But it also worked for so long that the odometer reset to all 0s in one episode where they were offering him a vDodge Viper in exchange for letting them film the odometer reseting. So they claimed it was a hunk of junk but I dont know many junkers that will work that long

One episode that you have to see, in its entirety, is 'Her Cups Runneth Over'. It's the episode that caused a housewife in Michigan to complain to the network.

The only reason it did get made is because Fox was brand new and TRYING to be the rebel, renegade network. ABC, CBS, or NBC _never_ would've greenlit this in the 80s. And honestly, the conditions for a show LIKE THIS coming along are the same as they were back then: in the 80s TV had become bland and sterile after pushing a lot more boundaries in the 70s.
