- Welcome to another Don't Starve Together guide! Troubled Waters is now live in the beta branch of Don't Starve Together and I'm here to cover everything new in this update. This is the fifth major release of updates under the Return of Them theme and adds new ocean mobs, foods, craftables, structures, and eight new crockpot recipes. It also adds leafy meat as a crockpot ingredient and renewable volt goat herds. She Sells Seashells went live in April 2020. An Island fragment of the moon has left a lonely creature stranded. Is it friendly? Time will tell. New features include messages in bottles, the moon fragment island, the Crabby Hermit, Crab King, new seasonal fish, the Wobster and Wobster Den the Winch Boat structure, sunken treasures, and singing shells.
Throughout 2019, Klei released a series of game updates available to all players, under the single thematic focus entitled “Return of Them."
"Hook, Line, & Inker" will be remembered as the big fishing update. We finally have the tools we need to go sailing and fish around literally anywhere in the ocean. This update added over a dozen new ocean mobs, three new crockpot recipes, and tons of new craftable items and structures. Most of these new additions are tailored toward the goal of dramatically expanding the fishing experience in DST. So stick around to the end while I attempt to cover everything!
Charlie’s machinations have come to a head as she turns her attention towards the skies - and the mysterious entity that awaits there. Our Survivors will be forced to contend with terrifying monstrosities beyond their comprehension, and yet, there may be a silver lining: their minds and horizons will be expanded under the sublime light of an ancient moon.
Here is an overview of what was added in the first update, "Turn of Tides:"
Added a new multiplayer-centric boat mechanic, where players can build and deck out a boat for multiple survivors to travel together on
Added a new Seafaring crafting menu
Added the Lunar Island
Added Enlightenment
Added 3 new Lunar Island biomes, along with new creatures, objects, and craftables
Turn of Tides focused primarily on building the fundamental tech and infrastructure for Return of Them. Since then a significant amount of content has added to both the islands and the sea.
Don't Starve Together is the standalone multiplayer expansion of the uncompromising wilderness survival game, Don't Starve. Now including Reign of Giants; adding new characters, seasons, creatures, biomes, and Giant new challenges to Don’t Starve Together. Cooperate with your friends in a private game, or take your chances with strangers online. Work with other players to survive the harsh environment, or strike out on your own. Do whatever it takes, but most importantly, Don't Starve.

I'm so glad this update psuedo buffed Wormwood a bit. His friendliness with hostile plants perk got the short end of the stick in DST.
Oh boy, the new terrorclaw looks dangerous. Welp, so much for escaping shadows at sea. Good on Klei for the pressure. But I'm scared now. Also Davey Jones putting boat bases at risk!

As a Wormwood and Warly main, I was VERY pleased with this update. It’s everything we could’ve dreamed of, more plants, more food, and more skins!
Still kinda wish Worm could befriend tree guards..
"Did you hear that Wigfrid mains?" OH YES I DID, it was great that they made Taffy available for Wigfrid , but man that Leafy salad is SO SO MUCH BETTER. Time to make a leafy meat farm!
Wigfrid can eat taffy now! The change was very quietly rolled out last year.

Im so happy! The cool new leafy recipies and the volt goats are sweet as a wigfrid main! Im sooo excited. Can lure plants still go on boats without spawning eye plants? Im pretty sure they still do.
Yeah last time I checked they do. Even if they nerfed that it wouldn't be a huge deal, just returf the nearby land.

finally a way to increase voltgoat herds, now I don't need to do that duping glitch and feel disgusted with the world I was playing on XD
I can imagine Jelly salad be super useful for Fuelweaver, given that you often fight him lategame, and there should already be a good amount of lureplants spawn and a bee farm.

God, wavey Jones is just the worst. You can't get rid of him, and sometimes he spawns behind a structure so there is simply nothing you can do except trying to keep your sanity extraordinary high.
But I do love this update :)
Wow. Never thought Lureplants will be OP... in DST. Poor ROG, Shipwrecked, and Hamlet users like myself (besides the Hamlet part).

According to Maxwell's quote for think tank (Let's see if Higgsbury's ideas hold any water), Wilson's quote for deck illuminator (I'm full of bright ideas) and Max's/Winona's quotes for Fire pump (Higgsbury, I think bucket would sufice/Why do I get the feeling that this is that funny-haired scientist handywork?) it's safe to says that Wilson inveted everything in the seafaring tab.

If you need more reasons to farm honey: taffy, honey ham, and honey nuggets!
being a wigfrid main I find it harder to *go* insane so I never really make taffy, and ham and nuggos just take too long to cook for me XD
I person love the designs of the new mobs. The stone shark (or whatever) looks so cool! The sea weed all being different is also a cool tuch!
I can cap my mast to protect from lightning, but absolutely no new food options as a Wurt main. FeelsWurtMan
this is a wigfrid update. they added similkar dishes for meat which already exist as veg versions. gg jazzy

wow i was seeing the post on the last update and the klei dev said he will think about it to make teh goats renewable. all suggestions from players were cheating options which i didnt like. but this is genius what he did. thx for showing jazzy

I love it all, new ocean enemies, new allies of wormwood, new amazing crokpot dishes and new shadow creatures, all of this gives the ocean alot more stuff to do, and it gives me hope for an eventuall "insanity/shadow update"!

The new recipes present a perplexing decision that we all must now make.
Are they better than the previous go-to recipes?
Mainly, Beefy Greens vs. Pierogi.
Pierogi is significantly easier to make since it only requires 1 veggie. Unless you manage to rush the Lunar Island or can set up a Bunny farm quick, then that’s a big deal!
The other conflict is Jelly Salad vs. Taffy.
Taffy is significantly cheaper due to the sheer abundance and low spoilage time of honey. However, due to how much Taffy you need to make, you’ll have to have tons of crockpots. The issue with Jelly Salad is that it’s expensive. Those 2 Leafy Meats could go towards making Pierogi, Meatballs, or Beefy Greens. So, it seems like the choice should be made given the resources you have at the moment.
The Leafy Meat change is incredible regardless. It still changes Lureplants from egg machines to a must have until a bunny farm is made.
how is that - at first you were using leafy meat and 3 veggies and you got meatballs, then you did the same and you got beefy greens?
Where did you see the leafy meat + 3 veggies making meatballs? You need to use full value veggies for beefy greens so if you use any kelp, mushrooms, or cactus flowers you get meatballs.

Jelly salad recipe got a slight nerf in yesterday's update. It's still a very good recipe.
WOW I completely missed this update! I'm so glad I found this video. All I knew was that I had missed SOMETHING but I had no idea what it was, I mainly noticed because I was able to craft mast attachments, and I always just went for the lightning rod mast thing, which I still haven't gotten to see how it works.
I couldn't care less about barnacles, but those leafy meat recipies are pure gold.
Who needs pierogi when you have beefy greens? Also sanity management is so much easier with jelly salad. I mean seriously, I picked Woodie to use his transformations to their full potential. All that sanity drain from four transformations in a row gets negated from 3-4 jelly salads.
I rarely bothered making lureplant farms. I usualy made it when I was bored and realised I had like 20 lureplants in a chest. Now they are one of my first farms I make (well... when spring hits of course).

This update gets me really excited! Haven't been so excited for an update before lol.
Wtf happened to don’t starve. It went from wilderness survival into fishing simulator. The beta and the none together version was in my opinion the most normal and good thing about ds. But now this? Have a big discord server with your friends and there friends and there family members or friends and your family members and the family members of your friends and well build a new and better hamland city. Where everybody is on a 50+ people server where everyone is doing something else. Where it ain’t a real starve together. More like a gang wars together where everybody has it’s own clan. You don’t need an rpg maker you have don’t starve together. So you have unlimited possibilities from city rp to Vikings vs knights. It’s good in its own way but I just want a standard no no sweet ds experience.

Oh shit you can make more volt herds now (I think Helicalpuma may be happier now!) I hope that is also with beefalo! (Maybe winter in grasslands or something)?
This only works with goat herds for now, however I believe Psam mentioned once that you can create a new beefalo herd by letting a fully-domesticated beefalo turn feral.
@@JazzysGames Ok. I just hope the beef hunt gets added as sometimes herds can get wiped by deerclops or somethin and nothing can be done about it.

Wurt needs a buff bum rushing king construction isn't that thrilling and spending hours and days looking for swamp is a massive hassle
they should have made those dishes both meat and vegetable so both wurt and wig could use it, being the one family of dishes they could both eat.

Troubled waters looks amazing the new dishes are very useful and make me want to explore the oceans for barnacles and am excited to have new threats in the oceans. As of now I still think the oceans are a bit bland but I think in one or two more updates enough biomes and mobs will fill up the oceans into a area full of life. I think the next update should have more stuff come inland from the sea or maybe add merm fisherman back from shipwrecked to go on their own special boats and have trades with survivors (discounts for wurt also).

New stuff is always welcomed. Though making goats not limited is cheezy. Their horns are really rare and worth item, adding goats to suspicies track was ackward to me.
If it's any consolation, spawning a new herd is very difficult. Took me like five tries to get a hunt that didn't lead me out of the Oasis desert.
