  • Mary Earps MBE opens up about her childhood worries in a wide ranging interview, with a story she has never shared previously - her experiences of bullying when she first started secondary school.
Some children walk around with the weight of the world on their shoulders.
That’s why BBC Children in Need are launching ‘The Heaviest Backpack’ to show that these burdens, whether it’s anxiety or problems at home, can weigh children down and follow them everywhere.

Big ups to Earps speaking about this and her experience. Once it happens to you, you never really never forget the experience. I still remember mine. Tons of people even ending there lives due to bullying.

It can be devastating to be bullied as a kid. You feel trapped without any options to escape. I can certainly relate. I'm glad Mary overcame it and has become the amazing person she is.

Not only devastating as a child - but the experience of being bullied can have life long effects: not being able to form friendships or relationships, being withdrawn, not "taking part in life". Having been bullied at school I think the best way to overcome it is to learn some sort of fighting and not being afraid to use it if necessary. Nobody bullies a black-belt. Krav Maga, karate, boxing - they'd all be extremely useful. Learnt as a child those skills would serve you well throughout your life. Doing something like that would build large amounts of confidence too.

What Mary said there is very true, what she was saying about her life as a teenager and a young child when she was in school what she had to go through in school is so upsetting and when people say mean things to her is not right when you realise you don't know what they've been through over the years weather is it's in school or job 🤔😥❤

I have listened to, and taken in, what Mary said; I have made some unkind remarks about her in the past but, having seen her in a different light, I really think my apologies are warranted. The moral is, don't rush to judge.

i hate that she is getting so much hate now as well. what has she done to ever get hate now? the girl tries her best every single time because it’s her passion, she’s doing her utmost as a goalkeeper why does everyone get so triggered by it?

jealousy and misogynism. too many males are being allowed to attack her and womeens football because of their own insecurities and hatred for women

it is really heart-breaking bc she gives so much to the England and man utd squad and yet people are still hating on her, she is one of the strongest people I've known. she still has her moments but everyone does, she needs to know that all lioness and man utd fans appreciate how much she does for both

Hate? Not from anyone I respect. They all either adore or respect her.
      Anyone I don't respect doesn't count.

@@SimonDover i mean strangers online seem to bash her ability as a goalkeeper, they say she’s crap, and they’ve even gone as far as to hate on her clothing as well. it’s too much

    An important video.
The Lionesses are true role models for young girls. And Mary is the world's best goalkeeper.
There are girls who idolise her, who are going through this right now. And will see this.
