- Thanks for checking out my Jake’s Face Reaction Video! Today, I am reacting to Estonia’s entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. The artist is Elina. The song is La Forza. Let me know what you want me to react to in the comments!

Estonia is about the best I've seen at Eurovision for at least a decade. Absolutely blown away! Probably the best singer technically to ever grace Eurovision. 12 points from Denmark!
Yeah but a song where a woman made chicken noises won...
You don't have to be an opera fan to love this song, her flawless voice just draws you in and takes you with her.
This woman is really otherworldly.
Her voice is the most impressive thing, I love it. My brain goes insane, if I listen to it carefully.

that final note!!! F7 !! incredibly high, even beyond the usual reach of a soprano voice. I'm delighted to find this in a Eurovision final! (also of course the entry for my own country: Waylon and same as I still am in love with the song that won in 2017, did you react on that last year too?)

Only an F6 but however the highest head voice note I have ever heard. At this level, singers usually shift to whistle register. She is stunning!
@@florianpichon6050 It is whistle register indeed! I'm practicing that song for a contest and I can assure you that is hella difficult, but it's the best Eurovision song I've ever heard. Wish me luck!

It wasn't the first time for me to hear her sing. There is another show on television in Estonia where she competed. She came second I think. Not sure. But same. I was still like whaaat!? Every time she went higher and I was so happy that she was chosen. She is amazing and the heights her voice can go... 💛

Yes, Estonia didn't make it to the finals last year, because we decided to send an outdated cheesy duet about two lovers being lost in an Italian city (I don't know where this sudden obsession with Italy came from). Or I think it was about that, I never really concentrated on the lyrics, the memories of soap operas drowned everything else out. At least the internet got "richer" by a few memes. It was called "Verona", sung by Koit Toome & Laura, if you're interested.
But I'm glad you enjoyed this year's song. It would be among my 5 favourites at the moment, if I could vote for it.
ankhefenra Ohhhh. Yes! I remember the memes of the guy awkwardly staring at the woman! Wow. What a difference one year makes...from not qualifying for the final to being a favorite to win the whole thing!
We've had some strange ups and downs in the last years. In '15 Estonia got 7th place, in '16 dead last in the semi, '17 was Verona, '18 La Forza is a favourite again. And now Moldova seems to be doing the same thing, nearly won last year and now they send a soap opera song from the '90s. At least it's catchy.
I enjoyed Verona last year Estonia I think you were robbed . Don't get me wrong ,you should win this year and I will be voting Estonia on the night but last year Verona would have been in the final in my opinion but the staging and the beginning was just a bit of a disaster.
I didn't particularly like any of the options last year, but when it got to the superfinal I was 100% sure Spirit Animal was going to win. And then Verona won and I remembered how many people in my family like to watch soap operas.
Verona was an awesome song that should have qualified.

We Estonians are extremely vain when it comes to cutting edge technology. I'm surprised it wasn't advertised from every rooftop in Tallinn: our rep on the Eurovision Song Contest wears a dress made of smart textile! The word on the street, however, has it that the dress act will be dropped for the finals, since it has been done more or less in the same way for five times already.
no one cares about the dress... it may help with the performance... somewhat... what's special in Estonia's entry is her performance, which is very good.

really? i wouldn't be surprised. I know i keep thinking of Moldova 2013 when i see the performance, though the song is still phenomenal.
I picture her, still with a really long dress, but with smoke clouds at her feet and weather effects, like rain effects or something, and lightning flashes, but not in a dark stormy way, in a beautiful way, since "La Forza" is "The Force" and I always associate the word force with thunderstorms, but that's just me. x3

I think I finally worked out what the deal is with that dress, or skirt, to be precise. Light is neither projected from above or under it, the material itself, smart textile if you will, emits light.
It turns out I was wrong - the shapes are projected from outside after all.

I've always watched the semifinals through Sweden or another country's livefeed. It works perfectly. Never had a problem!
not a fan of opera, never been, don't think i'll ever be...but this woman was just, wow. as you said, she was hitting glass shattering notes with an expression that showed no effort at all, i mean... god damn!
i'm still dissapointed at the final results, but i guess a video on those is coming haha...one of the worst contests since i can remember tbh, no songs that stood out at all, and "a joke of a song" won the thing...oh, and ukraine managed the incredible feat of getting last place in the juri vote...like, whaaat? loool, oh well...) hope for much better stuff next year
since i'm a metal fan, i was a bit biased, even though I knew hungary wouldn't win 'cuz it's "too metal"... even Lordi was a lot softer than that, but hey, diversity, am i right?

You're almost right, Jake. Elina's high notes here have only been topped in Eurovision once. Croatia's entry by Maja Blagdam goes all the way up to Bflat 6, 5 semitones above Elina's F6. That said, Maja's high note was reached through a somewhat chaotic high trill between two mid-range sections of the final chorus. It came across quite differently to the poised, deliberate end to La Forza.

Before I read the translation I thought La Forza was about the power of the elements, about Earth's cry to appreciate her beauty and generosity to nurture us, but also reminding us to fear her might.
