I have been friends of this family for years, Jake was like a second father to me, but I never knew he was on Iwo Jima or was injured. I also served in the Marine Corps, which makes this extra special for me. Congratulations Marine, welcome to the Brotherhood, it's an honor knowing your Grandfather, Semper Fi.
It's a pride that will stay with you for your life. I was in the Marine Corps from 5 October 1973 until 4 October 1977. Still proud to this day..Semper Fi from an old Marine Sgt.
When I was in Co. A, 1/2 a group of WWII vets came to visit us. One of them yelled, "Where is the third squad leader in second platoon?" Thinking to myself, (WTF, that's me?), but I answered, "Here sir!" He came up and shook my hand, slapped me on the shoulder and asked, "So how is the squad?" "Excuse me?" I stammered. He chuckled a little bit and said, "How is the squad? I haven't seen them since I was wounded on Tarawa." I smiled and laughed a little bit, but finally said, "Well, the roster has a changed a little bit, but we are all good." He got a real kick out of that and then proceeded down the line shaking hands and greeting each member of the squad. Legacy!
You should have said, “we’ve been a man short for a while... we’ve been holding your spot for you. Welcome back, now fall in! (Then shouting to the group) somebody get this Marine his rifle and some cammies!!!” Lol would have been great to see the look on his face! Hahahaha
Hey that’s us my platoon 3038 we just graduated may 17 yannoff was a great guy we were wondering why a guy was following him with a camera through the whole crucible god bless ya senior yannoff semper fi-Pfc Fulton
That's something to be proud of. I was just the opposite, several cousins were in the US Army in Vietnam, my Dad was a US Army Ranger Korean War, his brother US Army during WW-2 at the Battle of the Bulge, my Grandfather in WW-1 US Army, in France. So I had to be different, I joined the United States Marine Corps, in 1973. When my dad, uncles and grandfather were living, I was the only one cheering for the Navy during the annual Army-Navy Game. Semper Fi from an old Marine Sgt.
Unfortunately we lost another American Hero of WW2, Jake passed away yesterday at the age of 97, may you rest in peace Jake, Im sure Rita was waiting for you. Much Love, Semper Fi Marine. 😢
Good luck. It's a pride that will stay with you for life, I'm now 64byrs old. I served from 5 October 1973 until 4 October 1977. Semper Fi from an old Marine Sgt.
How can Mattis give leadership lessons? Soldiers/marines/sailors/fliers and coastguard personnel always obey their superior officers. Mattis didn't and left a bad impression.

Agreed Mattis may have been a good General. But, a lousy Sec. Of Defense.
