Best time to plant them is in the fall, late September, they begin to grow in couple weeks or so, but then comes the frost and they die, but then in the spring time they wake up and grow faster and bigger because they have more roots. I save kitchen leftovers like egg shells, potato peels, chicken leftovers or any food leftovers and use them as fertilizer in the garlic garden.
Thank you! Just went out and stuck a ginormous farmers market organic garlic bulb in my tub of beautiful romaine lettuce. Planted under 1 inch of soil. That’s got to be the fastest planting that I’ve ever done. Took me 5 seconds.
I'm in zone 7A (VA) and have been holding off planting my garlic. We've had several mid-20 degree nights, but also many mid-60 degree afternoons. We're expecting freezing rain and ice within the next 10-days, so I'll be getting them in the ground this weekend. I haven't tried organic garlic, so I may grab some and give it a go. Thanks again!!
Thanks for the garlic information. I think here in the high deserts of Utah, we need to plant them deeper so they don’t freeze during the winter. I’m going to look it up. Thanks for the reminder!
I’m in zone 9a just north of Houston. I need help pls. Tried 2 years in a row with hardneck. In ground and in a raised bed. Refrigerated the bulbs then to a raised bed and they all split. In the ground and they came out looking like onions. Do they need manures? That was my next plan. Been using organic soil.
Hi, I have a green stalk and wondered if I could use that to grow my garlic. I have 30 pockets and would put just one in each. I know this has to be done in the fall, I live in NJ, but once it's planted, what do I cover each opening with and does it get watered? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.
I’m in west Texas and we have the worst weather here I’m in the midland/Odessa area. Would hard neck do well in my zone and should I plant them in October too? Thank you so much!
I live in Texas and am trying to figure out growing seasons here. Im from Montana so it’s a lot different. The Texas Ag site says garlic isnt recommended here. So I have no idea when in the year this can be grown. Please advise. Thanks
It just means letting the leaves and stem dry to a point that they shrink down and create a protective outer shell. We did several videos on harvesting and curing. Here is one: th-cam.com/video/4IR0wkTXeHQ/w-d-xo.html
I'm in Louisiana. It was warm last October so I started in January but started mine in the fridge for a while and then planted. It's soft-neck. When should I expect a harvest?

You're welcome. It has worked well for us. I only had to buy garlic once because it multiplies so quickly.
In Texas, they have organic garlic at HEB too! They are in little green netted bags.
That is my favorite grocery store chain.
Any food with garlic is good food!
Absolutely!
I planted my organic garlic in the garden mid October so I'm so looking forward to July! 😊
Awesome!
I gotta research if garlic will grow in Michigan due to the freezing winters
Yes I was told by our county Master Gardeners that Hardneck garlic grows well here in zone 9a.
Absolutely
I’m in zone 9A too but the weather here is horrible (im in west Texas)….
Great info.Have a good rest of the week.
Thanks Jim. Same to you.
Exactly the info I was looking for!
Thank you so much!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Which month is it best to plant garlic cloves to get big garlic bulbs??
It depends on your zone. In our zone, 8b, we plant in October.
What month in the fall do you plant your garlic?
October
What is the curing process?
We have done a few videos on that. Here is the latest.....th-cam.com/video/p9_k97knXKE/w-d-xo.html
I know I will need to plant in the fall for good bulbs, but I’m going to plant some now for the green tops which are also delicious .
Cool
Best choice is Organic 👍👍
Absolutely!
Great video! Thanks for sharing🤙
Thank you
Greetings from Poolville Tx. Just planted our Elephant Garlic........
Awesome!

You're welcome.
I live in DFW and I'm so surprised that garlic should be planted in the fall. Is Oct the best time? Before a freeze?
October is best. I will be harvesting in about 2 to 3 months
@@CountryLivingExperience fascinating! I will be sure to start mine then. Thank you!
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Love your Greenhouse
Thank you
Thank you! I will definitely try the store bought stuff. I almost decided not to but maybe if I get it in this weekend it would still be ok.
You're welcome. That will still be ok depending on where you live and your climate.
@@CountryLivingExperience We are on the outskirts of San Antonio. 🤠 We straddle the line of 8b and 9a.
@@trainingolives3370 Totally ok. You have plenty of time.

They don't need manure, just a good soil. I have never heard of putting them in the refrigerator.
My camera hates me😫😫🤣🤣i feel that😂
Nothing clear for me😂
thanks
You’re welcome
Hello just wondering as I am also in zone 8b lower Alabama, when do you plant your garlic bulbs? Is early august to soon? Thanks for all your help!
Hello. We usually plant them in October for a June harvest.
@@CountryLivingExperience oh ok well I will wait to do garlic in October then. Do you have any favorites for planting in August in zone 8b?
The only thing we can plant since it is so hot are southern peas. In lat September, I will plant some winter crops.

You really need the cloves to grow the garlic. I am unfamiliar with growing it in your climate in terms of timing, etc.
Hi, I have a shady area will the garlic do well in shade? What about watering?
It honestly depends on how shady it is. It is in shade all day long, half day, etc. It should be fine in partial shade.
Does anyone know if “Auerpak” Organic Garlic is soft or hard neck?
Thank you!!
You're welcome
I’m in west Texas and we have the worst weather here I’m in the midland/Odessa area. Would hard neck do well in my zone and should I plant them in October too? Thank you so much!
It should do ok. You will have to experiment though. Yes, I would start it in October.
So you plant it during fall? What about in CO Where we get snow. Would the garlic survive the winter?
Yep. Survives perfectly fine under the snow.
@@CountryLivingExperience thank you. I didn't know this at all. I have some growing in my pantry right now but it's too late to plant it outside now.

Garlic (hardneck) does incredibly well here. I always have success. I plant in October for a June harvest.
@@CountryLivingExperience thank you for responding. And the videos
@@robertharris4661 You're welcome
So plant in fall September here in zone 8b
You can but October is better
Wow thanks for answering so fast 👍
What about watering after planting it
Normal watering. 1” per week
my spring garlic turns out ok
Does garlic need a very sunny spot, or does it tolerant part shade?
Garlic does best in full sun.
Where are you located?
In the video, if you watched the entire video, he mentions he's in Texas Zone 8b.
It doesn't necessarily have to be organic. Some of the normal garlic I've seen at stores including Walmart is USA grown.
Can I grow it in the house infront of window? I have no yard.
I am not sure that will work because garlic needs some temperature fluctuations to grow properly. You can surely try and see what happens.
From the surroundings around you, it looks like you’re in east Texas. Are you?
We are.
Where in Texas are you?
We are South of Tyler.
Every time I plant store bought veggies they don't produce.
Genetically modified. Any garlic in stores is bleached
The garlic should produce but to give yourself the best chance, buy the organic garlic.
@@tamera1919 not all you can turn it over and see if it's scraped out and real white if it has roots good
Organic, organic, organic, it doesn't make a difference they all are planted in dirt and benefits are exactly the same minus the price.
It isn't. Do your research.

I have just started bucket gardening and would to try garlic. I have heard of the terminology, ‘cure’, but what does that entail?
It just means letting the leaves and stem dry to a point that they shrink down and create a protective outer shell. We did several videos on harvesting and curing. Here is one: th-cam.com/video/4IR0wkTXeHQ/w-d-xo.html
Don't try to plant imported and irradiated garlic.
For sure. Organic locally grown only. I mentioned that.
👍🏻🙏🏻
Tip always buy non organic garlic from Indonesia grows better
Do the ants bother your garden? Your soil is literally moving
They do. It is tough to battle them.
I'm in Louisiana. It was warm last October so I started in January but started mine in the fridge for a while and then planted. It's soft-neck.
When should I expect a harvest?
My garlic usually takes 9 months. Yours may be done in September.
