15 years ago I had my 3 year old son in the shop and had a freshly shaped blank on the racks. I had given Eli a piece of scrap foam and a file to mess around with. I had to turn my back for a moment to do something and when I turned back around, Eli had filed a big gank into the rail; probably 2 inches deep. I could only laugh. I fixed it and that board became a long time favorite.
+kazumasurfboards well, i cut my outlines straight up and down like you do.. but I like my chosen method because it work's well. I tried the method you show, but I think I could be holding saw wrong?
i think it it doesn't matter what techniques u use to make a good cut. what matters is that u develop the techniques + personal feel for it. one tough one r round nose design's. we have to first cut off a extra piece off the nose at angle as the saw bends too much to make the curve... then cutting straight is pie. :D
You are exactly right, the best way is the way that you master. That is exactly why I said "there is better, might be better ways to cut" because this is the way that my teacher taught me and I put the time into mastering his method and it has never failed me. I also have friends that hold the saw traditionally and do equally as perfect as I do. In the end there are a ton of different ways to get the same results.

Cool little helper
I jig saw mine. It's fast and I get it squared. When is she shaping hers?
I found the best way for myself is normal. like cutting lumber..
I bet you can be more accurate than I am. A good Carpenter is so good with a saw, I am a shaper that learned to use a saw....
