The color difference and weathering just come down to the screen used costumes looking like that. I'll give Hasbro major props for making this figure as screen-accurate as possible in the paint department.
It is indeed a result of the Kenobi series...that still doesn't change the fact that the figures have all sorts of different shades of blue over the years. We'd just like a little visual consistency. -Justin
@@OutOfTheBasement for real, my favorite troopers are the troopers that are the same shade as the 501st Jet Trooper. All troopers that color go to my custom headcannon group. It's a true shame this isn't that color so I won't pick it up. There's also the fact Appo should have an arrow but Kenobk changed that.
@randomman1608 Appo only had an arrow on his helmet during his tenure as a sergeant in the Umbara campaign. During Revenge of the Sith, Appo just wore regular 501st armor.
So happy with how this guy turned out. I think the blue is more accurate to how they appear in Kenobi. They seemed lighter if I'm remembering correctly.
For the blue paint not matching, you can thank Deborah Chow. In the Kenobi show, the 501st blue is noticeably inaccurate to ROTS 501st clones as it’s much lighter
Nice review, Nate. I guess it's kind of a give and take situation when it comes to Appo's 501st blue, we get an upgraded Clone body but that Kenobi-accurate blue. All those improvements big and small truly deliver, especially the bicep swivels for me. And it's crazy we managed to get both elbow and bicep swivels on the same figure!
I am really happy to have this in hand. I am surprised to see the two little black marks on its' left chest armor painted ! And paint on the back as well. I think that Hasbro really executed this amazingly. Thanks Nate for the review.
That’s true! Those little details are what separates this figure from other recent clones! I’d almost be willing to call this a banger but that shade of blue hurts. Thanks for watching Volts! -Nate
Great in-depth video Nate! I’m lMcLovin’ this figure. Aside from the aesthetics the way they separated the parts makes it so much easier to paint without need for masking. The arms are also re-engineered a lot too (the elbow actually has a long stem that goes through the biceps and into the shoulders). I think Hasbro is doing this to further able to swap parts for future clone variations (yay!). Have a good day bro!
Oh man that sounds awesome! I really can’t wait to get some plain white clones on this body. That’s gonna be amazing and I can’t wait to see the customs you make on em!! -Nate
I found 6 of these guys at one of my local targets yesterday (I decided to pass on getting one because I prefer to collect 3.75 these days). I might decide to get one eventually, he’s just not high on my priority list because I’d rather get a new type of trooper before an upgrade of a previous figure. None the less it’s still nice to see clones on store shelves.
I got one of these guys a couple of days ago. Unfortunately mine had a warped body armor. The chest plate was slightly stretched out and the paint wasn't applied correctly as a result. But I'm definitely gonna be grabbing another one!
Hello Nate thanks for sharing your thoughts on the new Appo Clone Trooper figure. I just got Appo last Friday with battle damaged Vader from The Kenobi series and they look amazing. I've only ordered one Appo because of my limited budget so far. I'm also hopeful they might go on clearance eventually or at least be available for ordering later. I've got Appo beside my two Archive 501 and he doesn't look to off but they look closer in shadow not directly lit IMO. Thanks Nate for reviewing this figure, I do want to get another eventually. Take care sir and I'll catch you later. Your friend Tom
really interesting they made the torso armor a free separate part and the knees free float. I think it look good but I wish the knee pads were just part of the shin like in the vintage collection to make it less fiddly.
100% agreed! I’m really not sure why the paints are all different. I really wanna know why they went so light on the coloring here. Thanks for watching Gerald! -Nate
Great review Nate, got this guy in hand last week and he’s fantastic! I initially didn’t buy into the hype because even though I still wanted an Appo for the collection, I’m not a huge “cloner,” but I gotta say, he’s easily the best clone in the line! I can see myself buying another just so I can put a custom arrow helmet on him to make a TCW Appo and leaving my current one as just a regular 501st grunt.

I’ve seen three in stores. I bought one. If the blue was closer I would have bought two or three. It’s $28 so a little more out of the pocket to army build these. So I’ll enjoy the one and Appo will just have a different shade of blue. So now Hasbro….repaint! 104th, 212th, 416th , etc…
That’s fair, I have 2 and I think that’s all I’ll need (unless he somehow ends up on clearance) I think the plain White will be a masterpiece though! Thanks for watching Prophet! -Nate
Didn't hear it mentioned, but the flattening of the top of the thigh armor is a nice change. It should make it easier to pose in leg up poses whereas the older clones had pointy tops to their thigh armor, making you twist it to get into a leg up pose. Also, they missed the triangle on Appo's helmet.
Okay so a weird thing that happened when I got mine, I got two, and one of them had no blue rectangle on their back, while the other one did, weird little quality control error Appo I have now
Left these for another collector at Target. Going to army build the upcoming TVC Phase II Troop Builder set 501st/332nd/Phase II(X2). Much easier to army build at $14.99 vs $27.99.
Yep that still makes this figure inconsistent with the rest of the 501st. Our point still stands. Kenobi costume designers should've make it an accurate shade of blue in the show. -Justin
I love army building troopers but the 2020 update really bothered me, this has basically alleviated and fixed every issue I had. I still hate the loss of double joints but for troopers it works fine.
Hell yeah! I just found a bunch at target, and picked up two. I’m rewatching the review as I open them, and I’ve got bicep & elbow swivel! I think the joint at the elbow is just a bit stiff and blocked a bit by the armor, but it’s there, awesome! This is a fantastic figure. I don’t buy all the clones, but I will now. Is the all white CT from Bad Batch going to be on this body?
Great stuff! Thansk for checking out the review. The new CT in the Clone Wars box (the one in an upcoming mainline wave) is indeed on this body. -Justin
So, when it comes to the 501st shade of blue, there are actually a number of different blues used in canon. So ALL of the varying shades of blue on the different figures are canonically accurate.
That may be true, but I’d still like a little consistency with the figures. This particular figure (Appo) was in a flashback of ROTS. Therefor these clones should be the same shade of blue as ROTS. -Justin
@OutOfTheBasement This figure is not based on ROTS, though. It is based on the Kenobi show and the shade of blue and many of the other details are nearly 100% accurate to that show. I can understand wanting a bit more consistency, but this figure is accurate to the design it's based on.
Yes I understand that the figure is accurate to Kenobi. It's the fault of the Kenobi series for not being accurate to ROTS. You were talking about canon differences, this particular one isn't the case. Both ROTS and Kenobi are canon so they should each be consistent. At least with the shade of blue.@@CloneCommanderCrater1102

I just can’t get past it because I’m looking for that realistic rendition/proportions. But to others, it doesn’t bother them.
