  • Shaka Hislop tears into Jurgen Klinsmann’s comments to ESPN about the impact the CONCACAF Nations League will have on the United States men’s national team. Hislop, Craig Burley and Alejandro Moreno examine the impact being in CONCACAF has on the U.S. and Mexico, how the two regional giants can improve despite their local competition and whether the two federations are more concerned with profits than results.

    Player development is a everyday thing not just every couple of years playing in a copa america type tournament. The USA is not going to get better by simply getting outclassed by the Brazil's of the football world.

    Klinsmann’s criticism is not ridiculous at all. It's exactly on point. And apparently that point has been missed by Shaka Zulu Hislop. He has his own agenda he was speaking about. No, the US has no obligations towards the other CONCACAF nations, their benefits and their development. US has to worry only about its own. US host the Gold Cup because it has the fields, can bring in the crowd and the sponsors. And btw, the Gold Cup is ridiculous competition. US and Mexico are better off competing in the Copa America every time. But USSF prefers to make money rather than develop players.

  • @Enterthedarkness23

    When it comes down to it the failure of US soccer is systemic. From a young age American soccer players are at a major disadvantage in the states. The only hope for them to learn how to be proper soccer players is to go abroad which doesn't happen very often. The states are just not producing young talent.

    • @stargazer1804
      @stargazer1804 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      its3quiet that’s because soccer players in the U.S have to Pay to play, there’s a vast reservoir of talented youth in the U.S but they simply can’t afford the tournament fees, club fees, gear costs etc. only the rich can, and well that only leaves about 1% of America’s total population since out of the percentage of rich people most want to play American football, tennis and or golf. So yeah the system needs change.

    • @its3quiet
      @its3quiet 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stargazer1804 Couldn't agree more. That's what was I alluding to. There are many reasons why they're not producing young talent and the pay to play culture here is definitely one of them.
      Another is the college route to the MLS. Most colleges won't produce talent that some soccer academies could.

    • @stargazer1804
      @stargazer1804 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      its3quiet that’s because they want it to be like American football where college teams are a big thing, they want it that way because if college football gets big then they can exploit that system and milk it for cash like the American football and if it doesn’t get big then what does it matter to them, they still make tons of cash off COPA ORO/ GOLD CUP to continue buying out retired big names to fill out their league stadiums, all they care about is money, they are pussies like the boys at espn said, they don’t want to put their money where their mouth is.

However, let's not pretend that the US is some kind of "Brazil" in the region that will beat any of these Concacaf teams without any effort. U.S ALWAYS struggles to beat the "weak" teams even in its best form. As crappy as Concacaf competition can be the U.S. or even Mexico can't unanimously beat every team. The US does not get better playing at this level. Mexico and the US need to play commebol opposition in bi-continental play. The invitation can be extend to Costa Rica, and Canada if they choose to but it’d be tougher going for them than the latter. Concacaf makes itself better in the long run by fostering better rivalries between its regional nations and putting more emphasis on development of its smaller nations, also they benefit with more inclusion into the WC with the 4 spots already basically reserved every time now gone, it’s wide open. As for the US and Mexico, new rivalries with the big dogs, better relations, igniting that growing spirit of futbol in the US and a demand to do better because of it. You have to play the harder levels to get better, it’s no coincidence that Mexico and The US never make WC runs, you’re not built for the competition and you get mauled in the fray.. every time. You have to take that risk.

    In reality, Getting slaughtered by Brazil all the time wont help these teams in the short term (at least financially) and Im sure teams like Brazil, Argentina etc aren't all that interested in regular games vs the US as it doesnt benefit them either. Long term, however, playing those types of teams will inevitably make them better. Playing trinidad and guatemala wont help the program.

    USA had a huge step back ever since they fired klinsman. With klinsman they finished 4th place in copa America and got out of the group of death in the World Cup. And would win friendlies away against top nations like Germany,Holland, Italy. Finally beat México at azteca. After that, they didn’t even qualify to the WC and they keep getting clapped by Mexico and keep on calling these mls players as their main core while leaving out the players in Europe.

      CONCACAF (not FIFA) created it so that while South American, Asian, and African teams are playing 2022 WCQ games and European teams are playing 2020 Euro qualifiers, the CONCACAF teams can play "more meaningful" games (versus friendlies they would inevitably play against each other). So instead of the US playing Canada in a friendly, now they play Canada in the Nations League. And, of course, they're trying to raise money to _hopefully_ better the training and games in countries like Trinidad, Panama, Curacao, Guatemala, etc.
