- A quick session with the friends. Targeting Stripers on the California Aqueduct. Winter time is one of the best times to be throwing a A-rig/Umbrella rig. Little to no vegetation this time of year makes it very easy to cover a lot of water to find these stripers.

Dude you fish a lot. Your reels are all hammered from use and they ain’t the cheapest reels either and your cork grips are all discolored from gripping them. Time on the water is making you a great fisherman, plus you are smart yet humble allowing you to have an open mind to let the fish tell you what they want. Thank you for the vid so I can learn too

That reel is not cheap. But it’s not that good of a reel either. I’ll take Daiwa Tatula HD or Coastal over it.
Fishing gear ain't cheap. A good angler takes care of his equipment for years of use

Excellent winter video, keep up the good work sir. You should check out replacing that main drive gear and pinion gear since you work that reel pretty hard on a lot of techniques. You'd have a rebuilt Tranx for ~$40 or less.
Thanks for the tip brother, this reel has been through a lot the past year and definitely needs maintenence. Lots or rainy days and tough fishing on the reel

Hi, Damian. I am a new Californian, and I have never fished for stripers before. I was wondering if you have a recommendation for a striper lure setup that works well in faster water near a gate, or do you suggest fishing calmer water away from the gate with a rig similar to yours. Thanks.

Easy limit right there! Just moved to Manteca from Sac and I've been venturing Tracy Aqueduct and the Delta Mendota. Beginning of the year, I caught a 25" on pile by S. Tracy Rd. Right now, Clifton Court Forbay is been hitting on Mudsuckers and Bluegill.

How do you release one of you drag it up the concrete slope?
If its a keeper we just drag it up but if its an undersize you can walk down to the side/stairs and flip them up without them touching the cement

18" is the minimum and only 2 per person

It's on HWY 33 in Santa Nella. It's where the forbay turns into the aqueduct

Just straight floro works best for me. Only time im running braid to floro is on my spinning setups

Where do you live I can help you find the closest gate to you. They aqueduct goes from los banos all the way south.

yeah, anywhere around the sac river is definitely better than the aqueduct. Aqueduct can be quite tough. But if you are interested. You can message me on facebook and i'll send you some pin drops of locations on the aqueduct

It’s the ducts near Los Banos, it’s the floodgate that is right next to the O’niel Forbay. I believe it’s HWY33 right before Santa Nella

Because they’re healthier than the ones in the lake. More forage lol
What exactly is sad about it? Some anglers keeping fish from the aqueduct isn’t going to dent the population with a 2 fish limit. If it would and there was a concern, DFW would make it off limits. There are hundreds of miles that are not open to the public for other reasons. And the aqueduct wasn’t built to be a fish or wildlife habitat, it’s for drinking/irrigation water. The fish just happened to get in there. Maybe I’m missing something, but it seems like one of the better places to catch and keep

That makes sense, maybe I’m just upset becuase I fricken drive by that damn aquaduct all the time! Haha. I have always wondered if there are fish in there. Are they hybrids or just all striper.
