At 17:17 when you pulled that necklace out of the brown box, my heart skipped a beat! I have the same necklace and the matching bracelet that belonged to my mom. I’m 63 and I wore it to my prom when I was 16. Probably not valuable in terms of money but definitely vintage and very sentimental to me. I imagine my own son would throw it away, todays generation doesn’t want this sort of thing, but you just loaded me up on memories of my sweet mom and the day she fastened the necklace around my neck for prom!

The sons she sacrificed everything for to give a them a good life should be ashamed of themselves. Especially as military men. I don't care how busy you are, what you are going through in your grief, you don't disrespect your mother by not taking care of her home and belongings in one way or another. I love that you are so kind and respectful. If they've passed, then RIP and thank you for your service.

When we moved out of a townhouse that we had rented for over 10 years, I started to cry when it was time to leave. My husband started crying too. We got married in that house, sent our kids to school, proms, homecomings, Thanksgivings, Christmases, etc. Some of the best years of my life were spent in that townhouse.

Jeremy, as you explore abandon homes your empathy touches our hearts with memories of those we have lost. Mrs. Smith's children if they are living showed little respect for their mother, and the family home for leaving it like this. Sadly this is becoming a reality in today's world. Hopefully some distant family member might see your video and bring closure for her.

As the owner of a little online vintage shop I loved seeing all the knick knacks (the mermaids, fish and swans in the bathroom especially). It gives me a little glimpse into the past and the way things used to be done(decor-wise).
On the other hand It's sad to imagine that after devoting her life to taking care of her family that she was left all alone with her stuff. I hope my kids will forever be in my life and one day, when I go, they will take a few of my cute collectibles/art to remember me by and sell or donate the rest. Family first- stuff second.
I hope her family sees this video and makes the trip to tie up the loose ends. Go and honor their momma and sell some of the stuff that still has value before it's looted or bulldozed.

Having a son who joined the USMC I know the feeling of being left alone, as he's on east coast, I'm pacific NW. He' not big into 'stuff', so when I go, I expect something similar. We should be more involved with our family then with the crap we're brainwashed into thinking is important. I can't imagine though the sons never returned to pick something of hers to remember her by. At the least, hire out like church folk to go in, box things and donate. The cars could've been sold. Such a shame how so many die and their 'life' is left unclaimed.

What a great walk through. So many sweet items and great colors. I love the green chenille spread , Instead of a sad place, I think of it as a mosoleum honoring the people who lived here. It might be deteriorating, but it is still a museum of sorts that shows the family, the times, the fads and fashions of the period. And most importantly a look into an American family. The retro furnishings are amazing and fun. I'm guessing this house had a LOT of love and laughter.

For everyone commenting about how can people leave all of this behind. My brother was the executor of my grandmother’s estate. The amount of work that goes into that is huge. Meeting with attorneys, clearing out the house, dividing up any money left to relatives, getting legal documents signed, selling the house, contacting banks credit card companies and govt agencies of the death, paying off outstanding debt, setting up a bank account for incoming funds and paying any ongoing bills, people breaking in the house to steal the copper pipes, etc. He almost had a nervous breakdown over it and we weren’t close with my dad’s mom and she didn’t have much at all. And a lot of the time the older folks let their homes fall into disrepair so even if they sold it they might not get much. And the location of the home may have been desirable at one point but the neighborhood goes to crap.

What you said is so true! Sadly most folks don’t realize this. Also, I noticed that a lot of these places came from the depression era or boomer generations. They were thought to keep everything. Always so much trinkets and knick- knacks. The younger generations usually aren’t Knick-knack people. Most of them are grown with full homes already. The sad truth a lot of these houses already need a ton of repairs to start with. As we age, we can’t do the same things as we did younger. So many of these homes haven’t been repaired since or updated since the 70’s or 80’s. I am 45 and I can honestly say my mom is a pack rat. She is from the boomer generation as is my husbands mom who an actual hoarder. We both agreed we’d take pictures or small meaningful things. As for my husbands mom, we agreed that most of her stuff has been trashed as it’s riddled is cat urine. We actually convinced my mom to downsize to a small house with few possessions. Her house will be locked and auctioned immediately. Profits will be sold between us 3 daughters. My mom is incredibly smart and knows what happens when people pass. Her father passed in 92 and his farm sat in probate for over 15 years. Our children want even less than we have. I make it a point to throw things out. I also don’t do knick-knacks and trinkets. I can tell you first hand, I live in a 1920’s house and something is always breaking. In 5 years our home is paid for and we plan on downsizing and having even less. Stuff is just stuff and you can’t take it when you pass.

Her wedding dress wouldn't have a tag on it. This was a truly heartbreaking exploration. The lady seemed to be very organized and careful with her many things - drawers containing neatly folded items, everything with a place - all of this despite 23 years of being left desolate. It sure is a mystery that none of her beloved family came back to get mementos or see to the property.

The old Singer Sewing machine you found is similar to one that my mother had, and it has a hinged top on it (I could see the hinges in your video) and you swing open that top wooden panel by the hinges and there inside the table itself is the sewing machine. It is then pivoted up for use and a small wooden panel is pulled down to support the weight of the sewing machine. When finished using it, it could be stowed away just as you found it. I would never have known this if my Mom didn't teach me to sew on the one she had. Beautiful video, beautiful home, and you are a great explorer who always shows respect to the home owners.

A very respectful tour of a sad situation. House and cars have not been trashed at all. At 24:37 we see a roller organ. I had one just like it that worked. This is a hand cranked organ with two bellows. The round cylinder with nails protruding slowly revolves and presses the oval organ keys behind it. The crank has been removed but can be seen to the right inside the case. To play a different song, the "cob" is removed by pulling the round knob on the right. This is a table model of what some would call a "hurdy-gurdy".

That house is definitely a story Time piece. It hasn’t looked like it was updated since the 70s. Super cool

It's a damn shame that her kids left everything behind..a part of their mother's legacy...IMO, they didn't mature enough to return the love and dedication she had for years shown to them...there are many families like this one...so ungrateful & so sad...

maybe it was to hard for them im living in the house my mom died in and today makes a yr of her passing and all i want to do is move out its not easy living in a home your mom died in so no its not a shame if you dont know how they took it or how close they are to their mom gotta think she was the only one who raised them the only parent they actually knew so its a damn shame that you would even judge someone over something like this

and also i woke up to seeing my mom dead and not responding so dont judge until ou know the facts of everything just because he is talking dont mean that he knows the actual facts if the family int there hes only going to get stories from people who only knew them not actually live there or know what happened to cause them not to claim it

Someone linked this video to a facebook reel in which someone else was exploring this same house. I'm glad they did. Really impressed with the quality of your vids. Subbed right away!

This is one of the saddest and most moving videos I've seen on abandoned houses. The music and commentary really make it. Well done.

Thank you for the share! As someone in the industry all I can think is, Oh my gah how amazing would it be to use all these pieces of history in a period piece!!
I think this story is worth looking into more for sure!
Because Guys! 😫 we are leaving such mean comments about the kids, but absolutely none of us know what she was like as a person!
Please allow me to play advocate for the voiceless for a moment…
Not to speak I’ll of the dead, but what if she was a horrible mother? Horrible mothers have some of the cutest, most well maintained houses you’ve ever seen!! Not to mention they LOVE to fill their house with the smiling faces of their loved ones, so they can write a different narrative in their own mind about what life was like for them. 😬 dark I know, but true.
What if she was a horrible person in general? Don’t you find it odd that not one of her church friends, stepped forward to claim anything either.
I’m just saying we’re sitting here demonizing the children, but we don’t know a thing about them.
Or perhaps she was so wonderful people just couldn’t bare to disrupt her stuff…
It looks very much like she had a daughter too, why is there no mention of her I wonder?
It just seems like there’s more of a story here, how very odd that the house has sat all these years and no one has ever even ransacked it.
PS-my post is loving, not malicious. I just felt bad that we thought the kids were bad kids, but it’s rare that a kid doesn’t like his mother for no reason, you know?
I just find this particular post a juicy one, full of Whys? Which may or may not have an easy answer.
Please do a follow up for us inquiring minds!! 🙏🏼💜
