    Great video. One more thing to consider is the Equinox you're using has the 15" coil. The Deus II is only using an 11". That should have given the Equinox an advantage. So those results are pretty impressive. I love my Equinox 800, but I'm glad I ordered the Deus II.

    • @adamthtguy9098
      @adamthtguy9098 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No he didn't use the 15" on this test you can check time stamps and see that the coil on the equinox 800 is the same size or an inch smaller. But the XP Deus 2 outperforms the Nox 800 in this test.

      With bigger coils it will be harder to pinpoint smaller targets.

    Steve; You put the EQX at a serious disadvantage and handicapped it by using the Beach 2 mode (page 25 of the manual). It reduces the transmit power by 50% in order to mitigate ground and/or salt noise. I'd suggest using that mode only if those issues are experienced or present, not in a fair test.

      I was thinking the same thing, maybe should have done the test in Beach 1.

      Watch Calabash's videos at the beach between the two......No funny business & he shows it on the targets!....Also, notice how he can lift the coil higher off the ground & still be able to hit the target with the D2 & the Equinox loses the signal.........He didn't pull any tricks with the settings either!

    Thank you Gigmaster for taking your time to evaluate the two detectors. I have a detecting buddy that just received his Deus II yesterday and am looking forward to his ongoing evaluation of it. As you say, time will tell. I absolutely love my Equinox and would be hard pressed to switch to another detector with its learning curve. As innovative as Minelab is, I wouldn’t doubt that they are also testing the new Deus II against Equinox and working on something to bring to market in the next couple years. I may hold out for that. Once again, a BIG THANK YOU!!

  • @fredcooper7252
    @fredcooper7252 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Minelab machines tend to outperform air tests on wet sand. The Deus 1 underperformed so it will be interesting to see what happens with the Deus 2. I wouldn't ever recommend using the factory setting on the Equinox either, they are just so dumbed down as to be useless. The only meaningful test would be to set up both machines as you would actually use them and compare real signals. We did try to do this in the UK but we got some strange results which we now think might have been the Nox interfering with the Deus II. I'll decide whether to buy a Deus II once they have been given a more thorough workout by other people. Looking forward to seeing Gigmaster take it back to the beach very soon.

      @Mr.Technical77 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. Minelab factory settings are the equivalent of 80%, whereas the Deus 2 is running 95% right out of the box. It’s not apples to apples, and rarely has testing head to head been done by kneecapping either unit constrained by factory presets rather than edge of stability

    Been using my equinox for about four years now. I feel I do pretty good with it. I really hope Minelab solves some of its problems with small gold chains and rings. I also wish something could be done about detectors picking up foil and gold on the same numbers. But I do not see any reason to put out that much money for the little bit of depth. Not sure at 75 years of age I’m up to a new learning curve. Thanks got your honest opinion!!!

    Great video, Gigmaster. Dang, I wanted to see the tabulated results at the end of the test. What, did I miss viewing it? At least I know the air at your place is the same as the air at my house. Now I know how the D2 depth stacks up against my detectors.
    I think that to be a fair comparison, I would try to match up settings as close as possible with regards to recovery speed, sensitivity, etc.. Regardless, it's still a good comparison. The other thing people have to realize is that the 'Nox is a 3-4 year old design. Benchmark a 3-4 year old top of the line PC with a present top of the line PC and one would expect an increase in performance, otherwise it's money wasted on the new PC. Keep Digging, Gigmaster.

    Gig, there are several things to think about. 1. The price you mentioned, 2. Personally I think the Equinox is easier to learn the adjustments, 3. Is it worth the price for several inches deeper There are pluses for the XP 1 the light weight 2. Depth 3. Warranty Thanks for taking the time and doing a great job to educate us.

    As you say, the air test lets YOU compare different detectors regardless of soil conditions, so you'll have something to compare once you actually detect in YOUR conditions. Once you use them in your soils, you'll know more. That helps us see the relative effectiveness of each detector and how they might compare in OUR conditions. Thanks for doing this, I really appreciate it.

    Hey, nice job Gig Man! I'm surprised with the results, I've been real happy with the depth, and precision, of my Nox, found many items at 16"+. In your video the coil appears to be pointed slightly above your swing zone as you move further from the coil. I'm guessing that may have influenced the results. Great review though, it will be interesting to see how the new Manticore compares, I'm hoping it is the monster they claim.

  • @Detectken
    @Detectken 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Gigmaster, I believe the XP Deus 2 Beach Sensitive is geared towards land based detecting. Equinox’s Beach 1 is it’s wet/dry land detection mode. So, Beach 1 should be used for the comparison.
    I know you are just using the factory settings, but I think many NOX users probably hunt the beach at a recovery speed of around 3. The Equinox 800 has a recovery/reactivity speed range of 1-8. My air tests show the NOX gaining an inch of depth per # dropped on recovery speed. Going from a factory set recovery speed of 6, down to 3, would likely increase depth by 3 inches on the NOX. This would also better mimic the Deus 2 Beach Sensitive program.
    The Deus 2 Beach Sensitive uses its lowest recovery/reactivity speed of 0. It has a range of 0-5. Calabash uses it at 1. Like the Equinox, a lower recovery/reactivity speed means seeing deeper targets.

    I think an air test is worth. However my point is the problem of using factory settings in a comparison test. The Equinox was made so as to meet the understanding level of beginners. Thus the factory settings such as recovery speed and iron bias 6 and sensitivity 20. On the other hand, just looking at its price, the Deus II was designed for advanced detectorists. In addition, XP had the Equinox as reference during the Deus II development, and so they would never preset the Deus II in a way that it could look worse than or the same as the Equinox. I'm not saying that the the Deus II isn't better than the Equinox 800, but a testing with factory presets is no doubt biased due to the factors I mentioned. Continue doing comparisons and posting the videos. 👍

      @burriedhistory I agree with what your saying I had the same thoughts if it was my test I would have adjusted both machines sensitivity until They started to break up and back them down just until they were each stable and conducted the test from there, this way they were at the max sensitivity for the area, and the results would be more accurate IMHO. Default settings is not apples to apples! Otherwise it was a good video.

    The thing about an air test is that, if it won’t hit it at a certain depth in the air GENERALLY it won’t hit it that deep in the ground. I’ve had situations with old whites units that I got 8 or 9 inch penny’s in the ground but wouldn’t quite hit that deep in the air though. Haven’t had a more modern detector record that phenomenon yet but it may happen.

    For me and unless ML has solved the NOX flooding, that alone is a reason to water hunt with D2. Especially when I travel out of country. I sometimes detect for hours in the sea and so far 3 NOXs and 2 3030s have flooded in shallow water! I'm interested in how the D2 does in Dive, detecting shallow saltwater. In the surf I'm more interested in detecting big gold. I'm hoping the D2 is stable in the Dive program and hits gold rings deep. I do not care about chasing small gold and related trash in rough surf conditions. I'm also very interested in how the D2 performs in heavy black sand? The EXCAL and CTX 3030 lose lots of depth in black sand. The NOX overloads and the few such beaches I hunt almost require a PI. Since the D2 has black sand adjust, that might be of serious value? Would love seeing how well D2 does on gold rings in black salt sand? Still waiting for my D2.

    I got my DEUS II a few days ago and I’ve only walked through my yard once, but something I noticed is that several times I got signals reading 99, dimes are 90-91 so what is 99? So I dug one and it was a small silver ring, DEUS I read 97-98 like a quarter so I’m thinking that 99 is a high conductor target the machine doesn’t know how to classify.. 🤷🏼‍♂️ anyone else had this happen ?

    If memory serves me correctly, I believe the Equinox Beach 2 mode is less sensitive than Beach 1 mode. Wouldn't the test with beach modes have been better performed with the Equinox in Beach 1? From what I've read the Equinox Beach 2 mode, which is recommended for use in saltwater, is made less sensitive to compensate for the mineralization in saltwater whereas Beach 1, which is recommended for dry and wet sand, does not have the lower sensitivity.
    Thank you for the side-by-side test none the less. Always interesting material in your videos! Always enjoyable.
