Man nice job landing a couple, sucks about the one on the mudsucker though. I too caught my first fish of the year in that Deep Water Channel but was only a bluegill and after that some micro largemouth in a 7hr period xD

Good call on the trash problem. I have been doing that myself. People do not realize that if places get trashed too much that's when the govt steps in and starts keeping people out or imposing restrictions. Its so easy.... take your trash with you!!!

I was gonna say the same thing. For something to hit that it has to be big enough to swallow it whole so it would be better to wait until the pole truly bends that way you know you got a real bite.
Any size fish is better than no fish
I caught stripers on my last to outings there in Dec. Manged 1 keeper. The rest were 16-17 inchers. That one you lost kinda looked like catfish?

Circle hooks for my mudsuckers. Let the striper work on it until that pole bends down hard. Circle hook= reel down a couple times and he's on!

People are terrible. They leave all kinds of trash out there.
If you snell your hooks you can get better hooksets. Give it a try.

Dwc during this time is catfish and sturgeon running through. Striper hit there but small dinker. For chances on big striper, best to catch by the edge for live bait. Different area has different scent for big 30 incher. Just years experience out there.

You need to let the fish take it when using mudsuckers. I let the fish take it to where my rod tip double over like the fish is gonna steal the rod.

Mudsuckers are considered a big bait, give them time to eat it and rig it only through the top lip so it can live longer and breath. Dont set the hook on the bites set the hook on the takedown when your rod is bent over and keeps going. I catch alot of good keeper sized spripers there with the occasional catfish off of mudsuckers. Best time is peak high tide. Sturgeon should be in there right now too! Try ghost shrimp and mudsucker for the big bite! Just have to believe in your bait and skip out on the little shakers. Goodluck!
For me the mudsuckers die in 10min. I catch them in dwc
The hook did seem quite small and was barely exposed

Hey man. When the previous fisherman doesnt need his bait. They usually leave it for the next guy. That place is meh. Gotta put your 1 week notice to fish that spot.
What do you mean one week notice?
I use to live in that area in the 60's and 70's. 😢 very sad to see the area in such deplorable conditions.
Baby sturgeon @ 7:30? Don’t think striper or catfish will jump out of water like that lol sturgeon will sometimes after a Hookset on them
