I think it's a temporary solution
As after removal of one led , current through each led get increased and hence voltage/electrical pressure also increased so there may further damage of another led.

You can also check for fused led by looking at all led top if it's string is broken then it is fused and video method only help you if only one led is fused

Removing faulty diode is a short term solution, it will put extra load on remaining LEDs. repair is to replace SMDs.

I think the circuit is constant current type. So shorting LEDs will have no problem as the same current will flow through them as it was flowing before.
