Maybe you might rethink it. As in these people are free to give their opinions in what you are told is a authoritarian dictatorship. Yet in Canada you can have your life savings and business taken from you for giving away a cup of coffee or donating $10 to those who have differing opinion. Ya its right out there in the open and yet people refuse to see it all the time. I wonder if they are blind or just refuse to admit they were wrong?

Russian here. Just so you could understand how f-cked up this situation is. We are marching everyday to protest against the war. People are losing their jobs and getting thrown in jail, but we still continue to protest. Members of our healthcare organization wrote a letter against this war. Hundreds of journalists wrote a letter against this war. 227 DEPUTIES (!!!) from small regions of Russia wrote a letter, where they expressed their disgust in Putin's actions. Almost all of our celebrities publicly voiced their disgust about what's happening. Even family members of those few Putin's loyal deputies expressed their concern (their public messages were quickly deleted tho).
LITERALLY THE WHOLE COUNTRY IS AGAINST THIS.
Putin is a psycopathic usurper, who thinks it is fun to play with human lives. He doesn't respect our voice and never did. He doesn't care about, supposedly, his people and never did.
We will continue to do our best to help Ukrainian brothers and sisters. But this whole situation is so surreal to me, i don't even have words to describe it. Like a fever dream times 1000.
Edit March 4th: Update for those, who still want it. I think, this is going to be the last time I update this thread.
Censorship is getting brutal. All the media and celebrities, that were against this war, got cancelled. Some of them were even arrested. Schools now have an obligatory lesson about the necessity of this war. During protests the police is arresting everyone they can catch: men, women, children, WWII veterans etc. There is now a new law that everyone, who posts anything related to this war, be it facts (!) or unwanted opinions, can be thrown in jail for 15 years. And if you want to know, how bad Russian jails are, Plagued Moth has a great video on this topic (TW: gore). And the government is discussing a possibility of bringing death penalties back.
Moscow's protests are dying down. St. Petersburg and Ekaterinburg are the most active right now. They are strong and I am proud of them.
Meanwhile, the number of people, who aggressively support this bloodshed, is rapidly increasing. Bots are definitely playing a big role in it, but I can't pretend that there are no real people among them. There are. And they are getting more and more comfortable, more and more vocal about their opinion.
All of this is taking a major toll on my psyche, for the first time in my life I've experienced shell shock. I can't afford that: my Ukrainian friends need me (thankfully, they are safe for now) and my family needs me. The amount of hatred towards us from the world, the government and Putin's fanboys is insane. It is driving us insane.
For all of you, who expressed their support, sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Your kind words give us hope. If you won't see any more messages from Russians, expressing their concerns about this pointless war, this means our voices were brutally and successfully suffocated.
For those, who were questioning my experience and identity, based on nickname, profile picture and even my knowledge of English (you know people can learn languages, right?..) - look at my other replies in this thread. My purpose was to spread the word as detailed as possible. If I am not Russian, how do I know so much details then? How, do you think, I am able to have so much local details about arrests, censorship and alternative media (which, sadly, doesn't exist anymore)? If this isn't enough for you, you do you. I did everything I could. For those, who question my identity because of my opinion - come on now.
I am staying true to myself and to many other repressed Russians: this war is a pointless bloodshed. You can argue that this was done in order to protect our borders - there are lots of other ways to do that, without killing innocent citizens and ruining their homes. Why not try good ol' propaganda and informational war, if the government is so smug about it? How about, idk, crazy idea, NOT turning other country into bloody ruins?
The answer is simple. No matter how hard propaganda tries to tell that all of this is for the sake of Russia, it is not true. If Putin cared about Russians so much, he wouldn't let our economics crumble into pieces, he wouldn't let the whole world cut us out from even basic needs, such as clothes and food. He wouldn't be so aggressive about shutting people with other opinions up. He wouldn't turn us into the North Korea, where the only Russians left would be those, who lick his boots. If he soooo cared about Russians in Donetsk and Lugansk, he would've focused on humanitarian help and gOoD oLd PrOpAgAnDa.
But he doesn't care. We are becoming dirt poor, hated by the whole world and shunned by companies. He doesn't stop. It's either egomania, or dementia, or both of them.
Putin and his oligarchs are killing Ukrainian people and ruining the future of Russian people. Plain and simple.
I have to go where I am needed. I have a couple of selfish requests: do not forget me. Do not forget represses Russians, who were against the war until the very end. Spread the word about us.
Let's hope that peace is around the corner.

My unconditional support goes to the ukrainian People and russian folks, most of whom have never asked for any war and just desire peace and stability. Having always lived in a relatively peaceful era, I would have never thought that we'd reach this point.

Hey, it's nice to meet you. See there is on going politics. Ukraine wanted to join nato and most Ukraine were pro russian. Putin didn't wanted Ukraine to be part of nato which is treat to russia security so there was war.
I belief , that putin didn't need to declare immediately war against Ukraine. He needed to put tremendous pressure on Ukraine president who is anti pro russian and wanna join nato.
Nato has also fool Ukraine and left them alone in war with Russia. America has become weak after there troops withdraw from afghanistan. Putin know all inside and outside politics, he is very experience person I must say.
On other hand ukraine president doesn't know inside politics. He was a comedian suddenly becoming president.
America is also playing politics with whole world. Nato and USA is also directly or indirectly responsible for ukraine crises.
Now ukraine people have learn hard war that they might never be member of nato as nato didn't help them.

As Russia is also super power after American
But currently america is losing its super power status.
It's seems so china might be next super power as there economy progress.
Secondly, America is clever nations. Those nations which are not part of nato has interfere and destroyed there nations like iraq, afghanistan.

They most likely haven't seen Stalin in full action in their lifetime to be scared, but have lived most of their life on the USSR's empty promises so that's what they're used to. @@cloudburst98 A loose summary of Putin's speech:
"The area known as Ukraine has always been historically Russian. The Ukraine we think of it today was setup long ago as something like a city state within Russia by Lenin during WW1. Then as the USSR was collapsing they needed to trim the fat so to speak they let Ukraine be independent so no more people needed to suffer than necessary, with the idea that one day once things got better they would be readmitted. Well, time passed and the Soviet Union fell and Ukraine was worried it would be left out in the cold, but it wasn't. From 1991 to 2013 Russia gave 250 billion dollars to them to make sure they were no hard feelings and to make sure things there could keep running smoothly. Turns out though all the money was stolen by Western foreign interests and Ukraine itself is pushed by these same powers to be more nationalistic and russophobic, all the while suffering countless economic issues by these same powers. These same Western countries, NGO's, and big banks put on a 30 year propaganda campaign in order to do two things, make Ukraine forget its past and have them eternally scared of Russia. This is a problem because a large portion of eastern Ukraine (the main part in question here) is mostly made up of actual Russian people there before the break up in 91'. Supression of these people got even worse when Ukraine made it illegal to speak Russian within the country. This made no sense to him, because to reject EVERYTHING Russian would be to reject the very existence of the Ukranian nation state. But then where would it go?
That brings me to the next problem: the NATO issue. With Western international finance completely crippling Ukraine from the inside out, they inevitably would have not have much of a military of their own. Now, what should have happened in this case is a Rus/Ukr sitdown where Russia hears what's going on and can offer aid where it can. Sadly 30 years of propaganda scared it away from doing so, and instead Western-back West Ukraine used all of its foreign money to pay terrorists and neo nazi groups to wreak havoc on the more properly Russian East Ukraine. They did this in hopes of calling aid from NATO and other western powers to, apparently, free them from the thumb of Putin? Putin was confused by this because it was foreign finance that crippled the country, attacked it's people, it's monuments, as well as it's churches. Not Russia. Nevertheless less Ukraine never needed to call for help from NATO because--the EU and US quietly snuck troops into Ukraine already and cleared out air space for what was to come. This has a number of problems, not least of them being that this is flagrant act of aggression against Russia, but I digress.
First is the international rule that no use of NATO can happen on a country that borders Russia. The West lied. Second is that even if Ukraine was a part of NATO (and it isn't) NATO can not be used in lieu of a standing army. The West broke it's promise again. Putin is particularly pissed about this because the West promised not to try and creep in any further NATO nations over previous Soviet soil, nevertheless it happened numerous times over since the USSR's collapse. Once again, the West never kept it's promise. The last thing was Ukraine still has access to much of the Soviet era nuclear equipment. Now, it may not be working, but Putin suggests with all of the money and brain power it's receiving from foreign interests, he has evidence the former soviet state is planning to re-update much of the old equipment and that it's only a matter of time before a desperate, scared, and impoverished Ukraine does something even more unthinkable to its own people.
The issue we are facing now is Western-backed West Ukraine is using foreign money and forces to devastate Russian-majority East Ukraine. In the meantime the two small provinces on that side of the country were tired of the abuse. They asked to secede from Ukraine, but were denied. As a result they asked for Mother Russia's assistance, and she obliged. This speech was to make clear that Putin, as well as the rest of Russia, recognizes these two provinces as two new nation states and that it will do it's best to protect ALL of Russia's people (from both East and West Ukraine) while it pushes out the foreign invaders and corrupt leaders that have destroyed a once beautiful country and restore proper rule to the area once again."

American here: I've said this on another thread, but it's worth repeating here (IMO), that most of the young Russians I see interviewed are more deserving of democracy than the legions of white Americans (of which I am one) who worship Trump and his authoritarian tendencies.
Trump's not as intelligent as Putin, but they're of the same cloth. I gotta think that like Trump, Putin was raised by a father who was himself pathological and incapable of providing his son with a unbiding sense of self-respect and it comes out in awful ways for the rest of us.
Well wishes to all Russians of good-will. This American has great respect for you, the many positive aspects of your culture. I don't see an end to the tragedy that is Ukraine, but hopefully one day soon, circumstances will arise that enable Russians to go into Ukraine to help rebuild what authoritarianism (...evil for lack of a better word) has destroyed these past two weeks.

@MrHolyKindness "I support Putin! Is it that, what you wanted me to say?"
The old lady hates Putin just as much as the younger people, but she knows how dangerous it is to speak your mind in Russia.
Really, really sad. They can´t stop Putin. Not alone.

Russian citizens! Please fight for your freedom as the Ukrainians are! I'm from Poland and I would like to see our societies to be more integrated and have normal trade and relationship. Please fight as we did in the past agianst aouthoritarian rule. I'm sure you have power and courage to win! Putin is just a man, he has powerful friends, but those friends lost a lot of money because of putin, keep protesting and you shall win! May force be with you!

Why do people think that Russians do nothing? That we support this madness and all the lawlessness things happened… Many people aren’t satisfied and disagree with a course of domestic policy and foreign policy. We’re trying to do something to change the way we live, to fight for our freedom but all the attempts have failed so far. On the 24th of February thousands of people went to the Pushkinskaya square and were chanting anti-war slogans. That night it all ended up with over 2000 arrests all over the country and blood on the streets. Unfortunately no matter how hard we try but it’s impossible for us citizens to change something without the support of the army. As long as the military forces will have been supporting the government we have little chances to do anything

Notice how the elderly who lived under communism understand that talking bad about the head of state is never a good idea. You get the sense that they don't support Putin but understand that saying so out loud is not a good idea.
