I have never been keen on very noisy bikes, as I use my bikes for everyday transport. But last year I bought a small bike for town transport, being Euro 5, it was whisper quiet, eventually I knocked out a couple of baffles, not because I wanted to make more noise, but because I got fed up with smartphone zombies stepping out directly in front of me.

Just buy a new "muffler" that has no muffling whatsoever so it looks like it has a muffler, but is basically straight piped. Then you can say "I don't know why its so loud, the muffler is on."

Anyone who is fortunate enough to have a vintage Triumph, deserves the right to run it however they want. I was around in the 50's and 60's when Triumphs were truly simply great motorcycles. I am 82, and my 99 Harley Softail Custom has open drag pipes. But I live a couple of miles from a small town.
But I have a soft spot in me for vintage Triumphs. I have ridden many but the 650c with the high pipes, single carb, and knobby tires was a hoot to ride in the dirt or on the road.

I prefer fitting rear footrests at 45 degrees angle so they folds upwards/backwards. Back in the sixties many of us had straight pipes. But they shall be longer. Otherwise you gets less power. Pipes about the length of the muffler. Also bigger main jets. Got bad hearing back then.
Funny thing, fitted an original muffler instead of an aftermarket to the Vincent. Much louder and plus 7 Mph top speed.

Probably the most plentiful models are the T140 Bonneville 750s from the 70s and early 80s, which are cheaper than the 60s 650s, certainly here in the UK. You can still buy almost all the parts for these, new, off the shelf from quite a few specialists, so they are a very practical classic to own (I've had my 78 T140V for 29 years now). I tried starting mine up a few years ago without the silencers (mufflers) fitted to see what it sounded like, but, to be honest, it wasn't much louder than with the Norton style pea-shooters it normally has (they are straight-through anyway).

A straight pipe is loud. However if you really want to hear something great, put a set of Megaphones on the straight pipe. I have seen many of the old Triumph's, Norton Manx, Commando's, BSA Gold Stars, AJS, Benneli, etc race at the Vintage TT races. You really should find the closest Vintage TT race and you will be amazed! I put a set of performance TT pipes on my Bonneville with built in silencers. The silencers are short little pea shooter type mufflers. They are very loud when I ride hard. Not too bad if I take it easy. The pipe is oversize on these pipes. I had to rejet up three sizes on account of the pipes and K+N filters. You can gain a nice amount of power by improving the breathing on your bike.

They run leaner and pump harder with out the muffler. Your twin is a slight change compared to a what a 1977 Honda 750Four four into one changes to with the muffler removed. It turns into a Lion from a pussy cat.

Yes, it was fun for a short while for you and your daughter, but no mufflers kills your torque on low revs and during acceleration and the feeling the bike got faster is just a feeling nothing more. Makes your fuel consumption lower as well and certainly annoys neighbors, and everybody riding / driving behind you. Other than that original Triumph exhaust has such a great sound not too laud but with this bass undertone in it. Makes it sound like a much bigger motorcycle than it really is.
