it could have been down to a technical brick wall such as the Amiga not having the advanced sprite capabililties of machines like the Megadrive or SNES, but more often I think the coders of games like Cool Spot just didn't know what the Amiga was capable of (or didn't have the time and resources to do the work properly).

    • @litjellyfish
      @litjellyfish 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@danyoutube7491often sadly it was the latter. Many (not all oc) coders of bad ports simply just got days to make it.
      “Is it up and running?”
      Yes
      “No bugs that will make the game impossible to finish?”
      No

      1. 25fps
      2. No parallax
      3. Designed specifically for the A500
      4. Really skilled and dedicated devs, armed with late-era code and techniques for getting the most out of the hardware

    Also, thank you so much for posting this - my uncle had Amiga and I would go to his smokey den in 1994-1995 to play Amiga games. I had managed to trace most of the Amiga exclusives I had played there, like Superfrog, Lotus III, First Samurai, and even Traps and Treasures, the name of which I kept forgetting (English not being my native language). With your video I finally found the last of them - Lionheart!

    If Daimakaimura is one of the best Amiga games, with it being a half assed port, I wouldn't be surprised to see ZX Spectrum conversions with a couple extra colors and better sound as some of the worst ones.

      Wow, that was a fantastic game, thank you for being part of making it. It was one of the sensations of the early 90s, there was a lot of buzz around it because of the well drawn and animated cartoon-style graphics.

    Lionheart was pure quality. If all Amiga games looked and played like Lionheart the Amiga would have sold 10X as much as it did and we'd all be using Amigas today.

    According to lore, Addams Family was supposed to have parallax backgrounds like Toki, but there was a bug that turned them black and they couldn't fix it before they had to ship...

    Great video. It's a shame that the playback makes some games, like Superfrog, for example, look like they have quite jerky scrolling - when in reality they scrolled perfectly smoothly on the actual Amiga hardware.

    Pretty sure I would not include Oscar is such a best-of-platform-video, and I would maybe consider Mr. Nuts and Giana Sisters instead... but other than that I love this video. Great selection, especially with Arabian Nights and Beast 3!

    • @danyoutube7491
      @danyoutube7491 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never played Arabian Nights but it looks fun. I would perhaps have put Zool in the list rather than Oscar; not an outstanding game but a good one, Zool was, whereas Oscar looked as though the developers threw 200 buckets of paint of different colours at the screen. Just a garish mess which hampered the player in seeing what was going on. I wasn't a big platformer fan at all, though Blues Brothers was the very first demo disk game that I played and it was very fun, and we bought Aladdin which was a pleasingly good game despite being a movie tie-in! I only played Rodland for the first time a year ago or even less, having written it off as a child because it looked garish and overly cutesy in its aesthetic. I would urge anyone else who hasn't tried it to give it a go, it is a game with nice graphics and simple but very fun gameplay. I've never played anything like it before and it's probably one of the best, if not THE best, arcade conversions for the Amiga.

    Super Frog and Prince of Persia is the best.

    • @danyoutube7491
      @danyoutube7491 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was never impressed by Superfrog. It had very neat graphics, smooth scrolling and a pretty good feel to the character control, but a bit bland in terms of gameplay. A lot of Team 17 games were a bit like that (Worms being a magnificent exception), very smart presentation and competent gameplay but lacking great substance. Prince of Persia, meanwhile, was without a doubt an instant classic and is still very playable today (if you can find a version that doesn't halt you with the copy protection potions, that is).

    ... Holy F, what on earth is the awful conversion of Ghouls N Ghosts doing in there?
    That was one of the "straight from ST" consumer-conning horrors which plagued the Amiga. All of the mid-to-late 80s classic Capcom arcade titles got butchered in that way (except for Ghosts N Goblins, which eventually got a good conversion several years later).
