'Sledging' is the act of trash talking. You are confusing it as the reply to the trash talk.

Virat doesn't trash talk but he's very aggressive on the field. Like with his facial expressions and body language, he's very animated and stuff but that's because he's very passionate about the game. He even kept playing when his father had passed away when he was in the under 19 indian team. That's the level of dedication he has towards cricket but he's the complete opposite of former captain Ms dhoni who was always called captain cool! He had his sly, calculative methods to win games. He hardly showed any reaction on his face. Win or lose. I like both of their approach to the game! Both work at some situations. They both are match winners and that's what we fans want india to win everytime. ♥️😍

Sledging is the action of disturbing the focus not necessarily just verbally. Revenge or reply to sledging is not called sledging it is just a reply

The Australians particularly were infamous for sledging, and it was always verbal actions people were referring to.
This is the worst compilation of sledging I've seen, poor video. Also, the narrator seemed so low on energy. There are wayyyy better videos out there on this. Btw don't complicate, sledging is exactly what you read in the beginning of the video. Nothing more, nothing less.

The sheer stupidity of sledging to Dravid is one of the ironical highlights of 90s cricket. As Brett Lee said "if you can't get along with Dravid, you are struggling in life" Also the Amir Sohail and Prasad encounter is what defines sledging in Cricket IMO.
aussies are known for sledging. the term literally exist because of them. it's in their cricketing culture where kids in cricket academies are taught what to say and when to say, right from the start.

This was nothing.
Cricket has always been considered a Gentleman's game, so normally whenever any player shows unnecessary aggression specifically directed at another player (be it stares or foul language or cocky replies) we would call it sledging. And a silent reply given through the play of the game is always considered a best reply to such aggression which reflects how a gentleman should react.
Sledging just means " provoking opponents in an aggressive manner" so that they would do something stupid in return due to anger. ( But in this video, it shows revenge moments means their reply was not stupid ie backfired )
Australians used to be scared to sledge Rahul "the wall" dravid because if he got serious he would then play a 30 balls of pure defense with the ball not going past the pitch
The bowler who actually managed to piss Dravid off should be commended for that rare cricket feat. Must be a record or something.

Your first thought was correct. Sledging is basically trash talking and more. It could be physical or verbal or even gestures. The whole point is to make your opponent lose concentration and make a mistake. It can also backfire which is what this video is about

Sledging is basically to break concentration of batsman if done by fielding team by raging them to play wrong shots or breaking rhythm of bowler if done by batsman by enraging them by joking or trash talk. It is very much part of longer format of cricket test cricket that require great mental stability as that is a 5 day cricket game.
