This is absolutely stunning. Thank you. I am writing a new biography of Claude Grahame-White and this was the plane that he flew for the London-Manchester race against Paulhan (who also flew a Farman). I've been trying to get real feel for what he would have experienced and this is really great!
In the 1965 movie “Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines” Stewart Whitman is asked if his plane is a Wright. He replied “No, it’s a Curtiss.” But it just didn’t look to me like anything Glen L. ever made. Then I noticed that, on the ground, the ailerons were hanging straight down. And then I realized it was a Farman. They used single-wire control to pull them down, and airflow to push them up.
That is badass, I would like to see more about this project if you have anything.
