RKLB also benefits from the SpaceX effect; i.e., since most folks can’t invest in SpaceX, RKLB really is the next closest thing to ‘the next SpaceX” that the non-space public can really invest in; not really any other alternative. - Dave Huntsman
Nice update Dave. It certainly is easy to reflect back and say ‘I wish I bought more’ as many do, but I’ve held firm to what was committed was enough given the risk. Great to see the stocks up. It may still be a rollercoaster yet but it’s a long term ride on a company I have a deep belief in and also their ability to find their niche and execute profitably in time. I recall we both thought via X that RLKB had jumped up earlier than expected. It sure has! But I’m far more comfortable with the holding now because of it. 2025 could be massive if they execute all they have planned on time.
Nice summary at start - Arnold underground as TSLA was the cherry on the cake - and congrats for the returns. Went from zero to all in RKLB right after rate cut - have no others in your portfolio - no options nor trading, just holding for long.
That was great, Dave! Missed your reporting and analysis, thank you for bringing this to us and sharing your strategy and decisions on your portfolio. Really helps a lot. Looks like you made some very good and careful decisions.
MIT has a page on Morning Star Venus missions. First will be the Rocket Lab Venus Life Finder with targeted launch Jan 2025, that's in 2-3 months. The next missions are 2026 series of Venus habitability missions, and 2041 Venus cloud sample return mission. If Rocket Lab does the 1st mission well, it has a chance for more business with these subsequent progressively more sophisticated planetary science missions. And a successful MSR, if Rocket Lab is so lucky to get it, would further help as a reference.
A bottom line difference between Redwire and RocketLab: RocketLab is a ‘well-integrated” company; even as it’s done acquisitions, its management has ended up making sure that its parts make up a better integrated whole. I don’t consider Redwire really ‘integrated’ per se; it’s more an amalgam- a collection- of the companies they’ve acquired. The parts do Not synergistically help each other and the greater whole like the equivalent on RocketLab. So that’s essentially kudos to Peter Beck, and the Board of Directors that supports him. - Dave Huntsman
This ☝ - I have been in multiple big Silicon Valley companies and it is unbelievable how badly most acquisitions end up after absorption. I was blown away reading how well Beck and team actually was able to make all their acquisitions fire with all cylinders after the mergers. That alone pointed to exceptional execution. Add to this technology execution and we are talking about an exceptional company. Long RKLB.
Hi Mark, if you don't mind sharing I'm curious how you get on with FIF tax. Do you have an accountant that calculates it for you? How much does it work out to be, as a percentage of your portfolio? I'm just under the $50k limit on overseas shares and would like to keep buying RKLB but don't want too much hassle. Cheers
I had to sell my RDW and a fourth of my RKLB position when i came close to a real estate buy that unfortunately did not happen in the end. Bought back into RDW but left RKLB unchanged, it is still my second largest holding as of now. RDW is now half the position size as before but i am going to add more on pullbacks just as usual. I also added a new but small position in ASTS which i intend to grow further. It is painful to sell such positions after all these years of holding especially when they are finally in the green and continue climbing. Thankfully they did not run too much since my sell.
Hopefully you won't have too big of a tax bill with those capital gains! I am also looking at a new house soon ish and will be needing to make some sales :(
IMO RKLB is a multi-bagger from current only near-IPO level, given the many huge growth catalysts (Neutron, deep space/MSR, satellite division, constellation biz, nat sec launch and satellites) and Sir Peter's and team's excellent technological and financial execution record. The end-to-end vision provides long term competitiveness and a big moat in the fast growing soon trillion-dollar TAM space industry.
Welcome to Redwire, would like your take on constellations vs habitats vs in space manufacturing vs on surface ops, ect. For business growth, profit, ect.
Looks like markets will have a correction thanks to the Fed suddenly refusing to continue interest lowering. Unfortunately the small cap will suffer from this more than large cap as now money again wants to go from risk to safety. I wish the Fed would stop the long lasting policy that so hurts investing in new businesses.
@@daveginvesting That's the positive take as (I share this view) RKLB has unique huge company-specific catalysts and if the upswing without news turns to correction, news will have a bigger relative impact up. NASA days ago published the MSR committee and select criteria where timeliness was underlined, architecture recommendation result due by end of year. MIT representation (Venus mission) in steering, ESCAPADE situation, Neutron progress and certain other tidbits make me think RKLB has an improving chance. Hoping for a positive outcome.
He did like a month ago. The EO industry as a whole might be undervalued, but it’s also kind of a crap business. That said I at least have a small position in BKSY.

Dumped Redwire today after nice run. Cash flow is there Achilles heel. Holding Rocket Lab. Look for 10-15% pullback around 13. Then again, my crystal does get foggy sometimes.
So you think $LuNR has more upside potential?
