This is my favorite Christmas movie and the best version of The Christmas Carol. Michael Caine playing a serious Scrooge, even in the presence of all those Muppets, is absolutely spectacular. Happy Holidays to you and your family Kazzy!

I love how Michael Caine first reveals his face to the camera at 6:56; turning to scare away the crowd with a "YOU WHAT, MATE?!" kind of look. It's definitely realistic; if Michael Caine turned and gave _me_ that look, I'd be getting out of there myself!
He probably had a blast with this movie when compared to something like Jaws 4 the Revenge. Seriously, best part of that movie was Michael Caine's understated "Oh, shit." when he saw he was about to be eaten by the shark.

As for The Muppet Christmas Carol, Michael Caine's described it as one of his most memorable performances, and I agree. So amazing how he played the role so seriously and effectively despite constantly being surrounded by outlandish puppets.

This is the first Muppet movie made after Jim Henson's death. In this movie and in every subsequent Muppet movie there is a a scene with a shooting star, which is meant as a tribute to Jim. (In this one, it comes after the song One More Sleep 'Til Christmas.)
There's a song cut from the wide-screen home release called "The Love Is Gone," sung by Belle. It's also why Rizzo is sobbing inconsolably, not just because they broke up.
It gets a reprise at the very end as "The Love We Found," which is why it comes out of no where if you haven't seen the extended version.
One to add to your list: While You Were Sleeping with Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman. It's a sweet comedy, but it portrays loneliness and the longing to belong just perfectly. Oh, and my favorite version of A Christmas Carol is Scrooge with Alastair Sim. Absolutely lovely.

Makes me think of my great-aunt every time I hear it, only hers wasn't about ducks.
When she and her husband went to caravan parks, they always went up the back so nobody could park behind them. When she died, she was buried up the back of the cemetery so nobody could park behind her. My great-uncle was buried in the same plot a few years later, so now they're both up the back where they wanted to be. And nobody has been able to "park" behind them because they can't expand the cemetery that way.

I adore The Muppet Christmas Carol. The story is that Michael Caine was eager do to it but said listen: if I do this, you're getting a genuine portrayal of Scrooge. Do whatever you want with the muppets and other characters, make whatever jokes you want, but there won't be any winks or silly humor from my portrayal. Part of what makes this version so effective.
Oh, and if you're going to watch the "A Christmas Story" sequel, make sure it's the brand-new "A Christmas Story Christmas" out this year on HBO Max. Because there are other "sequels" and related spin-offs over the years that are somewhat less-than-recommended 😏
Of course, in the real story it was just Jacob Marley. The addition of Robert Marley was nice joke though. Bob Marley. 🎵Don't worry. Be happy. 🎵
LOL hardly anyone notices the very obscure joke about jacob marley's brother being called "bob" marley. Also at the end during scrooges' thankful heart song, there's a little shop in the background called Micklewhites - Maurice Micklewhite is michael cains' real name.
never get bored of this movie. Michael Caine insisted that the only way he'd play Scrooge was if he pretended like the Muppets were real people and that he was acting in the Royal Shakespeare Company
It's one of my top five favorite Christmas movies of all time and it's definitely my favorite Muppet movie.

One of my top five favorite adaptations of A Christmas Carol, and one of the most heartwarming Muppet films. It's funny that because I first saw it many a time on vhs, I didn’t find out the song, When Love is Gone was deleted from the film until I got the dvd when I was in my twenties, and I was not happy to learn of the song’s deletion. It has therefore made me so happy to see that as of this month, Disney+ has available to stream the full and complete version of this movie.
There is a version of a Christmas Carol you need to see if you haven't yet. You don't need to do a reaction just see it for yourself. An American Christmas Carol. Henry Winkler is in it. It follows the same form but yet is very different. It is my favorite. Have a Merry Christmas.

The last video of yours that i watched was of you explaining various events in your life and your medical issues. Needless to say, i was extremely happy to have this video pop up and see you smiling and laughing. While it might not physically heal you much, laughter DOES do wonders for you soul and mental health. HUGE virtual hugs for you from The Heart of Texas!
I know it's been said before, but the decision by then Walt Disney chairman, future DreamWorks CEO and known bagpipe head Jeffrey Katzenberg to cut out the "When Love Is Gone" scene was very contentious. He genuinely tried to argue that it was too depressing for a Muppets film, even though it's imperative to Ebenezer Scrooge's redemption. Needless to say that Sir Michael Caine and Meredith Braun, who had done their own singing by the way, were really upset and director Brian Henson was extremely upset. And for the longest time, there wasn't a decent quality version of it, with the only known widescreen version available being on the Laser Disc release. Finally, in 2022, just in the nick of time for the 30th anniversary of "The Muppet Christmas Carol", they found some negatives of the "When Love Is Gone" scene and have not only added it as a bonus feature, but have also allowed for the director's cut where you can see it in the film as originally intended.

This is the first Christmas film I watch every year. Such a great film and my favorite adaptation of the story.
I find this far better than Disney's version with Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, even though I saw it as a child (it was a double bill at the cinema with 'The Jungle Book).
Cherish your time with your dad. This was the first Christmas I had without mine (He passed away back in January after battling Parkinson's)
If you haven't yet, you have to consider checking out the Dark Crystal prequel on Netflix. It's an incredible epic fantasy production that overflows with the stellar craft you'd expect from the Jim Henson crew. Tragically underappreciated despite the great critic reviews (and winning an Emmy award). It's a damn shame how under the radar it is, otherwise I'd selfishly beg you to react to it!

Don't get me wrong, I like this version of the Christmas Carol and hold it's position second best of all it's iterations. But I maintain that George C. Scott was the best Scrooge.

Great reaction! Whenever Gonzo-- excuse me, whenever Mr Dickens goes into narrator mode, he's quoting directly from the book. The full version with the missing song is on Disney Plus, but they've hidden it in the extras for some reason.
I would say that it surprising that you have not seen this but given the fact that there are two other people that I follow on TH-cam that just watched this for the first time this year, it is understandable how someone could miss this seminal classic. And I say seminal classic because apparently this is the most accurate adaptation of the original Dickens book that's out there which is rather astonishing considering it's the friggen Muppets. I first saw this around 1995 after my second step grandmother( the mother of Mom's second husband) had it at her place. I unabashedly love this version of the story. Everything from the embracing of the Macabre elements from the novel, to the music, to the casting, to the Muppet zaniness brought to you this time by Rizzo and Gonzo playing themselves(more or less as Gonzo is playing narrator/ Dickens). Everything to me is just pitch perfect and there is a reason why this film is so highly regarded after 30 years. Also not only is this the 30th anniversary but they actually released the extended edition of this film this year(long story)

If your open to suggestions Kazzy, I’ve always been fond of Truman Capote’s A Christmas Memory. It takes place in rural Alabama during the Great Depression between an old lady, and Capote as A young boy, and how they celebrate Christmas when there’s no money to be had.

One of the most amazing things about The Muppet Christmas Carol movie is that the costumes are some of the most accurate ever made for a period piece, including on the muppets! They went all out on the accuracy and the research, and the results are stunning! It's my favorite Christmas movie, and we watch it every year on Christmas Eve!

It's weird how they cut out Belle's song on Disney+ because Disney thought it was too depressing. When their's plenty of other depressing scenes in this one. lol
Not just Disney +, it was cut from the theatrical release and only showed up on VHS and some early DVD releases. Then it was lost for years
