- Here I reveal the pre-release of my enriched version of the Opera Graeca Adnotata (OGA), a classical Greek language corpus of 40M+ tokens curated by Guiseppe Celano at Uni Leipzig. My transformed OGA makes it quickly accessible in CoNNL-U format from a Github repo and facilitates a wide range of use cases for general readers and scholars.
A Jupyter Notebook running Python code serves to illustrate some potential ways to access and use this corpus. For today's exercise, the focus is a stylistic and thematic comparison of the writings of Hippocrates and Galen, the two most prolific medical authors in antiquity.
Apologies to viewers for several slip ups in my running commentary on math calculations, author names, and TLG author ids. Makes for good comedy fodder, or an audience challenge (find all the mistakes, if you can!). ;-)
Apologies also for the low volume level. This was my first time using new recording software; the volume level wasn't what I expected. Please be encouraged to turn the volume up as loud as you can handle or wear headphones.
If you're as troubled as I am by the lack of public access to modern English translations of ancient OBGYN medical texts, please be encouraged to donate generously to the Perseus Project and earmark the funds for digitization and/or rights negotiation to Hippolytus vol. 9 of the Loeb Classical Library.
