I didn't think I'd sit here this long watching a guy scratch a coin with a stick but here I am. 🤔

I think two edits are needed, short one with a history lesson and voice over, one with music, uncut and as long as possible, i had this on while working in my shop and was cool to look up every few minutes and see the progress

Wonderful restoration. The back side of the coin with the eagle says in Greek "ΠΤΟΛΕΜΑΙΟΥ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ". In English, "King Ptolemeos".

I really liked the part of the video when you talked about it the history while cleaning the coin it’s kinda like a form of asmr I guess. but also if someone new discovers your channel such as someone who doesn’t collect coins it may get them interested in the history. Great video! sadly though the only ptolemaic coin I have is in a very rough condition.

I think the holes are for aligning to give the coin a full strike. So they wood not be off center punch. I really enjoy you videos. Take care.

A little late to the game, but enjoy your videos and attention to detail. The holes in the designs that you refer to are really no mystery to those who have been involved in ancient numismatics for many years. Obviously the "holes" are created by protrusions on the dies themselves. Since they do not always line up perfectly obverse to reverse, that would tend to eliminate the "lathe" theory. With these larger and thicker bronze pieces, too much heating before striking would also have caused major planchet splitting which I'm sure would have been avoided as much as possible, and you rarely see any major splitting issues on these. Taking this into consideration, the "holes" were very likely just a function of a multiple-strike minting process due to the natural hardness of the bronze alloys and the higher relief design of the dies. The "reference holes" would have allowed for making multiple strikes of the dies with very little die re-alignment problems. Notice too that you will seldom see such die alignment reference "holes" on low relief coin designs of softer metals such as gold or silver.

I traded an envelope of US mint stamps for a small box of assorted Roman territory and empire coins still covered in dirt from Dalmatia . found a few were the devalued silver coated or plated if u will. that was back in the early 90's and have gotten many since. Purchased a metal detector find from Lithuania most of which you couldn't tell what they were for all the dirt. There were a few Roman and also some later ones of the Polish/lith issues 13th-15th century. There were several silver and bronze including a Queen Catherine of Sweden silver . I find the history interesting as well as a thought someone told me of who held these coins and or lost them a simple working person, farmer, soldier, or a person of the nobility.

Nice. I like a little faster, but it's ok because I can skip through. I would be interested in what equipment you use for filming. I don't want to do a TH-cam channel, but I think it would be fun to clean up some coins in finer detail that I find metal detecting.

I watched your video that had 400k+ views. I like your channel and I think you're trying to hard with trying to change the formula on what worked. Keep it simple & you're not the history channel. The history channel is dying because youtube is better. Keep the intro super short, like 5 seconds I should know whats about to happen. No one cares about your personalized intro, it hurts becuase I'm sure you put effort into it, but there's a lot of things you can put effort into that are not effective. "I got this Ancient Egyption coin from an ebay auction and will check to see whats behind the dirt!" Cut into the action.... Also, everything in this world uses the following formula to form addictions, and you're channel at its core is a gambling type channel & viewers get addicted (not in some evil way, just stick with me). This is the formula loop to form addicts: Opportunity -> Unpredictable Rewards -> Repeatability -> Opportunity -> Unpredictable Rewards....... and so on. Each video is one of these cycles and if your videos follow the cycle people will go look into your other videos and click on them to continue the cycle. Another note, if you do want to talk about history then that's fine, but don't introduce large concepts at the start of a video. You want to start with emotion, then slowly work into a large concept so the viewer can feel like they learned something, then back down to emotion at the end of the video... Hopefully this helps you understand why you're one video did so well and these once you worked harder on have not performed as well. Use this knowledge for good and not evil, or just think I'm a dumb guy on the internet and you do you. ***Side note. you're probably reading this because you saw a notification that promised you "Opportunity" ... You're reading it because of the "Unpredictable Reward" of what another human might provide in a comment. And I'm sure you'll read other comments because that is the "Repeatability". This formula is literally everywhere..***
