  • Grab yourself a brew and a biscuit, folks!
    This week we've filmed an instructional video for everyone who has been asking about how to go about setting up a brand new (or indeed, an older and dismantled-to-clean!) harness.
    In this video, Barry talks about each piece of the harness, where it goes and a little about what it does. In the next episode of this series, he will be showing you how to fit your laid-out harness to your pony. The willing model will be Toffee - who cameos in this video and will star in the training video at the end of this week, so watch out for him and his shiny new harness and carriage there!
    NB: We are not affiliated or advertising for Hartlands, it simply happened on this occasion that the new harness and carriage we had delivered to us had been bought by the owner from this particular company.

    Fabulous set of videos, I've watched all four, methinks I'll have to watch several times before I pluck up the courage to put our horse's harness on, going to buy it tomorrow 😊

    This is really informative. It's one thing to tack up a horse with a peice that is already put together, but when it comes like this in a box, to know how to put it all togeter corectly is a compleatly different story.
    Looking forward to the next one.

    Thanks for this, looking forward to the next ones. i still get confused when altering traces or breeching how it will affect other parts of the harness. Any chance you are planning a series of similar videos but for pairs harness. how to adjust coupling reins and trace length etc?

      We definitely can do - you're not the only person to ask, so hopefully we'll get around to it at some point!

      Yep, it's a Hartland Harness - we'll be fitting it to Toffee and then Toffee to his Hartland Carriage in the next couple of videos - Rhi :)

    Apart from the quickrelease snaps on the traces, some people here also put one between the backstrap and the saddle. Makes taking a cart off the horse in emergency (like in a ditch/water which we have plenty of here) much easier, breeching is often difficult to reach then. Snaps from the traces + saddle can have a rope to make opening them all easier in such an emergency. Run them up to the saddle and you only need te reach one fairly small area to seperate horse from cart.

    Barry seems like a really nice guy . So , lets see if we can keep him around for a while .
    Barry , loose over time , about 50 - 60 pounds off your front ! Your stomach should NOT be larger than a pony's .
    Good ! Their I have done a nice deed for the day ! Hello from Illinois !

    What brand and kind of harness do you prefer to use?

    • @barryhook2
      @barryhook2  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We use breast collar rather than full collar harness mostly - unless doing logging work etc. At the moment we have a lot of Hartland harness as we find it very hardwearing which is important for the job we do, but we also use Zilco and others.
