As a Portuguese person who is constantly fighting the lusotropicalist idea that Portugal did "benign colonialism", this video is an excelent asset. As always, thank you for the excelent videos!
@@solangedere7685must say that you hate Portugal, because I've different times in Brazil and was always welcomed. Here, in Portugal, we've now plenty immigrants from Brazil and integrate easily in our society...
Not a fan of it obviously, but objectively speaking The New State's lusotropicalism was far better than British, French and Portuguese Royal cplonialism
Strange, you are against Gilberto Freyre's lusotropicalism, but you support the arrival of former colonized people in Portugal! Lusotropicalism! Hypocrisy!
I missed your videos terribly. I would come on here every now and again to check if there has been any new updates. Super elated to see a new upload and I hope you keep them coming. Your writing, narration, cadence, etc everything on this channel is just outstanding. I personally don’t care much for the visuals. I think you have the best writing among African history channels. Congratulations to you, you have started something great and I really hope you keep them coming this time. Big, big fan! Your break allowed other similar channels to catch up, but I know you will leave them in the dust as you have returned.
It's the excitement in my eyes when I saw a new video from new Africa. It's sooo good to have you back. I hooooope this time we have more back to back to back of your amazing content
And also a big thank you to the makers of this video/documentary. Your iconic voice and broad knowledge is much needed. And there is a lot of work probably to find all that footage.
Honestly, this is the best documentary that I've seen about mozambican history. Many thanks for all the insights and detailed points of this beautiful country's history.
How we longed for a notification from this informative channel. Welcome back NewAfrica. ❤ Suggestion: Can you please also do a video on Rwanda civil war. These really helps in class when teaching history.
I had the pleasure of visiting Mozambique last year. It has beautiful people, lovely beaches, delicious seafood, and superb hospitality. I can't wait to go back! ❤
35:39 I am glad you have continued to showcase a more nuanced view of these African struggles. Such as showing that the collectivisation of agriculture failed so badly that people fled to be with racist.
Man I was worried there for a while I thought this channel was abandoned and just when I happen to check back a new video is up that same day Thank the algorithm and African Biographics for having NewAfrica recommend right after
Welcome back from a long hiatus! This episode is very informative! I look forward to more on other African nations. Perhaps you can delve into Agostino Neto's Angola and Amilcar Cabral's Guinea Bissau also?
Was constantly checking the end of the video to see if you'll mention Samora Machel's tragic death. But fine that you didn't mention it. Good for the story to end on a hopeful note.
Thank you for the observation. The focus of this particular video was on the revolution itself hence why it ended on this note. We are considering doing a Part 2 of this which will then focus on post-independence Mozambique and the lead up/aftermath of his death. That side of the story has so much context which we didn't want to gloss over by trying to fit it all in one video ❤️

While I am bot really bothered by the use of AI images, it would be nice if you could label which ones are AI and which are real. Since it's hard to distinguish them. Great video as always 👍
The propaganda about portuguese "good colonialism" early on video was quite infuriating. As a Brazilian, I wish the best for my irmãos and irmãs in Moçambique
Its not just the Portuguese, I have heard British, etc. say that the Portuguese colonies in Africa had no racism because there was no "Europeans Only" signs like in South Africa, the Portuguese often intermarried with blacks/mulatas and Eusébio the most well known Portuguese athlete of the 1960s was a black Mozambican.
Am i correct in asuming that some of the coloured, highly saturated images (as well as some of the black and white) used in this documentary were AI created? If so please make sure to _clearly_ mark such pictures in the future, perhaps something along the lines of "AI generated representation of [insert person/thing here]" so as to not confuse viewers wether or not what they're looking at is actual historical documentation or not.
Mainstream historiography tends to agree that Mondlane and Machel were not in the same schools of thought. Machel and Dos Santos were the radicals while Moldlane and Chissero were the moderates, and apparently it was the marxists who sometimes expressed critisism of assimilados and white Mozambicans. Simango was on a controversial wing on his own apparently.
We're back yes! but it certainly is the same voice, but perhaps there is difference in sound due to our slightly different approach to this production.
3 years later and back with a content from my country. 🇲🇿 Thank you
Good to be back! Hope you enjoy it ❤️🇲🇿

Now, fifty years on, Mozambique is facing mayhem. Mozambicans are sick and tired of Frelimo's rule that brought famine and shattered towns
Is this Eduardo Mondlane in any way related to the main opposition party leader Mondlane of our times?
