    1974, due to sanctions on India, the uranium power plants stopped/ failed. We lost 20 yrs.
    Throughout India the govt of India displaced our people for building dams and for industrial purpose. In the initial period it was with no proper compensation. Its the sacrifices of those silent sufferers that we see a developed India.
    In this case they were even offered at par with corporate buyouts. Not to forget minerals are the asset of any country.
    I am a second generation of such displaced unpaid sacrificial Indian.
    On the other side, to syphon off govt exchequer modern day politicians buy out such land ( to be reserved land) and walk away with millions.

    This is another form of colonialism, a true character of Indian Government since 1947. They are mining resources from Meghalaya to a power plant of another state, movement of resource from a Poor State to a richer one. Instead if they would have set up the plant in Meghalaya, I might not have felt to intervene, but it's the same story. Why are coastal States getting taxes and development on the raw materials that weren't mined there. They did this with Bihar, now Meghalaya. Good employment opportunities will go to Maharashtra on the materials from Meghalaya. This is a true form of Colonialism. I have no stand on mining Uranium, it's there so someone is gonna get it. But people of Meghalaya are placing their life on stake for low income so that development occurs in Maharashtra.

    Although I am not in favour of this mining thing but I would like to add that where we will get uranium if we don't mine. Ultimately we have to import that and importing costs money. So maybe it's better to dispose the wastes safely while generating employment rather than importing. Just my opinion 👍👍

    • @bonbontalks
      @bonbontalks 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Please do some research before you speak. Do you know what Uranium is used for and what it does to the places where it is mined from and what that waste would do?
      It is simpler not just about disposal of the mining waste. It is about complete destruction of the eco system over there.

    • @bonbontalks
      @bonbontalks 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @bored It is not about technology to manage mining waste. Research the problem please. Nuclear plant management and nuclear waste management is a joke in India. And about this particular plant, they've stopped mining a few years ago but the people are still reeling from the effects of those mines. Damage caused by nuclear radiation doesn't go away .. it shows up in some form or the other for a 1000 years.
      Why mine for uranium in the first place? Why do we need to use uranium? The only good reason is nuclear power and when there are other sustainable alternatives, why go the disastrous route?

    • @bonbontalks
      @bonbontalks 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @bored Please Google. I only have basic knowledge and have to get you from Google anyways if I need to give you proper data. But for now, wind & solar are more sustainable than any other power sources.

There is allegedly 9.2 million tonnes of high grade sandstone type uranium deposits in Meghalaya possibly worth billions. As a developing country we are still insufficient in energy production, the use of which is ever growing year by year. We import most of our uranium from Canada, Russia and Uzbekistan

Today , most of the lands has been turned into waste land of Uranium waste. It's so toxic that even today the village people suffer from dangerous disease and disabilities.
    But Shameful, non of the news medias and any bigger publications cover this news. Caz obviously who cares about a Trible state .

Whereas, in another part, people oppose the ban on coal mining. And usually it's friends (not her friends, but of the various organisations we have in the state) of the same people who led the protest against uranium mining who are the loudest voice against the NGT's ban on coal mining.

    In India, villages must be consolidated into larger villages so proper infrastructure can be provided. There are too many small villages scattered all over greatly increasing the cost of providing utilities. A village with 50 people is simply not viable in today’s times. The cost of producing roads, electricity, water, health to such a small place will never be economical. Plus when villages get consolidated, more land can be reclaimed for jungles, mining etc. If there were vast stretches that are uninhabited, then uranium mining in those areas should not affect people. However, in India, villages are everywhere, every single square kilometer of the country is inhabited (except maybe in deserts, deep jungles and high altitude places). Uranium mining should definitely NOT happen in inhabited areas. This is the advantage that Canada and Kazakhstan have - vast uninhabited areas where Uranium is mined without affecting humans. We need to get modernized in india and for that we need to aggregate people into larger townships, villages so they can live better. The current way of scattered living brings down the quality of life for these small inhabitations.
