- MY JOURNEY TO PHILIPPINES HAPPY ISLAND!
From Lucban, I took a long, winding route to Tabaco, the jump-off point for Catanduanes - my 80th province!
Narrow alleyways in Calauag, the last municipality of Quezon, to Daet, where I met Neng and Don who have a family farm! It was good to see how others operate!
Then onwards through the rain to Iriga and I finally ate at Biggs Diner!
Day 3 and I made the short hop to Tabaco Port in Albay; now, it was time to take on the ocean another time and visit the Happy Island - the largest producer of abaca in the world, and somewhere so rugged yet so beautiful.
I'm excited to explore Catanduanes even more...

I now realize that when you travel the whole Philippines from the northern part Batanes of Luzon to the sourthern tips of Mindanao there are lots and lots expats living in the country with their Filipino partners for quite a long time.

I have to say that Bicol and Catanduanes are beautiful places - very scenic! My PH bucket list keeps growing with every vlog you put out.

10:46 + I miss those fruits: the macopa and the yellow ones we call tambis which the guy called passion fruit. I haven’t had them for years (50+). As far as I know they are found only in Bicol.

Thanks for highlighting our country kd. Many Filipinos are not aware that our country is that progressive in terms of roads, buuldings and other facilities. We thought of many rough roads, nipa houses and descripit facilities yet seemed those things are of the past. Continue inspiring us KD because most of us cannot go around the country.

The Nhel & the night umbrella anecdote was one of the most whimsical indicators that KD’s home = Philippines. Anselm’s voice would be so great in narrating (of course travel or history radio/podcasts), but also children’s’ books. I think others have commented the same.

KD in the mid 90s, the Andaya highway, shorter way to Naga, was not yet completed. The old route was really what you took, via Daet.

Try next time turn at Pili, go to the Cam Sur north, get on that coastal rd to Tiwi and to Tabaco. Its stuning drive

@@mariceldl738 No. I have heard and read comments from people living in Catanduanes that the governor and vice governor there are pure Chinese and they want it checked out. They are the CUA brothers. They also said that they have seen Chinese ships in the area, and that there are too many Chinese there, and that they own and control most of the businesses there.
