- Here we cover information about Scaling on a basic level. This is an important feature of the SCS games that allows it to be played on less than desirable PCs.
Note these tests were completed on an AMD 5600X processor, an EVGA nvidia RTX 3070, with 32GB of RAM and an M.2 solid state drive.
100% scaling was 246fps in the latest vanilla truck the #InternationalLT, and at 400% scaling was 109fps. This is with very few mods, and none in traffic or used in the video. Add some mods in there with traffic trailers and upgraded textures and you are well on your way to stuttering video.

First thing is set the game to the absolute lowest preset. In the NVIDIA Control Panel reset everything to default EXCEPT maximum framerate which should be at 60FPS and also set the power management mode to Prefer Maximum Performance...these are the only 2 things you need to play with...
I also set my in-game refresh rate to 59hz (I'm using a 60hz 1080P monitor) it seems to stabilize the 60FPS setting better. Try bumping up the scaling until you get stutters...I'm able to play at 300% scaling on a Vanilla profile with my RTX2070 Max-Q card on my Lenovo gaming laptop with 60 FPS steady across the map.

I have a 3060 and it runs smooth. I also got the game after the 1.50 update so maybe a fresh install would help.
3080 12g here. I'm with a fresh install. No mods, just stock game with 200% scaling (2560x1440 Monitor).. still getting A LOT of stuttering through urban areas. Really, really annoying and thinking about stop playing bcause of this.. this is sad

@@Halffastgaming I use 2 times Samsung 980 pro 2TB (M2-NVME) and every 4 sec a huge latensy spike when that hapens my screen wil freeze 1 sec.
My GPU is a Asus Strix 4090 OC model.
Stil testing lots of things and setings.

Hi with this knew update with the 1,51 out. I have a 3080 graphics card and when I go in game when driving down the free way or a road the un coming traffic trucks flicker what would that be causing ?

Since 1.50 my game started to lag and stutter. I use both vanilla truck and trailer and paid mods. When I use vanilla truck by using minimal and no mods I get the same experience. I turned the scaling down and still no improvements.
This is because of the new game requirements for mods to be packed with an SCS created hashfs tool. I have yet to use it, but you will see improvements once people start cutting down their mod sizes and using the tool.

Tried everything about graphic 3d settings, hardware accelerated gpu scheduling off, disabling full screen optimization, then steam notification off, disabling animated avatars on steam... but in the end playing "steam-offline" actually helps in my ets2 and ats!

I have an RTX 3050 laptop and it hasn’t fixed the problems I get with Jagged edges. I run ATS on 1080p does that mean I need 100% scaling?

my game is pretty colorful although my my monitor has " scenery mode " which makes most games a lot more vivid so I dunno

My stutering is also in the menu of the game. MSI Afterburner shows the same latency peek every 4 sec when it happens my truck is standing stil 1 sec and moves on again missing a few frames

This was super informative! I have approximately 248 mods and maps in 4k at 144 fps. So I am asking my 3090 do a rediculous amount of stuff. I only have a little bit of stutter every once in awhile but it's still immersion breaking.
I would also add anyone from 2070 rtx and up should move their modded game to 2.5 NVMe pci express slot.. load times are so much faster
This actually helps quite a bit. This may explain my stuttering. I have a billboard replacement mod in and I am constantly scaling to 400. I'm going to apply this method and see if it helps.

mine game comes in good and itll start to lag
I’m running an i5 13600k with a 4070ti, 32mb ddr4 and in both 4k and 1440p it’s butter smooth with not a hint of stutter or lag. I’m using Gsync also.
What are your graphic settings? Also what types of mods are you using
@@UlyssesSGrant-lg8lh 400% scaling, everything on ultra that can be and everything that can’t be is on high. Mods are real billboards companies, realistic roads, brutal weather & Graphics.
actually there is another way that I have used to boost fps significantly, reduce the visibility or draw distance map ,while in the cabin truck, it worked 💯
Scaling does some of it but there are other things you can do to help.
Launch settings can be added by going to steam, right-clicking on American Truck Simulator, you will see properties. Then you should see a blank text input box,
this is where the launch settings go. There is different variations of launch settings so let's go with these.
(PLEASE SELECT THE ONE FOR YOUR RAM AND COPY AND PASTE INTO THE EMPTY TEXT BOX, SEE PHOTO FOR EXAMPLE)

8GB RAM:

Depending on your PC specs copy and paste the line that matches your memory specs on the left.
My scaling was already at 125%, but I had to change the resolution from 1690, to 1440 and my game is running smoothly and doesn’t stutter then crash after 15 minutes into the game like it use to! Thank you for the info!
So by me using a hdmi to a 4K tv will it be best to run 400? Or can I scale down . This pc runs smooth at 400 but health wise in term of the pc will I get the same output if I drop the scale?
It's up to you. If you don't see frame drops, then don't worry about it.
Running on a 4k tv is extremely resource intensive. As your gpu has to scale everything to the size of the tv itself compared to say a 27’ monitor. 4k monitor and 4k tvs will run differently. Experiment around with settings.
I have an Acer aspire 3 it usually runs the game good but I've noticed the gameplay feels worse and more stuttering now what settings do you recommend? I'm okay with sacrificing graphic for fps but I still like some graphics.
Depends on the number of mods, is the PC overheating? Has it been cleaned (blown out) recently?
@@Halffastgaming I just hit the fanwith a compressed air can the other day but I might need to take the bottom out and manually clean the fan. Also I do have alot of mods that I don't use
That would explain why some content creators games would crash when they would enter a large city when they were streaming. Their videos looked great but they crashed in big cities! Couldn't handle the rendering.

I stopped using modded trucks. Every other update breaks them, almost seems intentional.✌
Wait with the updates until the compatible version of the mod comes out... Playing with the stock trucks is painful.

Well yeah updates breaks game as new features are being added and removed. Something that worked last update may not work in the next one. Thats the risk of modding a game theres no intention you paranoid scum.
Awesome video man I'm Newby to pc stuff I didn't realize my scalein was at 300. Fps was bad in towns. Dropped it down to 200 wow.fps is great. U explained this very well ty. All my stuff is molded. Now getting over 100 fps

Not really. Increase the distance or get a better video card in order to do so.

@@fdiskformat5049 Open the "Config.cfg" file using notepad (the file is located in the "My Documents"/"American Truck Simulator" folder) and in the following lines, instead of "1" by default, set the value from "5" to "10" - "uset g_lod_factor_pedestrian"; "uset g_lod_factor_parked" and "uset g_lod_factor_traffic".
I need help so I'm driving at night it like lagging and when turn my headlights off it stops do anybody now how I fix this please?
I deletet the CONFIG.CFG file and the lag spikes are gone !!!!!
BTW i use a Asus Strix 4090 OC card i am running only 1 mod its to get the Scania truck in to ATS.

This has completely solved my problems. Moving in slow-mo every other second was the most annoying thing ever, I only started happening a few days ago too.

The stuttering only occurs on certain parts of the map mainly in the cities. I get smooth frames while driving on rural roads/between cities but when I drive through the newer cities (Like Montana, Wyoming, reworked California cities) the game will stutter/freeze for 2-3 seconds before returning to normal. I’ve already tried disabling in-game v sync, adjusted the scaling from ranges of 100-200%, lowering the other graphic settings medium to low, and enabling the control panel v sync. I’ve also tried updating my drivers, but it didn’t really make that much of a difference. I only run C2C, Midwest expansion and a couple of sound mods.
That's normal as I explained. Is the game installed on an nvme SSD or HDD?

Windows swaps your RAM so your OS doesn't crash, and that's really the core of the problem, if you want to fix it, you will have to downgrade to ATS 1.38 where everything runs smoother and lighter
I have a weird problem i have 130 fps on 400% and it works fine but when I start moving the game has like micro stutters but keep the same fps
This could be the game pulling information from your hard drive. Is it a disk drive or an SSD or m.2 drive?

My game fps is capped which means frame time should be consistent but no there are still frametime spikes despite solid fps can't figure it out
can someone help my game feels like it’s in slow motion and all the cars are like moving at 40mph but looks like they are doing 5 😂 and the blinkers on my truck take like 2 mins to blink back and forth
Sounds like a graphics issue. How many frames are you getting? Environmental mods?

Great explanation. Everytime they release a new version I feel I have to scale down, so instead I have reduced the mirror distance in the config file, and toggled off the mirror in the normal view. I will probably need to upgrade my laptop eventually....
I don't seem to understand! I Have a 3060TI with an I5-10400F and 32G of ram yet even with 100% scaling and 100% resolution settings i seem to only get 40-45 FPS in city and lots of spike drops driving around HWY's locked at 144 than dipping to 80-90 I don't wanna drop down to medium or low quality since i think my PC should be able to run this on High or Ultra.
Do you have any ideas on what would cause this FPS stutter in game? (No issues with any other game)
This game is also installed on a Sabrient rocket 4.0 M2. (I also don't run ANY mods on this game)
What is 100% resolution? 1080p? 4k?
@@Halffastgaming 1920x1080 144 HZ No HDR! Even dropping settings to medium with SMAA and SSAO off and anisotropic filtering all the way down (Currently testing) i still get 45-75 FPS sitting in a gas station

@@Halffastgaming No sir! It's running roughly 1900-2000 MHZ for GPU Clock and memory clock is 7200 MHZ GPU Utilization is only from 40-60% and CPU only 10-25%

No idea other than you have a light mod or a texture replacement mod or a visual enhancement mod that is affecting it.
I can run in 4k with that on a 3070 and get 60fps
The issue that im having is the roads don't have any textures. In my setting, I have very thing on low or disable. I only have a few things that I have on medium or high, scaling 100%, mirrors resolution & distance is medium. Texture quality is high.
I’ve spent a lot of time getting my 3070ti card to be optimized the best way possible with ats. And what I had to do to play this game maxed with mods on 4K was underclock the gpu with msi. This is such a cpu hungry game I was getting a bottleneck Everytime. I sit comfortably at now at 80 to 90fps. Lowest in dense cities-60 highest In country-110.

Sometimes in city FPS drops, game stuttering, freeze and crash. No matter what the setting is buildings and objects cant load smooth and ATS died.

@@Halffastgaming Yes, I saw a video from a russian guy, where he explains a little about ERRORS and WARNINGS in text, so now I'm trying to understand what's wrong. So far, I realized that priority is also important for stability and correct rendering of models and textures in game. I'm working on it.
@@WithoutNumbers I have the same issue for Montana DLC. I can't play it smoothly because of stuttering and lagging especially in city areas.
@@ceyhunm.5477 It seems to me that this may be due to an outdated engine that doesn't meet today's standards and proper compatibility with Win10 OS updates. And I'm more than sure that a Remake for example on UE5 wouldn't have such problems with more detailed objects and a larger scale of game world.
Well yeah its because your computer more information when u go into a city? Idk seems like common sense more assets are in the cities so more is needed from the computer itself.

Depends on your system. I run at 100 scaling everywhere on a 3070 in 4k.

Yeah, this helped my issue a bit more. First Person would look slowmo issue and it seemed to be slower than in a 3rd person camera angle.

i have idea, just modify AI model cars or truck, make the inside of the interior be low poly for AI trucks and cars,, so only your truck or cars will be HD , that's will help decrease stuttering when use 400 scaling
@JahidHasan-zf5pi you need mod traffic cars, then export all traffic models, import to blender, make all the models low poly, then export again,
@JahidHasan-zf5pi but I haven't tried it yet, to get around fps drops I usually just reduce the map visibility, it's called farplane, the script is in the interior cabin of every truck model

Hello, I repeated your video several times to be able to understand better, but even so I have a doubt, what would be the recommended scaling to play in 1080p? these are my components: Ryzen 3300X CPU, Radeon RX 5500XT 4GB GPU, 16 GM RAM.
I'm asking you this question because I've tried dozens of settings to make the game flow well and look good too, and it's frustrating...
This game is very strange because I have played much more demanding titles like Forza Horizon 5 on high, Warzone on medium, Doom Eternal on high and many more, and all of them at 60 FPS.
I would appreciate your knowledge...
The trouble is the age of the game engine, and your equipment.
With those components I would stick to 100-125% scaling, though that still will give you some stutter. The other issue is the game loads the information to video in "chunks" and cities are a large "chunk" when you come to them. This causes a large load to be placed on the CPU, Hard Drive, RAM and Video card. Being that your system is more towards "entry level" 100% scaling is going to be best, and if you do have some mods that use high resolution textures, you may have to go under 100 scaling.

Depends on where you live. Fanatec doesn't have great support in the US, though I've heard the products are good. Thrustmaster and Logitech are good.

What’s weird is every time I put my scaling lower then 200 I get a rubber band effect so I put on 200 n keep it there n also in my config I put buffer scale 2.2 strange the rubber band effect is gone strange n lag gone even in cities it’s stop lag I teak the hell out this games for months

@@TheHbgamers01 yes In config file u can rais buffer scale by default its 1.0 but when I raise mine to 2.2 it looks better n surprisingly runs smooth even in cites I get big difference in vr
