I’m a huge Michigan fan and I’m happy for Jim. He is a pro coach that has so much love for his school that he gave us 9 years that he never had to give. The Chargers are now my 2nd favorite pro team. GO LIONS!
Just as with top 10 players, there is a fine line between worst and first, top 10 coaches are the same. When you factor in all of the close calls, bad calls, injuries, luck, not to mention 31 other teams, trying to reach the summit, any one of those coaches/teams could make it to the promised land. That's what makes this game so much fun.
2029, a five year window for the best case scenario. Let fans around the league chew on that for awhile and digest it while considering their own teams' prospects.
Remember Goff before McVey? Lawrence before Pederson? Wilson and Brees before Payton? They were unwatchable. Coaching matters and Herbert has had bottom bin ones his whole career including a HISTORICALLY bad defense and cherry on top no actual homefield advantage yet he was still smashing records over his knee. Boy is gonna go scorched earth and I can't wait to lick the tears off of Acho's face.
brees was not bad in san diego he just got injured badly and didnt fit the mold of what a QB should look like in the age of the 6'4" statue QB (he was/is too short). he had an 11-4 season with the chargers the year they drafted eli (and traded eli for rivers because eli didnt want shit to do with the chargers). He still had a winning season the following year before getting picked up by the saints and his first season as a saint he only had one more win than the last as a charger. He was def watchable. He made the pro bowl as a charger.
@@S.G93yeah but brees was an 84.9 rated QB with the chargers and a 101 rated QB with payton. 2 completely different players when he was with a different coach.
As one gets older in a career, money takes on less importance compared with details of the new assignment/new job. The money at Atlanta, or Michigan, or San Diego was all probably pretty close. Leaving aside the differences in intangibles - family, weather, cultural amenities, etc, Harbaugh picked the Chargers because he saw this team (of all available teams) as the one with the best chance to get to a SB. And John's SB trophy on their Dad's mantle probably quietly gets under Jim's skin every time he goes home! No doubt he was aware of the Charger's cap space issues, personnel issues, etc but he apparently believes those are resolvable. Not going to say that the Chargers got lucky to get Harbaugh because they are paying alot for his talents. But to say they now have a top ten coach is not hyperbole.
2029.... Need to dial down that THC, Collie... 2024 wildcard definately, likely win 2025 win the Div and bye, 50/50 on AFC champ. 2026 AFC Champs, SB 60/40 win 2027 SB #2 , a win. Youre welcome.
I like your progression, but I'd tap the brakes a little and shift everything back a year - i.e. SB#2 in 2028. I say this because 2024 is going to be a tough year from a salary cap standpoint, and player-personnel standpoint. But in 2025- watch out!
@@-stubbiestninja-7397 night & day? Losing record, not in playoffs, 3rd place in AFC west, still can’t beat Raiders, defense is considerably worse, and now Russ is out with a massive salary cap hit making next season a likely rebuild year. Atleast Hackett didn’t throw temper tantrums in the press conferences and scape goat players……… oh yeah, had the jets put up 400 yards of offense on the defense this year too
I wouldn't be surprised if Harbaugh tries to go after some of his Michigan players. I've said before on another video, but I'd like to see Blake Corum in the backfield
As a fan since 1979 - of all the bad coaches the Chargers have had (and they've had quite a few) Staley was the worst. Apparently, a nice guy but my gosh he was hugely in over his head. Hugely bad individual decisions, bad offensive coaching, horrible defensive coaching, incapable of make effective 2nd half adjustments, bad culture, radiated insecurity, poor evaluator of personnel, worse usage of personnel.....the list goes on and on. None of those will apply to Harbaugh.
AP is certainly a culture creator. But needs to get coordinators right, not going to call the plays. With Graham back or an experienced DC in is place, and an OC who will work the offense to what he wants (pound the rock emphasis), Raiders really have something with that.
Coaches matter but players matter much more. Yeah Andy is certainly a good coach but having a generational QB certainly helps, same with BB and Bill. Jimmy Johnson went 1-15 his first year and that was with a young hall of fame QB. In today’s game the fans, social media and the talking heads would have run him out of the building. Bill has not forgotten how to coach but he is a terrible GM. No coach and I mean no coach could have won with NE offense and pretty much any coach could win with Mahomes. I remember for years the talking heads had Andy as a good coach but a choke in big games. He still would be looked at that way if Tom was still in his prime because Brady and NE had KC number.
Ok , first off ......Shanahan has Lynch to thank for that team. He drafted some of the best defensive players ever in his first few years. Jim Harbabaugh top coach ? Let's see if that still holds true through week 6 in 2024 . I bet he's 3-3 at best by then. Where is Todd Bowles ? Any of your lists or opinions show why you are where you are and not in charge of ANY pro team lol
This dude is so far off, young niners were bult on defense with cheap defense that fortified our team, we have allstar offense now cuz we can afford them. Detroit aint even close to the same level of defense but they offense is stupendous no doubt. But young niners were not kittle, aiyuk, cmc etc it was arik armstread, warner, kittle, buckner, mcglinchy
I have watched everyone of his games at the University of Michigan. To say that he is a second-half Tweaker means you have not watched the games. I’m not saying he’s not a good coach. But I’m 100% saying he makes no true second-half adjustments that work and is always outcoached in the second half. If you could look back on all the games that were lost in the second half and they were lost. You would understand that I’m right and you are wrong. However, you have a microphone and your pontificating about stuff. You never watched based on three games.
Herbert never missed a game until this year. And even then It was only 3 games, dude has played most of a season with fractured ribs and played through other injuries. He might have played through the finger this year if the chargers weren’t already basically eliminated from the playoffs

There’s a huge difference in seeing Harbaugh on the sidelines at Michigan state and Brandon Staley on the sidelines coaching the chargers

I noticed that too. I'll delete my comment. 😂 Good catch

DJ is completely right. Jim does everything to take the responsibility OFF his QBs. Which will benefit Herbert because he is asked to do too much
