    A pendant is something that hangs off a chain around the neck
    A PENNANT is a triangular flag
    A pedant is someone on TH-cam who corrects such errors

    Thanks for another great presentation.
    Regarding the Robert Taylor picture with autographs of the Luftwaffe aces: During the last quarter of the last century, these prints, along with other were popular aviation artists such as Keith Ferris, were popular with many history and aviation buffs. Along with the pictures were seminars in which the surviving airmen, along with their Allied counterparts, participated. Many of these were sponsored and promoted by Ms. Virginia Bader, a well know aviation art dealer and niece of the famed RAF ace, Douglas Bader. Just more trivia.

    I’ve seen in a documentary that Eva Braun has descendants still living in Germany. I think they are nieces, they are very private and refused to be interviewed in the documentary by the History Channel. Hope it helps.

    The tiny books were printed as part of the German Winterhilfswerk (WHW) campaigns that were held every year from October through March, 1933-1945. People who placed money into the famous red WHW donation cans were given one of the booklets. It was common for people to hang these books and other WHW items with strings from a button of their clothing. This showed the persons support and stopped the numerous WHW donation collectors from hitting them up twice.

      What family ? Her immediate family all died out by the early 70s. According to wikipedia, she had 1 confirmed niece.
      Assuming there still is a bloodline intact, it'd likely very be distant.

    Hello Legacy collectibles. Two small announcements to cooking khan fishing and legacy collectibles: German can buy nazi insignia. Collecting it by regarding the law! Speaking about the little figures at the end of the video. You say, that the guy with the "RINGKRAGEN" is a member of the NSKK. That is not correct. The guy wears orange colored Rank signs (Orange ist the color of the German MP, called Feldjäger) and he wears a "Ringkragen", which the german MP (Feldjäger) wore in the field. With "FELDGENDARMERIE" written on it below the eagle.That is why they were also called "KETTENHUNDE" , aka chain dogs in english freely translated. Thanks for the wonderful video! Yours, JG Waffenwelt company.

      Read a ww2 memoir from a german soldier who ended up as a chain dog on the eastern front. He mentioned someone they suspected of reporting positions of german troops and etc to be hit with artillary, they ended up taking him in and the suspect denied everything. The suspect ended up being executed and the memoir mentioned he (the chain dog) wasn't quite sure he was guilty but he did note the artillary stopped hitting accurately.

    The "word" that you see so often in the diary looks quite a lot like the german word for "mother" - Mutter.
    Especially since he also uses "Mutti" which is basically a cuter way of saying Mother (like Mommy) when he doesn't use Mutter.

    The worst thing you can do is giving it to a museum. Once it goes into a museum, it can be sold, destroyed, or whatever the museum wants to do with it. I highly doubt a museum in Germany would display the ring.

    As a museum professional, I love the idea of Eva's ring becoming part of a public collection. HOWEVER, the stipulation that it be allowed to go back to the family should they ever come forward is a hard pill to swallow. Most museums do not accept gifts with conditions. It just creates too many headaches in the long run. (Ask me how I know! lol) With that in mind, if repatriation to the family is something you feel very strongly about, then I'd recommend placing the item on long term loan. That way, it can be publicly displayed for an indeterminate amount of time, but also easily recalled by you and then given to the descendant.

    • @billb89
      @billb89 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most people don’t know that unless you leave your items on loan with the museum they can sell your items to make room for other things. I also know most things in a museum don’t see light of day.

The families are beyond grateful they feel the lost soldier has finally come home spiritually.

    Or
    While showering in the morning the neighbors could hear Herr Hitler playing submarine while in the bath hollering commands raise the “periscope” hence the first couple of years following discovery, or hearing Herr Hitler singing in the shower;

    The Germans did not have "tours" in the same way, they fought until the end, either Yours or the War. And on the eastern front, that was a lot of "easy" pickings that the war in the west did not have, most air war was against the bombers, and their escort. In the east it was a continuous war from 1941 to 1945. In the west it was more mid 1944 to 1945, and then the Luftwaffe was really decimated, so wins was few and was costly, there where to many P47, P51, Spits and the holy trinity from Hawker. And from the Allied side, it was hard to find enough targets to be an ace (5 "kills").

    • @logancurl9526
      @logancurl9526 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      And if you didn't have a properly functioning example of one of those gun-sight cameras that started recording whenever the pilot pulled the trigger to fire his guns (which wasn't common equipment for a lot of the units, I believe) and managed to capture the kill on film, for it to be counted, per the military standards/requirements (for both the American and German military, as well as most other comparable nations I believe) regarding the counting of "kills" against enemy aircraft and such, there has to be AT LEAST 1 other credible person/pilot (I'm not sure if they must be in a separate aircraft or not) that was present and personally witnessed the 1st pilot "killing" or downing each enemy aircraft that he is claiming he did, and they have to put that in writing and sign it. This may not seem like a big thing to some, but just think about how many stars/moons/planets that have to line up, in just the right way, for there to be another pilot that happens to be looking towards a specific portion of the sky, during hostile air-air combat, possibly engaging other enemy fighters, while also having to constantly check all of those gauges/dials in the cockpit of his own aircraft....

    Another great video, Tom! Would love to own the Luftwaffe print! Galland is a personal favorite of mine because of his involvement with the ME-262...the first operational jet fighter EVER. Doesn't hurt he was also a technical advisor for the movie The Battle of Britain. Eric "Bubi" Hartmann is also the world's highest scoring Ace, with over 300 confirmed kills.
    I'm with you on the Eva Braun ring...repatriate it to the family. If that doesn't work, find a museum or collector that will display it appropriately.

    My favorite Walton's tv show was the one about burning German books. They had Hitler's book and a pile of other books. John boy saw a special book in the pile and ask if anyone could read German. A brave lady stepped forward and read the first sentence in German. Then she read it in English "in the begining God created the heavens and the earth." They did not burn the books. Your offering the ring to a family member is admirable. You are always trying to do the right thing. I have one of Eva Braun's rings given most probably to Rochus Misch as Eva gave away many of her personal items when knowing she would commit suicide with her husband, Adolph Hitler. It was given to an SS telephone operator of the Begleitkommando and Misch was the only one of them who could have gotten it out during that time frame because he saw his wife right before the fall of the bunker trying to convince her to leave Berlin on a plane alloted for that by Hitler. They had a home in Berlin. No other SS telephone operator had opportunity to to get it out safely because they were taken captive by the Red Army.

    You are not the only one who is pestered by people who do not understand the importance of collecting and maintaining historical items.
    The Canadian War Museum had a Mercedes convertible limousine that turned out to be one of Hitler's own.
    No less a figure than the curator wanted to dispose of it because 'Hitler was a bastard' but was overruled.
    The purpose of collecting historical items is to maintain a link to the past and remind people of what happened and who was involved NOT to glorify it.
    Just because a ring, gun, coat or car belonged to some depraved Nazi is no reason to destroy it.
    When we ignore the past or try to censor it, we will open ourselves to making the same mistakes all over again.
    This whole 'Cancel Culture' thing is the worst form of that.
    We must never forget the abuses of the past, and these objects are a direct link to those times and should be kept.,

      I understand, but I think the cancel culture ideas behind this are not good for anyone.
      Wars are not started to make money off the relics once they are over.
      Hitler wanted to exterminate several distinct groups and killed millions in his 12 year rule trying to do that.
      That is something we should never be allowed to forget.
      Forbidding the trade in Nazi war relics will not stop wars, but it might obscure important lessons that people need to learn.
      Tom deals in weapons and militaria for a living, not as a political expression or to support warlike aims.
      Now if he began making new Nazi armbands and promoting racist ideals you would have an argument.
      However, this is just buying and selling goods from a specific historical period that we should never forget.

    I have the JG 52 print in my collection. I got it from General Johannes Steinhoff as his presentation copy and knew all signing fighter pilots personally. It is framed too. You are not a Nazi, if you are interested in history. I am a collector of photographs and in second line autographs. Make a difference between military and political/organization items. Most of our soldiers were no nazis, they were only born in the wrong year.

    Excellent video. I have been collecting Militaria (not firearms) of and on for four decades. In that time I have constantly had to defend and explain my hobby to those who misunderstand my motives or are ignorant of the fact that war souvenir collecting is an ancient endeavor. In fact King David in the bible was a Militaria collector!

      Yes, the National World War Two Museum in New Orleans is the exact museum I had in mind as well. It has expanded greatly over the years and the ring would be safe there. I would very hesitant about sending the ring back to Germany. It would probably end up destroyed there sooner or later.

    It could be that the Luftwaffe’s fighter pilots are respected because the job really didn’t lend itself to war crimes or treachery. Maybe shooting other airmen in parachutes but that’s about it. There was a bit of gallantry exhibited by both sides, somewhat inconsistently but it happened none the less. Just a thought. Galland, Rall and Hartmann were three of the best.

So there are still many persons with polish names , for example formerly well known football ( soccer) player Litbarskie.

Just check the local section on the various arms classified sites and networking with experienced older collectors has netted me a great collection so far!

    Fascinating and horrifying in equal measure. I wouldn’t want to own, or even touch, those things but they are important artefacts, they should be preserved and displayed as a part of world history, a place in time that helped shape the world we live in today. History is rarely set in La La Land and is mostly unpleasant but nonetheless relevant.
