As others have mentioned, he has not made a song for “Johnny,” yet. However, Nate has said that he will need Anger’s (personified) help, when he does make that song. This is why he hasn’t buried Anger, yet. Anger still lives in the basement.
I've always loved that last line. "I'll be here for you if things get worse." It's a very clever way of saying he doesn't commit suicide and give up, and I think it's beautiful
@@marianneatdanishlivingSorry for the late reply! Nate is writing a song and singing to his younger self. The fact that he is able to do that and say "I'm here for you" means that he kept going and didn't give up and got to where he is now. Hopefully that made sense!
Something I just noticed during this reaction. He says, "that's why I'm always looking down on you I know it hurts" in let you down it's his older self looking down at his younger self. Neat connection.
He hasn’t done the song about Johnny yet. He may never release it. The interesting thing about the Search album is that he reached a lot of his career goals with Perception, like going triple platinum with Let You Down, but it didn’t truly make him happy. It didn’t fill that void in his soul that he thought it would. So that spun him in to a deep depression. That’s what the Search album is really about. Him “searching” to understand what is actually going to make him happy.
I know this isn't related to your original comment but just wanted to share who much more that specific track is still a powerful track even years later... "Let You Down" has gone 7x platinum, the last time I checked & it's been a while since I last checked.
HE CRIED AT THE END OF THIS SONG WHEN I SAW HIM LIVE. i lost it. we all did. this mans SAVED MY LIFE and i wish there was a way that i can repay him for it. i said it once and i’ll keep saying it, jack harlow, motionless in white, panic! and nate have been the best concert experiences i’ve even been part of
I wish there was a collection of these interviews of him talking about these songs us newer fans could watch. I have been listening to NF for a few years now but never seen any of these interviews people talk about.
After Perception, Nate got suicidal and had to reach out for help. He got help for his anxiety/depression and found out about his OCD. This was him talking to his younger self which was part of his therapy turned into song. You will begin to notice a vast improvement as we go along. The Clouds Mixtape even has playful moments. I'm so glad Nate shares his life with us! #NF 😎
The line about being scared around intoxicated people hit really close to home for me. I grew up around drunks and druggies and it gave me most of the trauma that i have now. So now when ever I am around drunk people or even people that are drinking I get terrified thinking they will hurt me. I understand NF with that on another level.
Eric, so I paid close attention during this reaction about how you were saying like you had thoughts about feeling alone and being the only one who felt that way. NF has a song called “Only One” give it a listen. I know you guys finished the album but maybe on your own listen to it. It really hits home especially if anyone who feels alone in this world, this song among so many, shows us we aren’t. Good job guys. 🖤
As a person who's been struggling with anxiety and depression for years.. Man.. this entire album honestly changed my life in a very, very positive way.. and I'm sure I'm not the only one (as he mentioned in his other track Just Like You in his CLOUDS mixtape) I never knew I would find an artist that I could literally relate to so, so much. Pure gold. This song is just so REAL and RAW. Even though he's a multimillionaire, I honestly just wish the best for him.
We NF fans don't mind if you pause 20 times bc we love when ya'll talk about what you heard or saw on the video ! Great reaction as always !! #ItsRealMusicTillTheDayWeDie #RRFam
This song's intro and outro of the low key audio of his family singing happy birthday to "Nathan" to me makes this a masterpiece… he was birthed into this path that he is literally narrating the benchmarks from the 6 year old start of memories and struggles till the moment he recorded this song. Amazing. … Thanks as always for the reaction fellas!
This is a therapy technique. It is highly likely that his therapist told him to write a note to his younger self and then dispose of it or burn it. It's freeing. It allows you to face your past and to take ownership over it and to forgive what you were powerless to change. We're fortunate enough that NF gave us pieces of that letter in his outlet, music. Another great reaction Gentleman!
This is one of those songs that I've always related most to. The looking back and wishing I had a way to tell myself things are going to only get harder before they ease up. Gotta take the bad with the good and keep trucking. The 'i know you've been questioning life' line always hurts because I know me in the past would just be so upset that I'm even still here, so seeing that others look back and can have that same feel is always a sobering feeling, knowing I'm not alone. I can't credit Nate enough for opening up the world to show I'm not the only one that's feeling this shit, like I know I'm not that special 😂 but him being so open opened so many doors for me
My therapist had me write a letter to my younger self as part of treatment. It's part of the healing process and I was blown away with this song. 💜💜💜 As far as I know, he hasn't released a song about Johnny yet.
This song has been the hardest hitting song besides trauma since it's came out for me the relatability in it has me in tears almost everytime I hear it
One - I discovered you guys when we discovered Ren together. Two, more recently, I found NF through you. You are such genuine, down to earth men, and I can definitely tell you are brothers. You are, hands down, my favourite reactors.
Nate's music does seem to hit many of us hard. Especially us who had trauma in our childhood. I lost my mom also in a similar way to Nate. Also dealt with abuse and I know when I first discovered him it was Mansion and it felt like a ton of bricks hit me. As if someone had put all my inner thoughts and feelings in a song for all to hear. It was a profound moment for me and I have been listening to him ever since. With Nate you will have a lot of moments like that where it hits you hard because he has the talent to say all the things we can't seem to get out of us.
Hey guys! I forgot to comment on changes, but you guys did do a wonderful job with that one as always. But this one. Im so happy you all picked up on the track 4 reference. As I said in 'How could you leave us' and 'remember this' this one isn't nearly as emotional but the content contained within the lyrics just paints a vivid enough picture to make the listener (i.e me) think on their own life and how they would handle that scenario. 10/10 reaction as usual guys. Up next you guys have banger after banger to get through.
Hey Kyle✌🏻Hey Eric✌🏻Just wanted to say I’m glad you took this journey & I’m glad I’m taking the ride…i can see how NF has helped you both self reflect on your own lives. I feel like you are giving yourselves permission to feel on the outside what you have always felt on the inside…It can be very liberating! NF has helped me to see, that others think & feel like I do…He’s like a form of therapy to me. Im glad you have each-other to lean on! ✌🏻☀️
One of the really cool things is when he preforms Nate in concert, he sets 2 stools across from each other and he sits on one and he is talking to the other empty stool as if young Nate would be sitting there. One of my favorite NF songs.
that song spoke to eric. his demeanor the whole time was just s feeling of connecting. Feel like this video resignated with you brother. keep up the good work guys.
Eric, I'm not sure if someone has already made this connection for you, but his full name is, Nathan John Feuerstein. A lot of people believe when he mentions Johnny he is referring to himself in the third person, but the angry version of himself. Hence the lines in Intro III when he says, "wrote a song for Johnny without you / But he ain't goin' like it, let's see how he takes it / He probably don't even remember us, does he? / I wish I was burying anger / But both of us know I'ma need him for that song, he still lives in the basement" In this theory his angry self "Johnny" isn't going to like NF's reflection of him. Then he says, "I wish I was burying anger". So, Johnny might not be the name of the boyfriend, but rather the angry version of himself that he became because of the abuse in the basement. The other theory is that it's simply the name given to one of his mom's boyfriends as you mentioned who possibly abused him. Both could be a possibility! Kyle, get to feeling better!
WOW!!!!! For the whole 2 years since I first heard this song, all the time I have thought "Johnny" was mom's boyfriend. THIS makes SO MUCH SENSE!!! 🤯🤯🤯
I discovered you guys just a minute ago. I was laughing my ass off watching your Electric Callboy reaction and needless to say, I'm sobbing with this one. You've earned a sub! I love how NF rephrases the naive saying, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger", by saying "Everything that breaks you down can also build your character". Let's be honest, things can happen that scar you forever or even mess you up long-term like abuse, loss, accidents, etc. Those traumas don't necessarily give you strength, but definitely shape your character in both good and bad ways. Great content!
You guys keep saying “I kept feeling like I was the only one”. I really hope that the song “only” is on yalls Journey. It’s an absolute banger and shows you a lot his mental stability at the time. Great reaction again, fellas!
This one really hit hard, along with a lot of his other songs for sure, I do this a lot throughout my life picturing my younger self and think about what I would say. Cause I remember what I wanted my future to be like when I was a kid. NF really has gotten me through all of my dark times since I discovered his music. It’s so crazy how much so many people can relate to his music. Really like your videos guys. Really appreciate seeing how you have been going through the NF journey. After this I hope we see more reactions of his other music.
I know it's been months since you guys reacted to this so I don't know if someone else has pointed it out or if you guys already know, but the audio in the background at the beginning and end of the song is actually from a recording of people singing Happy Birthday to him as a kid. If you listen you can hear them singing the, "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Nathan" and everything
The line about the boyfriends hits home. My mom dated 2 guys at different times and at one point they snorted a line of crack off the toilet while we were in the next room. Needless to say, they didn’t stick around.
You know what’s a trip about Nate. This song for example isn’t a song you would bump in your car at 11, it’s a song you’re gonna sit in your car after you get home and listen by yourself and literally make you dissect your life and just realize this man is an artist and an unlicensed therapist lol.
This is by far my favorite reaction you guys have done. Eric, I don't know what's going on/happened in your life, but I hope finding NF will bring you some understanding of tough emotions, hopefully leading to more peace for you.
nf is a freaking magician! he paints an amazingly vibrant and detailed picture but he also lets the listener imagine it in their head and connect to it how they want. so good 🔥🔥
It is funny how they even notice NFs „Layers“ yet, but little do they know yet still. Also about „trauma“... I love your reactions... great, genuine reactions. Thx for your braveness to share your emotions aswell
@Rykerroad Another great reaction!!! Kyle, I hope you feel better! I honestly cannot WAIT to see ya'll react to: - Prideful - Clouds - Lost - Like This - Layers Absolutely love you guys!
I love that we speak of albums like they’re movies with what happened or may happen. That is one of the most unique parts of NF. I’ve never listed to albums where I was like “Oh, he wasn’t introduced until the 3rd album”. 😂. He’s about the only artist I’ve ever called a genius
there is no song for johnny as far as I know.. I don't know if there ever will be. I personally don't think Nate will waste his energy on it... stay blessed bro's!
One of my favorite. Who can't relate to this? That part about the trauma hits me deep. He's a genius. Period. I'm waiting for you guys to say he's the GOAT. 🎃 Oh ya. He hasn't made a song about Johnny yet but he said he's going to in intro 3 think who knows if he ever will. Intro 3 and outro will blow your mind. I think intro 3 is the best song ever recorded. And outro brings it all together
He had to write a letter to six year old self for Thearpy. The live concert he sits across from an empty chair. The beginning is him watching home movies. You can hear "happy birthday " in the background.
This is art... watching your faces change at 'just those times' made me feel like I am looking in a mirror, lol. This one was simply genius... and I believe something he wrote while in therapy.
I like to think that his lyrics to this song, Remember This and If You Want Love are his wisdom he has gained over the years that he is leaving to his future kids to "Break the cycle"
Nate's middle name is John and it seems to me like in Let You Down.... Nate deals with the 'perception of the abuse and the abuser... I also get that 'HERE"S JOHNNY!" The Shining vibe as the little boy Nate was approached by the drunk boyfriend coming downstairs to beat NF till he 'screamed and he cried'... so Nathan John... (wonder if the abuser even refered to Nate as Johnny to torment him even) hence Nate may have a concern he will repeat those actions as he goes through adulthood dealing with the anger and trauma becoming the very thing he was always avoiding? ;)
Idk if it's been brought up {more than likely it has} but I just wanted to suggest that when you both reach "Hate Myself" it's very helpful & important to listen to the previous track "Interlude" 1st. "Interlude" is a short clip of him explaining how he had successfully achieved his goals for his career but how he was at his lowest moments mentaly.
I'd agree, not my favorite stylistically, but still a song I love listening to because of the incredible message. This one hits me emotionally in a lot of ways.
He's yet to release a song about 'Johnny' ...remember in 'Intro III'..he said something about not really burying anger because he'll need it for the song he'll release about Johnny...
I wonder if we will still get the song about Johnny since this new album is about Hope. Even in the song Hope, he said, "I spent years of my life holdin on to things I never should've kept, full of hatred"... but it didn't say he did let go of anger so maybe we will on the next album after Hope
He didn't release a song about jonny yet, there are some speculations that he will drop it when he reaches the peak of his career because he wants to let everbody hear what jonny has done to Nate. Maybe on album 6?
In the first verse he said he wished he could find a time machine and go back talk to himself when he was 6 years old. The whole song is him talking to 6 year old Nate.
Dude I subscribe to you guy's awhile back! I love the combo of hip hop and metal! Because I truly love all music! But y'all reactions to the video's. Is real! That's why I subbed! You guy's have grown a lot since then! And you deserve it! The tracks you pick out are original! They're controversial! Love the mix! Keep up the good work! And hope to see you guy's hit a million subs!👊😎💯🤪
Awesome reaction and cover of the track, per usual. I don’t believe it’s on the NF journey but just one of his separate songs, but my very favorite song from NF is Dreams and I think you guys would really like that one if it’s something you haven’t listened to as much. If you would, please react to NF Dreams 😊
Hey guys in the beginning of the song if you listen closely you can hear people singing happy birthday dear nathan. maybe you caught it but just thought I'd mention it.
As others have mentioned, he has not made a song for “Johnny,” yet. However, Nate has said that he will need Anger’s (personified) help, when he does make that song. This is why he hasn’t buried Anger, yet. Anger still lives in the basement.
This ⬆️⬆️⬆️
I have a feeling that will be in the new album which I hope is out soon, been desperate for some new nf songs
Yes would be great 👍 if that was on new album
some say it was Paid my Dues since He was in the basement for that video

I don’t even know what to say about this dude anymore. He’s just amazing.
We share a name and we share traumas. Love NF and you both, thank you for all you do and share.
Great reaction. There is no song about his abuser yet. You guys will like I Miss the Days
Nate's middle name is John and it seems to me like in Let You Down....
Nate deals with the 'perception of the abuse and the abuser... I also get
that 'HERE"S JOHNNY!" The Shining vibe as the little boy Nate was approached
by the drunk boyfriend coming downstairs to beat NF till he 'screamed and he cried'...
so Nathan John... (wonder if the abuser even refered to Nate as Johnny to torment him even)
hence Nate may have a concern he will repeat those actions as he goes through adulthood
dealing with the anger and trauma becoming the very thing he was always avoiding? ;)
Wow! Never even connected this before! I think you are on to something.
Wow ... & this is why I love NF fans bc we can point out things from past songs, connect things etc
NF is a modern day prophet. PERIOD
I'd agree, not my favorite stylistically, but still a song I love listening to because of the incredible message. This one hits me emotionally in a lot of ways.
‘Nate’ is one of my top 3 vying for first place
That song I so related to also my god i got goosebumps
The Eminem refrence at the very beginning was funny as hell. Eric talking about "where's my snare. I need more snare in my headphones."
Nate is so good in painting pictures with his words
First time I heard this I was wrecked. What a concept for a song!
I love your NF reactions I look forward to them you guys are the best
Omg yes yous reacted to it 🥰🥰🥰
He's yet to release a song about 'Johnny' ...remember in 'Intro III'..he said something about not really burying anger because he'll need it for the song he'll release about Johnny...
#NFREALMUSIC 🔥
I wonder if we will still get the song about Johnny since this new album is about Hope. Even in the song Hope, he said, "I spent years of my life holdin on to things I never should've kept, full of hatred"... but it didn't say he did let go of anger so maybe we will on the next album after Hope
I’m a 51 year old man and can’t listen to this song without crying. I think it gets harder every time I hear it.
You guys are awesome, Love from Dubai 😀
Nate is a song that he wrote while in actual therapy after a breakdown that took place after touring.
I feel like, after a lot of NF tracks, we just need a hug
Dude I subscribe to you guy's awhile back! I love the combo of hip hop and metal! Because I truly love all music! But y'all reactions to the video's. Is real! That's why I subbed! You guy's have grown a lot since then! And you deserve it! The tracks you pick out are original! They're controversial! Love the mix! Keep up the good work! And hope to see you guy's hit a million subs!👊😎💯🤪
Hope you feel better Kyle. (pretending like this is today) I'm sure you're fine now. lol
Interesting how you reference cleaning out my closet and this song is kind of doing that
Awesome reaction and cover of the track, per usual.
