It seems you guys missed quite a lot of spots inside Galle fort. Is there a part two?
There is a mosque, a Buddhist temple (just next to the mosque), and multiple churches inside Galle fort. There are two houses owned by two popular retired cricketers Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene (they both own of Ministry of Crab restaurant chain, maybe you know?). Also multiple museums... the clock tower... the rampart area... etc etc.
I'm from Galle and I studied in an all girls school named "Southlands College" which is inside the Galle fort. Now I live and work in Colombo. I really miss Galle, specially the sunset. :(
Also a sort of "fun" but "not fun" fact... During the Tsunami in 2004, the fort is the only reason the inner city survived. Rest of main Galle city was completely destroyed.

"Galle" is pronounced like the word "gall" or "Gaul" in English, "Gālla" (gaal-luh) in Sinhala, and "Kāli" in Tamil. It's believed to come from the Sinhala word "gāla" which refers to a cattle corral. The "Western" pronunciation/spelling of Galle is probably derived through a folk etymology of the Portuguese "gallo" (old spelling) meaning rooster
I guess it's similar to how "Colombo" is pronounced differently. In Sinhala it's "Kolamba"; thought to be from either "Kolon-thota" (River Kelani harbour), "Kola-amba-thota" (Green/leaf mango harbour) or the indigenous Vedda word "kolamba" which also happens to mean harbour. When the colonists came along, they probably named it Colombo after a certain explorer because it sounded conveniently similar

Hi Balnur, two friendly advices for you. As a girl, you should never ever use machan to an elderly person, that is highly disrespectful. The closest equivalent that I can think of in popular US culture to machan is something like 'yo! wsuuup ma man' in a very hip tone. Now try extrapolating that to an asian culture, said by a girl of a younger age. See? does not fit well right? But for a guy, its not so bad as long as he is addressing someone who could be around his same age that he might get on with really well.
Second thing, Sri Lanka does not just earn from tourism. In fact, tourism is only just a fraction of the GDP. Exporting agricultural products, Apparal as well as IT and computing services also account for majority of the GDP. So while its ok to sympathise about poor people when you run into them, i think it is not necessary to make a big seen out of it. In most of the countries, things are getting expensive exponentially, relative to the income. But that does not mean, all the meals you will find are going to cost you 3000 rupees. The one who can afford to spend that amount on a meal, will spend it. Others, will naturally go to a place with lower prices. Just like anyone would. For a person who is earning 150000 rupees, a 3000 meal a few times a year is nothing. But that's not the same for someone in a village who makes about 30 - 50000. Its all about people's lifestyles.

Fun video again😊. Few fun facts about things you asked,
Ceylon tea means tea made in SriLanka, not a single brand. Dilma is 100% Ceylon tea.
British colonized SriLanka. It was not a part of Britain. For an instance, SriLanka’s couldn’t go to Britain even that time. Even government positions within Srilanka couldn’t be held by Sriankans. Only British were allowed. A different concept.
Good thing you escaped that scammer 😂

When addressing elderly individuals, it’s best to avoid using it, as it might not be appropriate. Never use it with strangers. With much respect to you from me. Hello Guys. Please do not tell machan to an older person. Real meaning of machan is for Brother in law.
But sri lankans call machan to a friend but younger people. Older people they call uncle or Maama. Its not polite to say machan to an older person. take care and enjoy.

The coin seller is simply there to make a living and you have the choice to either buy something or walk away and say no thank you, because after all it is a tourist attraction however the real scammer was the useless fellow with a white cap that made false claims to get $5 out of you for parking and site seeing that obviously you don't need to pay for in most places including public partking areas with the exception of a few. You have to use your logical thinking and not get stuck into each and everyone when it comes to buying something off the street and I mean it in a nice way, yea. Take care.
