      Some of the old timers in my area do big hound drives on coyotes. Some drives they’d get 40-50. I’ve been angling for an invite to one but hasn’t happened yet lol

    Fun times! Our volunteer Tarelton fire dept. would put on coyote drives for several years. Unfortunately farm lands got sold and housing developments built and they had to stop doing them. Video brought back lots of fun memories.

    You could try some card shooting chokes for more range. The center of the shot pattern has all the killing power at extreme ranges, learned this at long clay bird shooting matches where seventy-five or eighty yard shots were normal.

    • @willhorting5317
      @willhorting5317 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's good suggestions. On top of that, there are at least three reasons for shot coyotes getting away. (Based on my own experience with shooting coyotes with a shotgun over five decades.)....#1) As you pointed out, distance; #2) The fact that their shot size is being limited to no larger than #4 birdshot. Even at 35-40 yds, that small size of pellets often lacks the ability to get the penetration needed for a lethal wound.; #3) Many hunters who are accustomed to using a shotgun (on a consistent basis) to take coyotes, fail to properly lead the target. Especially at longer distances. This ends up with the core of the shot string either hitting the coyote in it's rear, or missing all together behind the coyote. Just my experienced opinion.😎
