Great footage…. I remember visiting in the 80s when I went to Newby First School on a trip and having a show round. Brings back memories watching this.
Great video, feels like the work has been going for sometime, but looks amazing, I'd forgotten it was the site of the old court, I never appeared there.
Thanks for your kind words! About not appearing there ha ha ha that's hilarious! Certainly a very imposing lovely looking building the Court House - shame it was demolished, I wonder what happened to all the stone work ?
That's the first time I've seen the inside of that building. I remember seeing it at night when the printing press was running. I used to deliver T&As in my neighbourhood when I was in my teens. A few times the papershop owner would collect the T&As himself from the back of the building on Drake Street if the delivery was late and I would sometimes accompany him.
This would make an amazing restaurant and bar and the traffic situation means it is prime for taxis. If this was a bigger city you could see someone like Dishoom or The Ivy taking it on. I hope whoever has it makes it into a really nice bar and restaurant and live music venue - that would be awesome and try breathe some life into the city - this and Bradford Live could be epic.
At night you could see the printing press as the lights were on inside the press hall. I remember it being built. It is a super addition to the older building next door.
@@TheBradfordDistrictChannel It was fascinating. It was opposite the bus stop where I used to wait for the bus. So I would watch them printing an edition of the paper.
Wow! I worked there 1986 - 1992. Night shifts printing the then new daily paper Independent and Sunday Observer. Most of the interior has been stripped out, but at 6 min, 20 secs there's still the original chrome railings and swing gate at what used to be steps into the Reel Room. I'll have gone through that gate hundreds of times.
It must have been a great place to work in. The next video on the building will show areas not covered in this one as well as the refurb progress. Thank you for watching.
It was completely crazy, aged 18, I earned more than my dad. It was very much the 1980s; no equal opportunities as recruitment was based on 'your face fitting' or being related to someone who worked there. Having done a year at printing college in Bradford. I'd written applying for a job and got an interview. Before I was interviewed my dad made contact, without my knowledge, with the works manager and introduced himself and was shown around. He was a good networker and must have gained the works manager's confidence as I got the job the next day. What great restaurant the building would make. Hopeful 2025 City of Culture will help Bradford.
Another great upload matey! You've also documented the latter stages of the street pedestrianisation of Hall Ings from high above as well as the initial rebirth of the old print room. Nice one 👌
Hi, once again thank you for your kind words & really enjoyed filming it, going back again soon! Glad you liked it and I've archived footage of that area for future reference as the development continues.
Thank you, yeah very true unfortunately a sign of the times most news is online and accessed via phones\tablets etc but you can't beat Newspapers, especially for Fish & Chips!
Imtiaz sorry this has nothing to do with the t&a ,but if you go menston and turn right at buckle lane you will see a car garage on your left and an ambulance station on your right and behind that you will see a little chapel with a small metal plaque on the gate post ,it tells you that the little bit of land is where 2500 former patients of of the former highroyds hospital are buried in about a 200sqm plot of land next to the chapel The history of high royds hospital is absolutely fascinating and would make a very interesting video the hospital served a huge part of yorkshire and surrounding area ,there is much info online about it , it could make a great video
@@ricardoricardo8987 Thank you, Ilkley and Menston etc are areas in the District we're looking at doing material on and what you've mentioned I'll certainly look at. Once again thank you.
Iconic building & interesting to see inside... I see the pedestrian areas are coming along... would be good if Bradford actually had some pedestrians..😅😅
My brother had a tour of the building in the early 80's shortly after it was built because he was studying photography, he took some pictures of the workers and huge 2 story printing presses, I remember watching them in winter when the light shone out the speed of the paper flying through the presses was impressive how it didn't tear to piece at that speed.

wow Imtiaz awesome to see from another angle
When staying in Bradford if I returned to my hotel late at night I used to like to see the press running.
looks very different without all the heavy machinery
It does, I wonder where it all went?
Iconic building & interesting to see inside...

Lets hope we see an increase in pedestrians, maybe its down to the Darley St Market to be a pulling factor ?
