- Crisbecq Battery (Marcouf Battery) is a second world war artillery battery located near the village of Saint-Marcouf. In this video I show you the damage inflicted by naval gunfire on this monstrous fortification!
Construction started on the Battery in the summer of 1941. The Battery formed part of the Atlantic Wall defences and was one of the most powerful gun batteries in Normandy and could cover the shoreline between St-Vaast la Hougue and Pointe du Hoc.
The site was armed with 3 x 210mm Skoda navy guns, 2 x 20mm anti aircraft guns and 6 x 75mm anti aircraft guns. On D-Day only two of the 210mm navy guns were protected by concrete casemates as the third casemate was still under construction. The site also had a command post, personnel and ammunition shelters an infirmary and defensive machine-gun emplacements.
Today the site is a museum which allows you to explore battery viewing its mess rooms, food & equipment stores, munitions holds and the infirmary which have been completely re-equipped with original equipment and supplies.

Thank you for a great documentary! There are those of us who still care and really want to know what took place and how and remember those who lost their lives so that we may live in freedom! We will never forget them. ♥️ 🇺🇲 🇬🇧 🇨🇵 🇨🇦
Thank you very much for the kind feedback. I’m glad there are people out there who have the same interest as me!
@@thehistoryexplorer My interest stems from learning and hearing so much about it. My best friends Dad will turn 100 years old on May 9th. He was part of D-Day, departed for Omaha Beach but ended up storming Utah Beach. My Dad was younger, but is now gone. But he was born and raised in Belfast, NI. He lived through the Belfast Blitz but lost school chaps. Whether we are on one side of the pond or the other, we have connections to a war that should never, ever happen again.
Thank you. Reminds me almost too much what my father's generation went through.
I hope you enjoyed the video
Felt like I was there! I am learning so much! Love the bloopers you're human like the rest of us! 🙃 ❤
I couldn’t add the really foul mouthed ones 😂
@@thehistoryexplorer Don't we all do that?? That's real life as we know it! Absolutely marvellous! ❤

I like the way you explain what happened in your videos. Some just go around and say 'this is a hole, wow' or 'look at this cannon'. thanks Rob, very good video again

Thanks Rob, this video needs all the help it can get 😅
thank you
You're welcome
Next time please take extra lighting for when you're inside, so that we can see.
Great video as always! If i can give some criticism , there is a big volume drop between sound on location and voice over. For example at 6.06 min. Voice over sounds perfect but it then drops to a point i had to turn the volume up haha.
Keep it up!!
Thanks for the feedback! Really appreciate it. The wind was so bad at the location I had to filter it which it seems has made it quieter. I’ll watch out for that next time 👍
Thanks for this great documentary. It would be cool if they made a movie about D day from the German prospective, as long as it is historically accurate. Thanks again for the great documentary.👍👍❤️🫡🫡❤️👍
That would be very interesting! Thanks for the comment
