She was one of my favorite singers in the 70s. Her voice was magical. Tragically we lost her too soon, only 32.

Karen is simply amazing and Richard is an amazing arranger.

One of at least three Leon Russell songs Carpenters covered, two others being Superstar and This Masquerade. Karen's vocal lead on Superstar, which became a hit single, was not only a first take but the first time she had sung it, reading handwritten lyrics...

Their backup musicians were part of a group of some of the best studio session musicians called " the Wrecking Crew". I still feel a deep sense of sadness and longing along with enjoying the incredible music Karen and Richard made together. Karen's voice is a singularity, and I believe it is infinite. Thank you so much for your reaction to this song. It is my favorite song by the Carpenters.

The best female voice of all time. Unmatched for her tone, warmth and vocal range.
As of today, October 8, 2023, Richard Carpenter is working on a new studio album. This album will be her first solo recording since 1987's "Time Out of Mind." Carpenter has been working on the album for several years, and has been searching for a vocalist who can fill the void left by her sister Karen, who died in 1983.
In an interview with Billboard in 2022, Carpenter said that the album will have a sound similar to that of the Carpenters, but that it will also be an evolution of his sound. "It's still soft rock, but it's a little more modern," Carpenter said. "There's also a bit of experimentation."
Carpenter has not yet announced a release date for the album, but has said that he hopes it will be released in 2024.
In addition to his work on the new album, Carpenter is also working on a documentary about the life and career of the Carpenters. The documentary, which is being produced by the company "Greenwich Entertainment", will be released in 2024.
Carpenter also continues to tour and give concerts. In 2023, he toured the United States with singer-songwriter Michael Feinstein.
There is no voice today that compares to Karen Carpenter's. She was a unique musical genius in the world and goes far beyond her time. It without autotune or any other manipulation. Just her voice and her brother Richard's incredible arrangements. No current artist can match this in this era. Karen was also one of the best drummers of her time and she could sing well while she played the drums simultaneously. A true top talent. RIP Karen Carpenter, We will always remember you and love you!!! 💛💛💛

QEPD Karen Carpenter, ¡¡¡ Siempre te recordaremos y te querremos!!! 💛💛💛

Interesting you mention sax, suggesting you're noticing Carpenters' jazz influences. Richard and Karen, before becoming a vocal duo, were two thirds of an instrumental jazz trio, the Dick Carpenter Trio, which won the 1966 Hollywood Bowl Battle of the Bands in the jazz category. Karen was 16 then and was the trio's drummer. Some of their stuff is on TH-cam, at least in audio form. Karen might have been (and likely would rather have been) a career drummer, but that voice couldn't be hidden for long...

Absolutely one of my favorite Carpenters song. Her voice gives me chills on this one and the arrangement is beautiful. The final lyric is full of such poignancy since we lost her at such a young age.
So many wonderful songs from the Carpenters. Some of my favorites (that you've yet to react to) are Goodbye to Love, Solitaire, Desperado (a non-single on the Horizon album; actually pretty much anything off this album), Yesterday Once More, and If I Had You. Still you can't go wrong with any of the suggestions made the other comments either.

Another nice job Phil. Those lyrics written by Leon Russell, "I love you in a place where there's no space and time, I love you for my life, you are a friend of mine". So touching and Karen sings them with perfection. Hearing it still touches my soul and pulls at my heartstrings 50 years later! Lost that beautiful woman and ANGELIC voice way too soon. RIP KAREN.

Suggested it on another reaction just before this one, Philip, but will leave it here too: I Can Dream Can't I, a cover of a 1938 Sammy Fain ballad standard, orchestrated by bandleader Billy May, from the 1975 Carpenters album Horizon. It is one of the great tragedies of popular music history that Karen recorded so few big band era standards...
