Oachira Kali 2024 - ഓച്ചിറക്കളി 2024

A temple without a definite layout or idol of worship, the Oachira Temple situated near the National Highway connecting Kollam and Alappuzha districts is well renowned for its festival - the Oachira Kali. Here, the whole concept of worship revolves around the Parabrahma or the universal consciousness. It is this uniqueness that makes this temple stand apart from the rest.
The highlight of the festival, at this temple, is the mock battle between two groups, to the sound of drums, in a waterlogged field called padanilam. This battle commemorates the historic battle, fought between the erstwhile Kayamkulam and Ambalapuzha kingdoms. The event features boys and men, split in two groups, who jump into the field, to engage in a mock battle. In this mock battle, sticks replace swords and the participants splash muddy water at each other.
The festival is held on the first two days of the Malayalam month of Mithunam (Mid June).
പടനിലം എന്ന വെള്ളക്കെട്ടുള്ള വയലിൽ താലപ്പൊലിയിൽ രണ്ട് സംഘങ്ങൾ തമ്മിലുള്ള കളിയാട്ടമാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഉത്സവത്തിൻ്റെ പ്രത്യേകത. ഈ യുദ്ധം പഴയ കായംകുളം, അമ്പലപ്പുഴ രാജ്യങ്ങൾ തമ്മിൽ നടന്ന ചരിത്രപരമായ യുദ്ധത്തെ അനുസ്മരിക്കുന്നു. ഈ പരിപാടിയിൽ ആൺകുട്ടികളും പുരുഷന്മാരും രണ്ട് ഗ്രൂപ്പുകളായി പിരിഞ്ഞ് കളത്തിലേക്ക് ചാടുന്നത് പരിഹാസയുദ്ധത്തിൽ ഏർപ്പെടുന്നു. ഈ പരിഹാസയുദ്ധത്തിൽ, വടികൾ വാളുകളെ മാറ്റിസ്ഥാപിക്കുകയും പങ്കെടുക്കുന്നവർ പരസ്പരം ചെളിവെള്ളം തെറിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
മലയാള മാസമായ മിഥുനത്തിലെ (ജൂൺ മധ്യത്തിൽ) ആദ്യ രണ്ട് ദിവസങ്ങളിലാണ് ഈ ഉത്സവം നടക്കുന്നത്.
