Hi Jason, I was pondering over this very kit last weekend in Wirral Model Shop, but resisted temptation. It looks like a very nice kit, thanks for in-depth first impressions. Have a great day, Dom
A quick heads up. By all accounts the bomb bay roof and bulkheads need trimming a bit to enable the fuselage halves to close up properly. Probably best to tackle that issue right at the start of the build.
I've Built 3 shacks (two Airfix & 1 Revell), my biggest piece of advice - is don't buy an interior PE set as you can't see it, but invest in a masking set. Dry fitting is a must.
Yes, that is definitely Gibraltar 🇬🇮. I don’t know what your preference is regarding interior detail, personally I like to have a detailed interior because that is what the real aircraft had/has, I want to do justice to the kit and the real aircraft, it doesn’t bother me that it would probably never see the light of day ever again but at least I know that I did do my best to represent the real aircraft, or whatever type of kit it might be.
It looks a very nice kit, I saw one for £5 in a charity shop, but I just don't have the room to build, paint and display something that large. For a deep and very readable insight into the Shackleton, I recommend the two volumes of 'Shackleton Boys' by Steve Bond.
With the greatest of respect, why didn't you just buy it anyway? It was a 'fiver'! You could have easily sold it on, assuming it was complete and unstarted, for more than you paid for it, whilst allowing you to purchase something more suitable for your needs. 🤔
@NickAndrewsFaulkner Hi Nick, that was not meant as a slight to you in any way. Thank you for your response and much respect to you for your honesty. 👍
@@markfranks1329 A pleasure to have civilised discussions on TH-cam, but that's scale modellers! Back to my 1/48 Tiger Moth and to rig, or not to rig, that is the question ...
@@NickAndrewsFaulkner The rigging of a biplane is always a cause of much consternation amongst modellers, myself included. There is a company by the name of SBS that offers a rigging set specially designed for the Airfix Tiger Moth. Perhaps that is something you might consider. Even if you elect against rigging your model, I believe you will still have a perfectly presentable replica of this iconic little biplane.

Thanks for this good first impressions. Those light grey and white paint schemes look really stylish.
Thanks for the review, I'm currently working on the uk manufactured aew version, which is made from a harder darker plastic.

Great review of a kit I would love to add to my stash. Maybe Telford will have one lurking in the shadows..?
Pity that they did not do it more recently, as it would of been great with the rivets, looking at the detail they Incorporated into the 1/48 Gannet

Contrast the weapons bay with the Gannet. Two torpedos is way to little compared to what would be carried.
Tengah should be at Singapore.
That music sounds a bit like Rush
I have the older version of the Shackleton, waiting to be assembled, as soon as I have enough space, it is too big.
