So, I fully respect the restoration and modification of these old consoles. I grew up playing rugrats in Paris, on the gameboy color with a snake light. They should absolutely be preserved. But I have to ask, the enthusiasts of these retro mods, why not pick up one of the many clones that float around china? Maybe you have both. Maybe you're just into collecting or original hardware, but if that's the case, when you're not around your library of games, do you ever have a side handheld?
Don't get me wrong. I had the atomic purple, which I thought was cool as hell, and my dad had the lime green. They're sleek. Aesthetically they cannot be replaced. But, if you have an og gameboy, why not restore it? Like, original. Especially if the case is in good condition. My dad used to keep his in his night stand, and I have no idea what happened to it, but that thing was mint, and he always kept boxes and documents. that was 20 years back, but that thing would probably be worth a small fortune now.
Why use an imitation when this a) makes the usability FAR superior of the real deal, and b) is completely reversible. Let’s be realistic. These things aren’t hugely valuable. I’ve got my original GBC from when I was younger, fired it up and damn near couldn’t see anything. Funny what used to pass as usable.
you can get a pre-trimmed one but most also come with instructions/pics on how to modify your existing shell. Modifying it yourself for this particular mod isn't that difficult.
Where do you get an ips ready shell with the Nintendo branding. I know that Nintendo wouldn't actually be making the shells.... but come on there's got to be a place lol. Or just somewhere I could learn how to trim my original shell for this mod, thanks.

I found an old modded GBA that I bought about 7 years ago and I love the classic Gameboy Advance but I didn't really appreciate the comfort of the directional key on mine, maybe if I change it? I think I find the directional cross more comfortable on the SP version overall. My console is having trouble turning on, I have to force the button. Perhaps because of the humidity it has suffered over time? Keep up your videos, they are very cool, nice work too 👍
How much would you charge me to give my gameboy a backlight? I just got one for my bday on the 16th, but I want to play it at night and want some lit buttons 😩

how did you get the one with the original logo!? I see in the link where you got it but it doesn't specify if the screen is black, grey (like yours apears to be), or if the logo illuminates or if its the original logo? I really want that same one you have with the original logo but a black lens please tell me which one you bought that has the original logo thanks in advance!

Stop ! It's not a backlight mod! you completly change the screen by an IPS. Backlight mod is only for Gameboy Fat and pocket , you keep the original screen and only put a Backlight Behind who only send light to see on the original screen..

Thanks! It’s pre-trimmed. You can pick out a fitted shell from the product page that comes with the kit

My man, that's not a backlight mod, that's an IPS mod since you are replacing the display completely.
Can the lens be replaced if the screen gets scratched or cracked??

How reliable are the touch sensors these days? I read some other modder complaining that they fail after a while and ruin the experience... Thanks
You can add kapton tape to secure it. Or if it fails, you can resolver a wire and copper tape if you have the tools to do so

That black bar under game boy ruins everything
The black bar is only there because there is no cart in the gameboy. When you boot up with a cart it will say Nintendo.
