We had a black bear attack our two coops a week ago, killing 4 of 6 chickens. (Sniff. They were pets). The game warden recommended an electric fence at 2.5 and 4 feet heights. Your video is a great help in helping me visualize how I might set it all up. Thank you! Greetings from the U.S.!
Great video you have a beautiful place there our dogs or should I say one dog gets into our chicken coop if we are gone for very long this will be my next solution thanks for the video
Hi Hannah Mine is an Australian model (not sure where you are) that I got from my local ag store. I suggest checking out your local ag store but I can provide an Amazon link to a suitable mode if you are in the US?
I don't have experience with them, but will be considering it. My understanding is that most animals only get shocked once - and not like an electric chair or anything! (I think that is the fear from those that think it is cruel) - and that it actually doesn't hurt, but instead startles the person/animal that gets in contact. My understanding is it isn't even like household electric - which can sometimes prevent a person from releasing - but just makes a person/animal jump because they aren't expecting it.
Hi just wondering what wire are you using ? can I get this at Bunnings? and would you be able to run it more than once around the chicken coop at different heights?
Hi Sharon You can get it from bunnings yes (they keep it in the outdoor area usually, near gardening). Yes you can definitely run a few strands at different heights :) just run it along one way and then down/up and back in the other direction. As long as you don’t ground it, it will work fine :)
My chickens and ducks are desperate to get into our front yard that is overgrown at present. I’m wondering what the cost might be? At a guess, I probably have an area 4 times larger than yours. Can you give a rough estimate of what you think it would cost me, please?
Hi Cher This system is to keep dogs out not chickens in unfortunately. They do make an electric netting that can be used for chicken fencing. I have read good things but I’ve never used it sorry.
I've got a Basset hound I can't trust around my chickens so I understand. Meanwhile I'm considering installing an electric fence to protect my chickens from both predators and him.

Thank you :)

Hi! Looking to start my first chicken coop! Where did you find your charging box? Do you possibly have a link?

Thank you for sharing brother this very simple fence but its very good for small farming
Do you have any trouble with your earth ground with that post it's hooked to ?
No Clay I don’t. Have you had issues with star pickets?

No problem :) thanks for watching.
I am so sick of racoons and opossums killing my chickens! Thank you for these tips!
Linda Lockwood all the best with the chickens. Might need to do a few runs/levels for raccoons. They are pretty clever I hear!
My 4 great prynese sometimes sleep in the big chicken coop
That is awesome. My two are absolutely not livestock guardian dogs haha.

I hope the fence works for you Patricia :) thank you for sharing.
