Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.
I hope you enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!
I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and liking my videos. You can also find me on Facebook borderviewfarms and on Instagram @borderviewfarms

I don't care what anybody says, that was very, very good corn, Fantastic !! As for the mystery bird, I'd say its a dead duck lol

The useability of the 360 Rain system over your previous irrigation system will make the difference. I predict the 360 Rain and you ruse of it will get better as time goes on, whereas your previous system was maxxed out.
The 360 rain don't cool the corn off when it is hot. That is very important in high yielding corn.
It also doesn't cause tar spot
I always wonder why your wife doesn't participate in your channel more. You have a wonderful family, and your wife is a big part of your success. I think that's why we refer to our wives as "our better half"? Hope she does well in the marathon.
Just curious about the water for the irrigated field. Is there much difference between the nutrient makeup of the well water compared to the river water??? 🤔🤔🤔
Good for your wife.
Do you have any of what you called the candy corn to harvest?
Nope not this year
Oh Man just imagine the if you could have watered the corn earlier . I'm impressed with the 360 RAIN I remember several times you didn't have it running . 5 year average right . Good luck to your wife
that is a peacock nathan friend of mine had some peacocks and they got out like 2 years ago and have been living amongst the turkeys
Why did you kill the bird you prick!
On a good note next year's yield will be a lot more since the 360 can start watering right after planting next year
If i remember last year, 278 to 280. I believe
This video is really captivating! I really enjoyed how you shared the work process on your farm, especially the details about growing corn and managing the irrigation system. The moment with the colorful bird in the field was so interesting too! I'm curious to know what kind of machinery your farm typically uses? Are you satisfied with their performance? I'd love to hear more about your experience with these tools and the improvements you're making for the next harvest. Wishing you continued success and a bountiful season!
Where did the bird come from? An egg!
Can you set the rain to make two passes over where you normally grab your entries? One when the rain is going down one side and the another on the way back so there’s 2-3 days between the passes?
Would more water help?
Does GH have any short corn hybrids in the pipeline?
Not that we've been told about
I haven't ran an 8 row corn head since 1988 when New Holland made the first 8 row head. How long does it take to combine a 2000 acre field of corn with an 8 row?
I don't have any 2,000 acre fields so I don't know but a while
Maybe they can update the rain 360 with a variable rate of water and fertilizer
Just wondering why your row shutoffs on the planter did not turn off when you went into a planted swath? Or did you not have section control turned on?
They did turn off. I was in the path that cut into an already planted pass
@@BorderViewFarms oh ok, looked like there was rows planted on top of each other
Pheasant?
Does it matter whether it's a rooster a peacock they both taste like chicken😅😅
In Texas farmers entering the NCGA irrigated contest do not enter if the yield looks to be under 300 bushels. Also it takes 2 supervisors over 300 bu/ac. I first did the contest in 1970 with a yield of about 200 bu. I lost interest when an area farmer from Hart TX made 460 bu/ac.
Interesting take considering of the 17 total entries from Texas in 2023 only 3 were above 300 bushel yield and 5 were less than 200 bushel. But sure you guys in Texas just don't bother with our pedestrian sub 300 bushel yields.
@@BorderViewFarms We are now having many more 105 degrees days and more limited irrigation as we have been depleting the aquifer for over 80 years. The last 2 years our annual rain has been 10" from the normal 20". Next to me is Faria Brothers Dairy with 100,000 cows needing corn silage and a second Triticale silage crop. Applying more than 35 inches of irrigation each year. Much corn is coming west by unit train from the Midwest. Your corn is a life saver for the High Plains feedlot industry.
Go Mattie Go. beat your PB.
Probably s Guinea hen they look like a Peacocks!
wood grouse maybe.
Lol if there's roughly 90000 grains of corn per bushel, he gets 250 bushels per acre and farms 2000 acres, that's 45.000.000.000 grains (45 Billion). Anyone want to guess how many calculations my graphics processor does per second?
800 times more, or 45.000.000.000.000. And his total harvest weight has 20.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000 atoms.
Why don’t you try a hot number from Pioneer or Dekalb in your irrigated field. Farming is all about the Benjamins
Why would you show that you ran over that beautiful bird?
I’m pretty sure he didn’t. I think it was a hawk got it
That bird was a peacock or peafowl. Search for a picture. That wasn't a wild bird it wandered off from someone's hobby farm or something.
Don't beat yourself up. You are comparing irrigated with irrigated...
The saving was in ease of use and acres covered. Don't cut back on acres the ceiling means more acres covered is better than 100 at a slightly higher yield.
Looked like someone’s big rooster, edit was someone’s big rooster
It was mostly blue. Looked like a peacock
Rooster.??
I know the name of that bird....it's called flat bird 🤭🤭
What about less water more often. Figure out you can put on in 84 hours . And don't second guess and keep it running. Writing it off over 8 years ???? And definitely a BIG reduction in operating costs.
(Electric) . You probably still got your hide back .
Nothing ventured nothing gained .
Good morning
Pheasant?
Nope definitely not a pheasant.
Good morning
Pheasant?
